I remember Hagane in stores, back in the day. Thirty five years ago, I worked at Toys R Us, and I remember we had it. I also recall seeing it on sale at the local EB Games. I think it's so rare because it got poor coverage. I had subscriptions to a couple different gaming magazines, and I don't recall ever reading any reviews for it back in the day. In fact the first review I'd ever seen of it was on KZbin. When I worked at Toys R Us, the games department was my department, and I recall us getting 20 copies. None of them were ever sold. Games that sold poorly would get marked down in price, but products that didn't sell at all simply got returned to the distributor/manufacturer. I remember it had cool box art, but otherwise had no interest in purchasing it because I had nothing to go on like a review, or any recommendations for it.

@ gaming history is something I eat up. I’m a tail end Gen-Xer. Born in 1978, gaming has been as much a part of my life as movies and music. We had an Atari VCS in 1982. I was too young to know how to play it, but I was fascinated by the bloops and bleeps of Pac-Man and Combat. In 1987, for Christmas, I was given a brand new NES Deluxe System. It came with R.O.B. and a Zapper, Gyromite and Duck Hunt. I was the weird kid who never owned Super Mario Bros. Along with the NES, I opened up a gold box with a gold cartridge of The Legend of Zelda. At 9 years old, I was old enough to play and understand. I was captivated. Fast forward to Christmas of 1991, I got a SNES that came with Super Mario World. I also got Final Fight and F-Zero. It was the most incredible thing I had ever seen. Up to that Christmas, I researched everything I could on the SNES, SEGA Genesis, and the TurboGraFX-16. I devoured everything I could about the systems. Back then, there was no internet, so I relied on gaming magazines. I have owned just about all of the major systems at one point or another throughout my life. I am 46 years old and I still just love my gaming. There is really no part of gaming history that I DON’T love, but, if I were forced to choose, I’d say the 90’s are my favorite era of gaming and gaming history. The Console Wars of the 16-Bit era and the transition into the 32-Bit/64-Bit systems is so amazing to me. I love reliving that time period. There are SO MANY great games and innovative ideas from then. It was a time of fierce competition and experimentation. Everyone was trying to 1Up (pun intended) each other and we all benefitted by the creative spirit that was so alive back then. To this day, I still go back and read old gaming magazines and books that cover games. Most of my KZbin videos are about games from the past and on up to the current day. I have all three systems, but my Switch dominates my playtime and my library. 90% of my 260+ Switch games are retro titles in one way or another. Whether they are old games (Nintendo Online systems and games), remasters (Chrono Cross, Marvel Vs. Capcom Arcade Classics Collection), remakes (The Legend of Zelda Link’s Awakening, Ultra Street Fighter II), or retro style games (River City Girls 1+2, Blossom Tales 1 & 2). The old style games of the 90’s are what gaming is all about. That is the age of gaming that perfectly encapsulates everything that was great and magical, and is sorely missing in most games of the modern era.

@@Fortefyre I am definitely going to watch. I cannot wait. Thank you so much. It’s clear that you take gaming as a serious hobby; one that you really devote time and patience to. It’s so nice to see people who are passionate about games. So many people, including many “gamers,” sadly, see video games as a fun distraction from life. I disagree. I believe video games should be elevated to a status equal to the great films of cinema. They are a collaborative effort to explore technology and the creative mind. For me, a game like Chrono Trigger is on par with The Godfather or Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. These creations are more than cartoony characters that we move around on a screen. They are rich in stories with beautiful musical scores to set the mood. They are a reflection of our dreams and our deepest fantasies. We can bring such things to life, and experience them ourselves, through gaming. More than that, titles like Halo and Fortnite are ways we can reach out to connect with others across the globe; in competition, or cooperation. They allow us to connect with one another in a way that no other medium is able to provide. Video games are such an important part of modern culture. They allow us to see the beauty in others and ourselves. We get to be the hero. We get to rob the bank. We get to race the courses of Laguna Seca in a souped up 427 AC Cobra. We get to dance with Hatsune Miku. There’s no end to the possibilities! Thank you for sharing this link. I will be sure to check it out. And thank you for being as passionate about gaming as I am. 😊

About a year and a half ago I was living with my brother with my fiance. He kicked us both out on a whim, literally. She been having many seizures and just got out of that hospital. He gave us 4 hours to leave. He kept most of my video game consoles the only two I had returned with no games minds you are a dream cast. Also, one of the goodies which I wanted the most. The refurbished SNES game console. You need one of these if you don't have it. The way you can tell the difference is that the refurbished by Nintendo ones have a decentary 10 pain job on the console as opposed to the stock gray. This has the newest chipset in it. When the PS1 came out. They had a trade in of your 16-bit consoles. Nintendo made the most of it by adding the newest chipset. It really makes most games run about 15% better! Most people do not know the difference either. If you have a great one get a decentary tan one. I promise you you're not going to be unhappy with that. Since most people don't know the difference. They're typically won't be a price point difference. To make matters worse, he kept my cat! I would have had her 9 years a month after he kicked us out. Unfortunately, even though he said I could take the kitty back. Our health is too poor and our space too small too accommodate the cat. I love her too much to take her away from my brother's house where she has two floors to run around on. It really sucks. Hopefully your brother hasn't taken any of your pets from you. Actually, I can't remember but I thought you said you only had younger sisters. Not sure either way thanks for your help with stuff. I have repros of the Donkey Kong Country, Campus Challenge, and Powerfest carts. The Powerfest cart’s box implies that you got the 10K variant, as it shows that point value for Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball, but when you play it, it’s the million point variant. RetroUSB did a great job with their packaging and manuals, and I was rather sad when they stopped offering the repros.

I also own a repro of Hagane. The funny thing is that even repros may be worth a lot of money as well depending on the quality of the repro. Also, Speed Racer for the SNES does exist on its own. I own a copy of that game and it’s not an expensive game to own, but I do not know if the one version from the Life Fitness Bike is the same as the loose version. The gameplay of Speed Racer is very similar to games like James Bond Jr, etc where it combines platforming stages with race car stages.

it's freakin' sad how Retro Gaming started as a way for people to live out their Nostalgia, but has since devolved into another get rich quick pyramid scheme. for a couple years before shit hit the fan i would watch Pat The NES Punk and his Flea Market Madness series. it was fun watching him collect games and other stuff for pennies on the dollar, but in recent years he has uploaded FMM rarely due to visits to the Flea Market being fulla resellers and generally overpriced games. think Ebay, but the games are all loose and exposed to sunlight. i recommend watching, but only if you want to rage and scream at the world like AVGN does for comedy.
