@@oscarzxn4067 exactly, both Sega Lord X and SNES Drunk show that you be a fan of either Sega or Nintendo and still love games from either company or any console and I loved my N64 even though I was more of a Sega fan at the time but I didn’t buy the Saturn due to it not being as popular as the PlayStation which I had sold to fund a purchase of a VCR when the N64 wrestling games were hitting their stride but I kept my N64 and rode out that generation with it and it was created some truly unforgettable moments for me as a gamer.

I never owned an N64, but I did play the demo stand at the toy store I worked at ..especially once we moved it into the break room! 😝 My fondest memory, though, was during the launch. A man in a Hawaiian shirt came up the escalator eager to purchase the new system. Setting him up with the games, needed and optional accessories, we chatted about our love of video games for about 45 minutes and he was one of the nicest people I had ever met! It was Robin Williams! 😁

MMA/kickboxing modes, none of the No Mercy slowdown, deeper CAW suite, unlockable moves from Revenge and WM2000, customisable logic/AI etc. Revenge is still my personal favourite for the nostalgia but VPW2 is just AKI wrestling perfected. The thing I appreciate the most about this generation of consoles is how they were each genuinely different from each other with their own unique strengths and drawbacks. This made each console worth owning IMO. Though I think Sega gets a little bit of shame for giving up too early and not releasing their JRPG library in the west. I think things could have played out alot different for them if they had done that.

Wow, an N64 Top 10 without Goldeneye is almost unimaginable and probably considered sacrilegious by many in today's toxic online gaming community. It's certainly one of my favourites on the system thanks to the countless hours I spent playing it with friends in multiplayer. But I'm glad you enjoyed the console and its games. And it's good to see a list that's not predictable. Mad props for putting Sin and Punishment on your list, too. You also make a great point about how the game libraries of the systems in that generation, especially the Saturn and N64, complemented each other instead of being essentially the same like in today's gaming world, making them all worth owning for their specific game libraries.

For anyone who loves the AKI-engine pro wrestling games on the N64, I can only heartily recommend the "Virtual Pro Wrestling 2 - freem edition". It's the most developed/expansive version of the AKI developed engine, translated into english, with lots of your favourite and greatest pro wrestlers added to the roster if they weren't already in the base game. On top of that you get a great wrestler creator. Great video! I like the nod to NBA Hangtime, which would be on my top ten. Smash Bros. is not on the list to my surprise, but everyone has they're own taste and hardly anyone was able to play all the best games on the N64 back in the day, as kid, teen or even young adult, you just don't have the money.

If you want to check out some of the more obscure great games on the N64, I suggest both of the Ganbare Goemon games on the platform, Space Station Silicone Valley, Rocket Robot on Wheels, Robotron 64, Mischief Makers, Ogre Battle 64, Blast Corps., the Snowboard Kids games, and Diddy Kong Racing just to name a few. With that being said OOT and mario 64 are 2 of my all time favorite games. So its not that the 64 didnt have it in it to be great, the games just sucked.

@@jacobhayes1305 yeah, like SLX said, their first party titles kept Nintendo afloat throughout the N64, and GameCube eras. The Wii and Switch are fine, but there is a lot of shovelware on both of those consoles

Oh man, the N64 mabey don't have the largest library, but those games that are good/great are indeed GOOD/GREAT! Hard to just pick 10 titles. My 10 picks would then I guess be these titles based on those that I happened to play most by myself, with my lill brother or friends! 1. Diddy Kong Racing 2. Super Mario 64 3. GoldenEye 4. Mario Kart 64 5. Mario Party 3 6. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 7. Super Smash Bros 8. Pokemon Stadium 9. Donkey Kong 64 10. Clayfighter 63 1/3 11. Star Wars: The Shadows of Empire 12. Vigilant 8: 2nd Offense 13. Turok 14. Bomberman 64 15. Yoshi's Story 16. Star Fox 64 17. Mario Party 2 18. F-Zero X 19. Mario Tennis 20. Spider-Man NOTES: Conker's Bad Fur Day would been up here based on N64 games, but I did not play that until many years afterwards as an adult on Rare Replay Collection. Banjo-Kazzooie and Banjo-Tooie is the same case.

Hey, I took that photo of the Babbage's store in the beginning of the video. :) It was taken at the Wilton Mall, NY store. I was an assistant manager at this time. I had just bought a Kodak DC-260 (1.2mp) digital camera and brought it with me to work that day. This would have been from December 1998. The photo is of my friends, Steve K, and Tim M.. Those were the days. I loved working there! Oh, and I took the Zelda standee, PlayStation neon sign, and even the 9" monochrome CRT (used with our register POS), home with me. I still have them today. 😁 Soon after this photo, I left the store to take over management of another Babbage's store in the capital region. I helped ready other stores for the Dreamcast launch, as well as the PS2, and Xbox launches. Some of the best years of my life were at these places. It was a challenging, and sometimes (Black Friday - January 15th) stressful position, but where else are you going to be surrounded by stuff you LOVE, and get paid to chat with customers about video games!? I made a lot of friends from those days, many of which I am still friends with. -Matt

Actually, I took that picture of Babbage's. It was the year Twenty Aught Six and I was on my way home from 2 towns over. I stopped in there to buy an onion to tie to my belt, which was the style at the time. I didn't have any of quarters so I had to pay with nickles and they had pictures of bumblebees on them.

Stellar list. Wrestling games absolutely peaked on the N64, and haven't been worth it since. And I'm glad to know I'm not the only one that thinks Super Mario Kart on the SNES is a turd. I loved the N64 game, and many of the other Kart titles, but the first one is crap.

Loved the N64. First console I ever bought with my own money. Got it at launch and never regretted it. I still have that console and every cart I ever bought for it (and I'm totally picking up the Analogue 3D). My top 10 definitely looks different from yours, though... ;) 1. Ocarina of Time 2. Super Mario 64 3. Star Fox 64 4. GoldenEye 007 5. Banjo Kazooie 6. Jet Force Gemini 7. Resident Evil 2 8. Mischief Makers 9. Rogue Squadron 10. Turok 2 It's definitely hard for me to whittle it down to just ten games, though. Played the hell out of the system, still do on a regular basis. My honorable mentions would be Wave Race, 1080 Snowboarding (still my favorite sports game of all time), Perfect Dark, Ridge Racer 64, Beetle Adventure Racing, and Wipeout 64. Ironically, I can't stand Mario Kart 64. Always felt Diddy Kong Racing was way better for some reason.

I traded in Revenge to pre-order No Mercy, then got a second cheaper copy of Revenge later on because I missed the roster. I still played No Mercy more, can't beat a true character creation, but Revenge always had a place in my rotation. I loved the intro that had the trucker stop in front of Sting, only to say, "What!?" I'm certain that's the same trucker that drove into Raccoon City and got bit, then later nearly ran over Leon and Claire.

while i played, beat and completed Majora's Mask, it is one of my least favorite Zeldas. Time Limits are a pet peeve for me as there are a number of times that i had to return to the first day without making any significant progress. losing items was ultimately what made that infuriating for me, to the point that i'll only ever pick it up again to earn Achievements through the Retro Achievements website.

Had an N64 & a PS1 back then. While the N64 didn't have anywhere near the quantity that the PS1 had, the major releases for it seemed to come out every 4 or 5 months, and the titles always had a very special, magical feel to them that made you happy to own the console. That was also the era where Rareware were at the very peak of their game, which didn't hurt.

Goldeneye and Wave Race 64 would’ve made my top 10 N64 games list that’s for sure as Rare could do no wrong at all on the N64 as well as the usual stamples like Mario 64 and Mario Kart 64 but I would have had pretty much most of the Aki wrestling games in my top 10 with No Mercy leading the pack. That game is a culmination of everything from Wrestlemania 2000, Revenge and World Tour, there really wasn’t anything that could match No Mercy, it hits all the right places, it just felt right and the CAW and customisation was crazy good and with friends along with a couple of buddies, in a battle of who isthe true king of kings, which lead to some unforgettable matches.

This is my favorite generation of gaming. I know later gen consoles will perfect the formulas and will make "better" games, but I do not think that the number of games from this gen which people consider great, and even some GOATs, is coincidence. The innovation the N64, PSX, Saturn, and the rest brought to the table revolutionized the industry. Modern gen consoles are still using the blueprints created by this gen.
