Quick Question: On Number 6, the value for C is -2 and when you plugged in the values for A, B, and C you put positive 2 rather than -2. Was there a reason for that, that I am not understanding? P.S. Thank you so much for the video. It helped tremendously!

I sure wish I would have found your videos about 5 weeks ago, when I got stuck taking an Algebra class for college and I have onky had 5 weeks to do it in. I am lousey in math and have been banging my hesd against the wall trying to get through it in time. My math class finishes today at noon, and I have jyst now found your site. I actually understood what steps I was to follow and everything. You made it seem so easy. I have only gad 1 othrr teacher in math that could explain it to me , like you did, and a light bulb go off in my head, like " no I understand". I tried several times to see the teacher yhis semester, because my class is online, but whenever I went to see her, she wasn' t there. My teacher never showed me this useful formula h=-b/2a and k=f(h). I had to go long process to get to standard form y=a(x-h)2-k. and I don't even think she knows this useful trick but I will let her know. I'm sure she will like it and let future students know it.

You're the best! I've been doing an online class with no teacher so I've adopted you....super helpful, better than the textbook by far. BUT, on this transformation of the functions, to find the vertex, I understand the (h,k) thing and how to find "H" with that formula but confused on how to find "K". Can you help?

This video can be used for functions of this type. The difference is the “a” value is 1 and the “k” value is 0 when using the vertex form of a quadratic function. Therefore, the vertex will always lie on the x-axis and be in the form (h, 0). Hope that helps!

18:08 If I were you, I would not label all my "x" values from "-2" to "2" by a change of "1". I would list them from "-4" to "4" with the change of "2" because your leading coefficient is a fraction and graphing fractions is pretty tricky! In this case, you will get a fraction if you plug in "f(x)" when the "x" is an odd number!

I just watched the discriminate video, and you said when you have a discriminate of zero, you have 1 x intercept and 1 real rational solution. So, here we have a zero discriminant, I hope. So, I am assuming that the x intercept here is 0? So, if that is so, does that mean that all 0 discriminants will be on the x axis? Just touching? I am trying to see how finding discriminants will help me check my work.

Hello Ritesh. The video is correct. For x = 1 → (1 - 2)² - 4 = (-1)² - 4 = 1 - 4 = -3 for y. For x = 3 → (3 - 2)² - 4 = (1)² - 4 = 1 - 4 = -3 for y. I hope that helps! Thanks 4 watching!

+Jay Sprout One useful application for a quadratic function is a projectile or when something is thrown or dropped. The object will generally follow a parabolic path. Therefore, we can predict when and where something lands.
