@Jon Kicklighter Its definitely more relaxed. You can eat what you want rather than be restricted due to your drill instructors. I just remember how different the chow hall was at MCT. The amount of Marines in there eating at any given time, the different kinds of foods, etc. Its more laxxed for sure.

I was motor-t as well. Worked in it for one month and for some reason they gave me secondary mos of 8151 security guard. Never applied for it but did 1 1/2 years over seas at a NAS with a TS clearance. Got back to the fleet with 3/13 and back to motor-t with 1 year left on my 3 year active contract. Yea, back in the day you could sign up for 3 years active and 3 inactive reserve. Made E4 in two years.

I was out for almost 4 years in IRR before I decided to go back active 1 more time. Wanted to do a fresh restart and go back to Oki one last time. They gave me a 3 year contract which ended in 2020. Had to stay in quarantine in a barracks room for a month while processing out.

Our son is the oldest of our 9 children and so this is all new for us. That's a great question! I'll have to give her a call tomorrow and pick her brain a little. I would say that her biggest fear was me deploying... A big misconception about the Marine Corps is that everyone, regardless of your MOS will see combat or be put on the front lines... That couldn't be farther from the truth! What up Tony, great video. I just found your channel and this video is 100% accurate. Some things are a little different today than they were 42 years ago when I graduated boot camp at MCRDPI. I was a 0311 (basic rifleman) and I got 30 days leave after boot. Then I reported to Camp Lejeune, NC at Headquarters co. where I was then taken to Camp Geiger right down the road. Back then it was called ITS (infantry training school). If I remember right, it was about 8 weeks long and yes, we spent most of our time out in the field. It was the middle of February and very cold. It sucked. And yes, our instructors thought they were DI's as well. It still wasn't as bad as boot camp. After AIT (advanced infantry training) I remember being in formation out on the road in front of our barracks and Sgt. Harris, one of the instructors was handing out orders for duty stations. Some were already chosen for Marines, and some were volunteer. Myself and 2 other Marines volunteered for Hawaii with the 3rd Marines. I was in 1st Blt. 3rd Marines, 1st Marine Brigade. This was in 1981. The rest is history.

I went through it in 1983, and most my instructors were ex Nam vets, and totally unforgiving,but they are there to help you accomplish your mission of becoming a Marine, just shut the fuck up, listen to what your being told,and do your best to blend in..! I enlisted in the Corps in ‘82 via the delayed entry program and went to boot camp at PI in January of ‘83. Post boot camp and leave, I went to ITS (Infantry Training School) and at the end of ITS was (unbeknownst to me) chosen for the PRP program (Personnel Reliability Program) and by my own choice but with no foreknowledge of options, ended up in Newquay in Cornwall England. I would serve 18 months as a Marine security guard at a Marine barracks. After that tour of duty, only then did I head to the FMF at Lejeune for my training as an 0341 and assignment to an Infantry Battalion within a Weapons Platoon. I served with India Co. 3/4 and the (then) 26th. MAU. In 1986, my Company Commander was Captain John Kelly, now General John Kelly. I’m 58 now and having served in the Corps was one of my proudest moments if not the proudest. I’ve friends and comrades for life and we’d do anything for each other and always have each others backs. If anyone here is thinking about joining, know you will be part of a family for life- and after. As Gunnery Sergeant Hartman said in Full Metal Jacket- “Marines die. That’s what we’re here for. But the Marine Corps lives forever. And that means YOU live forever.”

depends on your unit your duty station could be cherry point , eltoro , 29'palms , la'june , little creek , yuma air , san Diego , Pendleton , Hawaii, Guantanamo bay , Jacksonville , Okinawa, all depends upon your unit or your job spec = MOS

The 3rd option he didn’t mentioned is the officer route. Anyone with a BS or BA can enter the Corps to become an officer. 1st it’s OCS (Officer Candidate School) used to be 8 weeks not sure how long it is nowadays, then come TBS (The Basic School) it used to be 6 months long basically infantry training school in Quantico, then MOS school for non-infantry officers.

If anyone is considering joining at 25+ years old just keep 2 things in mind. 1. You will be around a bunch of kids who likely have zero life experience and number 2. Their bodies might be able to take the punishment better than yours. I did 4 years in the army and couldn't imagine trying to do it now at age 32.

WHen you graduate boot camp, your are a Marine, a green boot, but Marine, in OJT. ALL MOS should complete the ITB 0311. USMC should do what NSW did. open their own jump school and combat diver. select one. then go to MOS. annual rifle & pistol range shold be a 20 mile march to range, sleep in field and shoot then march back.

The Corp has changed a lot over the years. Drill Instructors aren't allowed to beat the crap out of you. No more after hours at the DI hut. (yeah that was fun! ) No more profane slurs or cuss words directed at the recruits. It was like "Lee Ermy" said. "we were VERY Hands ON, back then". I watch some of these videos on KZbin about Marine boot camp. T-ee shirts and tennis shoes on runs. HOW ABOUT UTILITES , BOOTS AND FULL M82 gear. canteens full of water. Yeah, now were talk'n!

this is a "no brainer'. While on active duty, you will be provided quarters. I was an ADMIN GUY for 30 yrs of service across 3 branches. While on active duty, you WILL be provided quarters; be it a barracks room on an active base, or other accommodations if you are in a specialized duty aboard a ship, a barracks, etc. While in school, you will not be permitted family housing as most class cycles are short. Regardless of rank, you will be provided housing on base or off base, a meal card to eat, or commuted rations if your family is involved. When reporting in, there are a number of "first steps" that must take place before anything else happens; the USMC will provide for you before ANYTHING else takes place. (MCRD SD Nov 1983)

This isn't related to the video much but how often do USMC Officers see combat? My biggest struggle currently is deciding if I want to enlist or go through ROTC and become an infantry officer. Shipping overseas and in to a combat zone is a pretty important thing for me and I don't want to be stuck in country behind a desk. I'm sure you can find lots of officers in bases in combat zones but how often would you find them say out on a patrol or mission? Thanks.

It all depends man... I've met infantry who never deployed, and I've met infantry who deployed and never saw combat. If you wanted to see combat I would have joined 10-15 years ago... Not say you wont now, but were just not deploying at the rate in which we used to. If you want to see combat, your best bet would be to go infantry for sure. I would go a step further and make MARSOC an end goal of yours...

I would choose operator over mechanic any day. That's just me... It's all personal preference. I enjoyed my time as Motor T. Day to day was fun and shitty at times, just like anything else. The Marine Corps was a great experience and I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Not really much experience with Intel, but I think its definitely a great MOS to consider. I was 20 when I enlisted. Came home from working a double shift at a restaurant about a month away from missing the start of my junior year of college because my grades sucked. Sitting in the driveway on that Friday night I said to myself, "I'm heading down the loser path, I need a change. I'll go to the recruiters on Monday.". Within 2 months I was standing on the yellow footprints. Best decision I ever made and one that I was glad to never waver from once I made the decision.

Everyone goes to the fleet... After you're done with MOS School, or ITB for infantry you get assigned your first Duty Station and Unit you will report to. That is when you officially enter the "Fleet". You're a full blown Marine then! As a Junior Marine (E1-E3) you will get f'd with... Expect it. Hazing is not allowed, but as long as your not a shit head you'll be good. Stand up for yourself, and don't let people walk all over you! I'm not telling you to tell your Sergeant to F off, because you'll most likely get punched in the mouth, but don't be a baby! Have thick skin as well! Marines LOVE talking shit and if you take it serious and get butthurt, you'll be the target.

After boot camp he’ll head off to MCT which is about a month long. There he’ll learn basic rifleman stuff. More time with weapons, field training, and stuff like that. After that he’ll go to MOS school for whichever Job he picks. As a welder, I think the MOS code is 1316- Metal Worker. The MOS school is in Virginia I believe and is roughly 72 days. This is just from some quick research I did since I never even knew the MOS existed when I was in! But, yes, they will teach him everything about welding and he will acquire all of the certifications necessary. Diesel mechs are under the MOS code 1341 I believe. I’m not 100% sure. He’ll learn all about how to fix heavy equipment if he went that route. No college is required. Feel free to reach out whenever! My email is in the About me section.

Hey man, thanks for reaching out. I appreciate the support, but also I am glad you're finding some use out of the videos. As for your last question, I would have to agree with that statement. Obviously, this is all situational, but Cops are always at risk while on the job, especially with everything going on in our country right now. The media paints them out to be villains which is sad and unfortunate. Think about the risk a cop takes pulling strangers over. You just never know who the hell you're pulling over. As for the dangers associated with being in the Military.. Its obviously going to depend on your MOS and what you're doing. When I was deployed as a motor vehicle operator our biggest threat was IED's. I met grunts out in Afghanistan that had been out there for full deployments that didn't even fire a round. Again, this is a tough question to answer, but I would say yes being a cop is more dangerous. I'm not sure if you've already joined, but if you haven't you should join the Discord Community. Nobody is required to jump out of a plane in boot camp. Most infantry will never even jump out of a plane. You’d need to go to jump school for that opportunity

That is not ture that all Marines go to infantry training after boot camp. It depends on your selected MOS.
