I did the mod that you posted in the video, I did however change it up a bit I just spliced the wires then shrink wrapped them. worked great as you posted in your video on my 2003 Yamaha Zuma 50cc (American) Works great! looks great! thanks!

Those connectors are female quick disconnect terminals. Dont use the fully insulated type because you have to use a flat head screwdriver to widen them because the headlight male end is too wide for standard female quick disconnects. Mod worked. Thanks for the video

Me too and I want to change it back and it was done by the previous owner. I hope it’s an easy fix and all I have to do is switch the wires and not a kit mod and the original wires missing. This is probably why Yamaha didn’t make the duo headlights standard bc of the battery drain.

I'm pretty sure that you can damage the light controller module if you do this. Basically this doubles the current draw from the generator and light controller???

what I did is push the switch that switches these from high to low beam so it was stiffer and if you balance it in the middle they're both on and if u don't want to drain the battery just switch it to either one no mod needed
@abelalfaro41158 жыл бұрын
Open up where the switch is mounted and tighten the screws that are holding the circuit in place once tighten they push the switch further out and make it tougher to push up and down

bws 50s dont use the battery for head lights. uses the charging system only. why the lights die when the engine stalls
@jacknjill30008 ай бұрын
Yeah but even if uses the charging system, your battery that normally being charged when running is not bc it’s running the 2 headlights. It’s like a car alternator that’s not recharging the battery and eventually your battery dies when it needs to be charged or recharged when running.
@abelalfaro41158 ай бұрын
@jacknjill3000 never had a battery issue doing it the way I said and I had the Zuma 50 for over 5 years before it was stolen and never had that issue doing a dual headlight run

Watching this in 2017 after extensive researching on why my 2012 125 dies on me all the time... finally I figured it out. Bought my bike used with the dual headlight mod already installed and about once a week it wouldn't start - I kept having to switch out batteries and charging them. I also took it to a repair shop twice and they couldn't figure out why it wasn't starting. I'm now 99% sure this is whats wrong with my ped, so I wouldn't recommend doing this unless you're able to find lights that use less battery usage.

Yeah and my duo headlights I figured out drains my battery and I bought my scooter used also. I went through 4 batteries in a years time and I’ve had Yamaha scooters before and now figured out it was bc of the Mod. I want to change it back and I hope it’s an easy fix and I hope I don’t need the old wires harness. Ppl. doing this should warn ppl. on the battery drain bc it’s not worth it. I think Yamaha would’ve made the duo headlights if there wouldn’t be a battery issue. I’d pick function over looks and before all my scooters had a kick start as backup, but these don’t come with a kick start. Meaning if your battery dies, you’re stuck.

Hi, there. You know I recently did the dual headlights setting and after two weeks my battery ran out. I was left stranded. I called the mechanic who did the job and he said that didn't understand why all this. Actually, he noticed that the two lights were too bright when done with the job. I replaced the battery and put a brand new one and it happened the same thing. Now, my big dilema is what should I do. Question: The sets of cable you adapted the two lights with did you buy them from yamaha store or is it an over-the-counter accessory? Thank you I need my scooter badly; otherwise, I will have to put everything back to its original version and forget about it. Please help me in this. I have the same issue with battery drain and buying new batteries. I got mines already mod and finally figured out it the headlights draining the battery. I’ve had many Yamaha scooter and a new battery would last me like 2 years and with this one only like 2-3 months, So I want to change it back to single headlights and why I’m watching this video. I hope it’s easy and not a kit installed and the old wires replaced. I think since everyone complains about the single headlights, if the battery could handle the duo headlights, Yamaha would’ve have made them with duo headlights. So bc they didn’t, there was a reason for it and ppl. should have thought before changing that it would drain the battery. Function is more important than looks. Plus the other Uamaha scooters I’ve had all had a kick start for back up and this model doesn’t, meaning if your battery dies, you’re stuck pushing back home.

I’m watching to undo my dial headlights bc it wears down my battery, I’m the second owner and don’t have any old parts. Meaning if the old wiring was taken out, I might need them and no longer have. I don’t use my scooter often and after like 3-4 mjntys, my battery goes out or runs out and I suspect it’s bc of the dual headlights.
@jacknjill30008 ай бұрын
I think Yamaha made the Zuma with one headlight bc the battery won’t support 2 headlights. I’m about to reverse it and go back to one headlight bc of the battery drain and gone through 3 batteries in a year and it’s a pain in the ass.

I did it on a 2012 Zuma and my battery kept running down and finally died and I only had 567 miles on the bike. I took the dual light harness off and replaced it with the old harness and a new battery... If I find some LED light that don't draw that much I may put the dual harness back on... It does look cool with both headlights on... but I say stay away from this or be prepared to have to trickle charge your battery.
@ivanflorentino78016 жыл бұрын
Robert Deloyd I had my neighbor (who is a mechanic and knows around motorcycles) did the same thing, but instead he just “tapped” the wirings on both headlights together. I thought the battery will die on me after a few days but it’s been a month now and it’s still good. I have Zuma 2015 btw
@jacknjill30008 ай бұрын
I have duo headlights mode on mines and it was already done by the previous owner. My battery runs out about 3-4 months and I don’t use often and only once a week. I figured it was bc of the duo headlights and now want to put back to normal and not worth the battery hassle. I’ve had many Yamaha scooters in the past and the battery would last me about 2 years and this is ridiculous and not worth the looks and hassle. Oh and the others scooters had a kick start and this model doesn’t for back up. So before I start taking thing apart, I probably need to get the OEM wires and I assume they put in a lot. If yamaha after all the complaints on the one headlight look after all these years, if it was that simple, the would’ve changed it to duo headlights a long time ago. But they didn’t bc of the battery issue it would cause. But ppl. love to change the original design and think it’s simple, but don’t realize they’d run into other problems, like battery issues.

You could do the mod as shown and not connect the low beam wire which you can determine by trial and error. Just tape up the unused connector so it doesn't short out.

DON'T DO THAT! i just watched you for a few seconds,but don´t do it; your generator is not made to feed 2 bulbs; only one at a time; if you insist,you shd use those damm leds(i hate to reccomend leds!),they consume less; if you use 2 incandescent bulbs: 1---if you have a DC system you´ll have to get "towed in",S O O N,the battery will run down;(monitor it with a voltmeter!). 2 ---if you have an AC cdi,the bike will continue running,but you ( may) burn the lighting windings on the stator Best (and legal) way is to leave exactly one bulb at a time.

I don't recommend this at all. I have a 2012 Zuma 50F. I had this done to my bike when it was brand new. 4 years later in 2016 I had starting issues at 3000 miles. Long story short, after extensive investigations costing hundreds $$$$ it was found to be the harness causing excessive drain on the battery. My advice, don't do it
