I found this interview to be very insightful for getting a better idea of who Dawn Downs is and what she stands for. I truly believe she wants to work towards a balanced justice system and finding a middle ground between over lienient and overly harsh prison sentences. Her explanation for running unaffiliated seemed honest and relatable, and as a democrat I hope others don't just dismiss her for previously being registered as a republican!

My question for Dawn would be: if the changes made to the current system (re: bodycams causing too much work, crimes becoming misdemeanors etc) aren't working, then why are you trying to reinstate old strategies that have proven to disenfranchise certain people, mainly minorities. I found the bodycam comment kind of offensive honestly. How is being held accountable too much work? I agree that a lot of crime that was turned into misdemeanors has not worked out at all, but then how would you solve the prison overpopulation problem that it was trying to solve? Locking people up for non-violent crimes clearly wasn't a good solution, misdemeanors weren't a solution, so what is?
