the florida panther. being in kansas we dont see much "big" predators. but out in elk city and independence with uncle and grandparents we had a big cat taking farm animals. neighbors knew the family hunted and wanted us to keep an eye out and sadly we did wind up getting her after she was going after neighbors wild stock

I saw a Florida panther a few years ago. I was driving at night on route 41 headed to Miami. I saw was a large black thing in the road as I got closer I realized it was a baby cat (it was too big to be a domestic cat). I drove my car around it and slammed the breaks. On the shoulder was the Mama panther pacing back and forth making a loud whinny sound. It was amazing to see one so close, but sad because she was morning the loss of her baby. My favorite Florida animal is the Gopher Tortoise, I live on an acre in North Florida and have two tortoises calling my yard home. It is the best feeling knowing these tortoises are safe with me.

I've always been in favor of zoos for exactly the reason that Forest talks about. In a perfect world, these animals do belong in the wild but because they are so misunderstood, we need places that keep them responsibly like Busch Wildlife Sanctuary to educate the general public about how amazing and worth protecting they are! This looks like an amazing place, and the next time I'm in Florida I'm going to make a point to visit.

I live in the suburb of a large city and several yeqrs ago a coyote would come visit me just to "hang out". Often when I returned home in the evening, when I parked my car she would pop up out of the bushes and be sitting in the headlights. I got concerned for her well-being... and the well-being of neighborhood lets... because of her lack of fear of people. Much as I tried to discourage her, she would come sit nearby and sometimes even nod off. She was young and probably just leaving her family to strike out on her own. Sometimes she was silly. One day she found a tennis ball and was tossing it around playing fetch by herself. Another time all I could see of her was four paws sticking up out of tall grass. She had made herself a nice, shady bed and was fast asleep. After two or three months of nearly daily visits, she stopped coming around. I was hopeful that she had wandered off into the nearby hills and was living a proper coyote life.

I do think that usually coyotes get a bad rap as well but I must say some 12 or so years ago I went coyote hunting with a group of people.(Pause there for a moment so I can give some background.) There was an overpopulation of coyotes in the area. They were so bold when we had fires they would pace just around the firelight sometimes as many as a dozen or even more. Also they were extremely large for coyotes with one in particular having footprints as large or larger than our Newfie cross. I'm inclined to believe they were coy-wolves or even just wolves but the ones I saw in daylight always looked like coyotes. Anyway they were overpopulated and eating local livestock and the deer population was plummetting. This was in the Midwest btw. So we go hunting one winter evening out in a 300 acre field surrounded by woods on two sides. There's maybe 8-10 of us. 4-5 with guns, 2 with walkies and calls and 2 with massive lights. I was holding one of the spotlights. We split into two groups sitting a ways apart sitting back to back to cover both wooded areas. Taking turns calling. We saw nothing. We gave up and headed back. I'd never been hunting coyotes before. It was a very crisp winter night and we walked around a mile from the house to the middle of the field. I was wearing my boyfriend's boots because I forgot my own. I doubled the socks trying to help them fit better. They didn't. On the way back I would feel the blisters on top of blisters. I also began to have an asthma attack brought on by the bitter cold air. As we walked I fell further behind the main group and then behind everyone. I was gasping and just trying to make it back for my inhaler. I had a funny feeling and shined the woods closest to me. I saw no less than 10 pairs of eyes. Following me. They were hunting me. I was scared. I began to wonder if they'd attack and kill me or would they wait for me to die from asthma. I knew in that moment I was weak. Injured and struggling to breathe. Ahead of me I heard my boyfriend ask where I was and a friend of mine asked too. They turned and saw me and came running back. I told them what I saw between deep breaths. They rushed me to the house for my inhaler. My heels took probably two months to fully heal. My inhaler worked. I've never been coyote hunting again. I don't underestimate coyotes. I don't fear them but I do respect them. When you have something growling at you from the firelight and then you become the hunted it gives you a different perspective.

I never realized how endangered aligators were thats awesome how conservation has helped them thrive now. I knew the saltwater crocodiles here in australia were in a similar situation in the 80s and now the population is through the roof.

I live in an area where my backyard is right against a Mountain Preserve in AZ. Road Runners, Bobcats, Foxes, Coyotes, and rattlesnakes, find their way into my backyard, and when any of those things see me or hear me they run, they want nothing to do with me. If I saw a fox approaching me and he or she wasn’t afraid I would instantly think rabies. I know how this things react and behave, and when they don’t act the way I have grown up my entire life seeing them behave, it sends alarm bells in my head.

I live in Charleston SC. You are wrong about coyotes, they evolved here and run in packs, bigger here because i believe they mixed with wild dogs. My friend and I got attacked by a pack. They are absolutely dangerous here. There is a pack of about 15 that take down cows across the street from me and you absolutely have to be careful here. Bobcats are common but no threat, they tend to stay away from humans

I was lucky enough to see a wild florida panther about 20 years ago. I fixed HVAC and was out in middle of nowhere and I turned around to talk to customer and it was on the wood line about 30 yards away. I got excited and said look at that. the customer tried to convince me it was a bobcat but I knew better. I think he knew it lived around there and was trying to protect it which I think is pretty awesome.

As a kid, i used to walk cornfields looking for animal tracks and ditched deer carcasses from poachers. I was a pretty small kid and was followed by a coyote for more than a mile. It made me fear and hate coyotes for the rest of my life.

I'd love to hear your thoughts in a video on the Eastern Coyote here in Nova Scotia, Canada . They have a lineage coming from interbreeding with the wolves that used to be here which gives them an interesting history in my opinion, they're such a unique variety of coyote and an absolutely gorgeous animal, it breaks my heart because so much of my provinces attitude towards them is to kill, so few people here are interested in conservation, they're seen as a dangerous pest that every hunter around seems gung ho to eradicate.

My wife was staying at her grandma’s condo in south Florida, and was sitting in the living room. The front door was open (screen door closed) and a large Florida panther walked right up to the door, sat for a second, and then took off. Her grandma was doing laundry down the street and walked back in the house just minutes after the panther left. It moved so silently however, that had my wife not seen it, the cat would never have been discovered. Panthers are so stealthy that they move all around d human habitation and are nearly invisible.
