Forney Easy Weld 140 MP - 2 Year Review - Best Entry Level Welder?

Looking for the best entry level welder? The best multi process welder on a budget? I can't say for sure if this is the best welder for either of those categories but I can tell you its a solid option to consider. The Forney 140MP has decent duty cycle ratings, and includes what you need for all processes except for TIG welding. You will need to also pick up a tank for any gas shielded welding processes. Its a great welder to start with and I definitely like having it around for a variety of projects. Consider picking it up if you're looking at this price range. It could be the best welder for the money.

I myself had just bought a plasma cutter , Amico cut 30 for 200 bucks off Amazon. Knew nothing about plasma cutters . But to was tired of angle grinder cutting. And you were informative. I’ve been using a titanium flex 125 for about 3 years and thought it’s time to get into mig gas welding. I came across your video and thought this might be the best machine for me. I put it in my Amazon shopping cart this afternoon it was priced at $470 this evening I went to checkout and the price dropped to $420 so I pulled the trigger. And by the way I did some research and found that these machines are made in Italy not china. Thanks for the video 👍👏

Id go for the Titanium 200 but I just don’t have 220 votes so for a 110v machine I think this is a really good option!

Really comprehensive and fair assessment of this machine. I've had mine for about 7 months. No issues with it and it has been working flawlessly. Only real snag is that Forney doesn't sell direct to end users here in Canada. Found that out trying to get a drive roller for 023 solid wire. There is a Forney office in Regina but it is still a pain trying to order and ship parts. Turns out that since the welder is an up market Chinese model, there are actually quite a few machines that use the same wire feed. Turns out Princess Auto's, Pro Point series welders use the same wire feed. Picked up an 023 roller from them that fits the Forney perfectly. Been welding some insanely thin material since. It really is an awesome machine.

I am not suprised to hear that, and ya I actually have another machine with was seems like an exact copy of the wire drive mechanism so I bet you'd have some luck. I do like their 110v plasma cutter but I want the capability to cut thicker steel someday when I get 220v so I went with an AMICO which has been pretty good!

I believe Forney is trying to move their production back in the states, with some items already being assemble in Fort Collins CO.

I agree if I buy this model it will be my fourth welding machine this year 1- vevor multi process machine 2- Amico 200 amp dual voltage stick welder 3- Eastwood 135 amp mig w/ bottle, regulator and cart. And maybe this model will see if it’s still available

Thanks for the review! This machine looks good for around the house and in the garage stuff. Two questions. Specs say, that it is good up to 1/4 steel. Have you ever tried 3/8 with it? If yes, what was the results? Do you know anyone who converted it to aluminum spool gun and welded aluminum with it? It can be done 😉

What up, Derek. Only speaking flux core, this has a leg up on the fc90 with the 10lbs spools. Buying little spools get's pricey. I also like the rolling housing being aluminum as opposed to century's plastic housing. I was looking into multi-process welders a little bit ago, but not this one though. I was looking at the lotos, it's a stick/tig/plasma cutter...but I was kinda turned off by some reviews of it being a jack of all trades/masters of none. Glad to hear this one is legit.

Well I would probably describe this one to be right there in the same ball park of jack of all trades... It's not a pro level unit for sure. Good in the garage at home for sure.

Ive owned this welder for almost 1 and a half years and I'm a little embarrassed I haven't used it yet. That being said I haven't had a place to work on anything since we've moved 7 years ago. I now have poles and the bottom framed of a 32x48 shop in the ground and plan to put it to work and throw out my old century with 4 settings or for a short time make my boy try to make some horrible welds with it 😅 like I've done in the past

I've never tried welding ever. A bolt on my car stripped out and my dad suggested getting a welder since it world be near the same price to weld a nut on the bolt that it would cost to have it serviced. I ordered this one. I'm hopping it all goes will after a little practice.

Good luck! I have heard of the method before. Just make sure you watch videos on how to do it. Mainly I would suggest disconnecting the battery to protect your electrical system. Watch some youtube videos on welding 101 and you should be good to go. Good luck with your car and thanks for watching!

Awesome. Ya tight spaces are going to be the biggest pain in the butt. I’m sure you’ll get it though with a little time and patients. Besides that you’ll end up with a solid welder at the end of it to play with!

This is the hose I use - amzn.to/33o2XS2 it’s a good hose and has lasted about 2-3 years now and it’s one of the cheapest on Amazon with free shipping. For the regulator I bought one from Harbor Freight and it works good. Thanks for watching!

Can you weld flux on even though I know it says it will weld tig mig and stick cause it's a multi process welder my question is Can you convert it to weld flux core wire as well or somehow change the polarities of the positive and negative or it doesn't have that

Yes sir. You change the switch to the wire feed setting. You change the dins plug that feeds electricity to the wire feed welding electrode (MIG gun) to negative and plug the ground clamp into the positive port and you’re good to go with Flux Core.

3/4 definitely not unless you use the method I’ll mention on the 1/2” but it would probably be more frustrating than anything. You’d want a good 220v welder for that I think. 1/2 probably if you Bevel the metal, run multiple passes, and run a hot process like flux core or stick. Even then your never going to get full depth of fusion with the MP140 in one single pass.

Would this be good for stuff like leaf spring hangers, and welding stuff to an alxe like shock mounts ect. All will be under 1/4"

I would use it for that. In fact I have used it for that, repairing a leaf spring hanger. Held as far as I know.

No you cannot weld aluminum with this machine, you're probably going to want to look for an A/C machine.

I don’t know that I want to make those guarantees but my guess is that it would do that. It’s limitation is about 3/16”

It won’t do a full penetration weld with 1/2” steel but you can bevel the metal and run multiple passes. I think it’s limit is about 3/16” maybe 1/4”.

These machines are no longer designed and built in the USA, are completed Chinese, they only put the equipment in boxes in Colorado, mine lasted only 2 weeks, I waste 400 hundred dollars. They advertise: do not return the welder machine, of course, they know that they are selling junk compared with real brands you know what I mean blue and Red brands.

his welder machine is 100% Chinese, the negative clap, stick clamp, and wire gun are Chinese, basically, the complete build is designed in china like others in the market, just check and compare with other Chinese brands. I got one and only lasted a month.
