The one scene that always gets to me, is when Forrest begins to ask Jenny if Junior is "like him," and he can't even finish the question without crying. Then the joy he feels when he hears that he's the smartest in his class. As someone with special needs, that breaks my damn heart.

+Mr Out Of Bounds Fuck RT and their pretentious ass scores. Every movie that's pre 70s is automatically above 95% and a movie like knocked up gets 90%. That's not all. Sharknado 2 is nearly fresh. Those 2 movies should'nt cross single digits. Just because they were made to be so good it's bad doesn't mean they should get high scores. IMDb is way better, imo. Sure, it suffers fanboyism issues but their rating are pretty solid. No shit movie like sharknado gets mercy ther which is nice and this movie has 8.7 which it deserves cuz it's a fucking brilliant movie.

I think the real story behind Forrest Gump was Jenny's. Shows how sexual abuse can stick with a person for the rest of their lives.
@Moviefan2k48 жыл бұрын
Victims of such abuse usually end up on either extreme: fear or addiction. Jenny clearly wound up with the latter, but I still think it was done overboard in a lot of places.
@homelesshannah506 жыл бұрын
How is it overboard? Most victims especially women use abuse as a defense mechanism because they assume that everywhere they go they will find the same bullshit that they did when they were little
@mayhem90526 жыл бұрын
Shafed Saghir I agree
@paesitopaez43024 жыл бұрын
I think that was certainly relevant, but the political aspect was kinda stronger imo. Follow the status quo, no questions asked and you'll be rewarded. Rebell and you'll be punished. Jenny was a victim of trauma and had a stronger interest in the harsh realities of the world around her. Forrest had a tough life, but because he did not really see that part of humanity, he was just going with the flow, which is what ultimately sealed his way to success.

That's a sad moment for me too. Another moment I get misty is when, after braving the huge storm and being the lone surviving shrimp ship, Lt. Dan and Forrest are out on the calm ocean after multiple profitable hauls and Dan says to Forrest "You know, I never did thank you for saving my life." and then dives into the water and swims. It was so moving to see a man who was once so filled with hate and piss and vinegar over not dying suddenly at peace with life and living.

+XJawa LordX The look of terror on Hank's face as he asks Jenny if his son is like him, mentally, and the relief when she tells him how smart the boy is is probably one of the best performances from Hanks in a single scene. This one scene, so well acted, puts us in Forest's mind for a moment as we see he knows that he's mentally deficient, and horrified at the thought that he might have passed on it on to his son.. It also adds potency to the movie as a whole on re-watching it. The self awareness of the Forest character, being fully aware that he's in fact not 'normal' mentally but still making his way through life as best he can with the best attitude he can.

I just graduated film school earlier this year, watch countless movies every week but this is honestly the only film that has truly made an impact on my life. For years and years, I was under the impression that if I didn't study at Uni or try and pursue my career as soon as I left school, I would end up at a dead end job that I hate or have no 'adventures' in life. After seeing that Forrest, no matter what age or where he was in life, always had new adventures and new experiences, it made me feel far less stressed and pressured into growing up as quickly as possible and actually made me enjoy life more than I ever had. If a movie can do that, then it's something truly special.

I'm glad people like forest gump, but I really dont see what is so great about this movie. Yes its emotional, yes its heartwarming. But what does it do other than that? After watching forest gump I thought to myself "Aside from tom hank's preformance, and some good cgi, there really isnt anything that this movie does exceptionally well". And I stand by it. There are lots of sentimental movies that are smarter, more human, have better stories. It also annoys me when pople say"oh, it's about how you can do anything if you set your mind to it. Its a strong and beatiful message!" First off we have all heard that so, so many times. And second, It just seems to me that he was always at the right place at the right time, he didn't really conquer any set goal for most of the movie. The ending was sweet, I will give the movie that. Also, I always found this an interesting bit of trivia: Forrest Gump regularly tops the list of "Beloved Conservative Films"; movies that, for one reason or another, Conservative Americans feel represent their ideology, as opposed to the majority, which are sinister "Liberal Films". I remember reading its spot on the list one year just out of curiosity, and the little blurb said: "Forrest may not be the smartest man around, but he's smart enough to avoid the TOXIC values of the 1960's, whereas his love Jenny embraces them, and is destroyed in the process", lol. So strange

Chris, I usually agree with your reviews. Not this one. Here is ten things I hate about this movie 1. The character of Forrest Gump: He is basically a sheep that only does whatever people tell him too. He is never capable of thinking critically. He has no character motivation, no goals, nothing. He just blindly obeys commands and does whatever people tell him to do. Worse than that, he never develops as a character despite being in Vistnam, meeting various presidents, becoming a master class ping-pong player and owning a highly successful shrimp business. 2. Rapid changes in tone: The movie takes so many 180 degree turns in tone throughout the movie that it's hard to tell whether we should laugh or cry at important scenes. 3. The Plot: It's basically spoonfed to the audience with no room for interpretation 4. The catchphrases: They are extremely nepotent and essentially mean nothing. I mean seriously, what the fuck does "Stupid is, what stupid does" mean 5. The Comedy: Almost every joke in the entire film revolves around the stupid main character being forced into some historically significant event, and the stupid motherfucker acting stupid because the movie wants to constantly remind us how stupid Gump is. 6.Vietnam: The screenplay glamourises one of the most brutal and pointless wars in American history, and writes everyone who opposes the pointless brutal war as savages. 7. The stereotypes: Almost everyone in the movie is a one-dimensional stereotype except Jenn-eh, and don't worry I'll be talking about her in a little bit 8. Jenn-eh: Souless, gold-digging, whore that we are supposed to care about. 9. Product Placement: Seriously, I have seen better product placement in fucking Transformers 10. Nostalgia, and Emotional Appeals: It doesn't inhance the movie whatsoever. It's more of a distraction. Good things: Acting,Special Effects, Liutenant Dan (only well-written character in the movie), and score. If you want to challenge me, go ahead, just don't expect to win.

@kyleknott724310 жыл бұрын
Everyone needs to shut the fuck up with the overrated shit. Every time a good movie comes out that a majority of people enjoy, someone has to call it overrated. If you like something for your own personal reasons, then it's not conforming. By definition that is not what conforming is. It doesn't matter if a lot of other people like it too. If you enjoy it, enjoy it then. Quit trying to get attention by always being opposite of the popular opinion.
