Update: 4/18/2006, replaced bulb and light unit stopped working after a few days. I will be buying a different UV brand and I will possibly be putting one on my RO unit.

Are you concerned with having the UV light shine into the PEX? PEX, as I understand it, is not UV stable and will degrade over time if exposed to UV.

I Haven't been too concerned about it, but I might buy some copper pipe an put in two pieces for in/out connections.

My Pelican system, in the "Caution" section says 10" of copper on outlet due to thermal expansion. I was also concerned about UV and PEX. I had the plumber put copper on both sides, which is what the tech on the phone said to do.

I agree with the degradation concern -- but it's very handy that you can monitor your UV light in this way.

The bulb has to be replaced once a year so who cares. It takes seconds to replace those pieces of pex. Now go back to thumbing your waste hole you big dummyhead

Thanks for this video! Did this filter heat the water coming out of the faucets? I have heard it said that a 10 gallon tank is sometimes necessary to reduce the hot water produced when water sits in the filter.

Sadly it stopped working and I tried replacement bulb and nothing so I removed it.

So. The filters all are in place between water supply and your hot water heater? And all house feed lines?

Yes, filters are first in line before the rest.

Is your ballast hot to touch around 100 °F

I don't remember my unit being that hot. But sadly it stopped working.

@@IndianaDiy I read somewhere that the ballast is replaceable with ballasts from other uv filter systems, but I don't know any more details than that.

A better way and correct industry way of installation, for preventive maintenance is to have the uv sterilisation unit before your filtration, this preserves any organic growth building up on your filter membranes, in the industry a filter change out for R/O units producing 18 meg ohms water can cost thousands of dollars in filters alone, 👍

FlashTech: do you not mean the UV after* the filter works better? To my knowledge we install after filtration to maximize clarity and thus effect of UV light. This seems especially crucial on well water.

Every RO system and whole house system I have ever seen Has the UV after filters. Because of some filter like GAC filters can hold bacteria in filter Unlike KDF 85 Filters. The best I know.

UV normally installs after filters. Depending on hardness, it may even be necessary to soften water before UV treatment.
