I'm in my late 40s and have struggled with anxiety (and sometimes depression) all my life. I've used therapy to help during the worst of it but by far I credit decluttering in the reduction of my anxiety. Without trying to convince you to do the same, only wanting to share my journey, for me, the less I have the better I feel. I can't explain it. I feel peaceful and calm in my home. I remember the Minimal Mom talk about the "Silent To-Do List". She explains that every item we own comes with a silent to-do. Everything we own has to be cleaned, taken care of, repaired, looked after, sorted, found a home for, dusted etc. Her video changed my life.

Yes. I can see the advantages of decluttering. Definitely the goal. I’ve just found that decluttering and moving house , although a very logical time to get it done - it has just compounded the anxiety. It’s fine though. Lots of content to go.

@MySemiSortedLife praying for you. I suffer from depression ,anxiety...Iv gone to 3 doctors with no help, one saying oh just don't get stressed.yep. So I deal with it on my own. Not my choice. I am also introvert ,that has gotten worse since 3 people I thought were friends dropped me as a friend after I converted to Catholic.. Every day is a struggle. No family.members to turn to, I have a mom but then I don't. After hurtful words to me and my son we have not talked in 4 years. So just.myself, hubby and our only son.. So it makes for lonely days when they are at work.. But I try to go on. So I will be praying for you

While I think it's wonderful that you're putting up videos of your packing process, please understand that it's okay just to Get. Stuff. Done. without recording it all for us! You're in a stressful time crunch at the moment and it's okay if you just pack up areas without taking the time to set up camera and lights, without taking the time to edit the footage, without creating thumbnails and titles and all that. If you're struggling with the motivation to fold laundry or pack a couple of boxes, please don't feel like you have to provide your audience with video of you actually doing it! You are valid, regardless. It is more important that you get through this next 8 days or so of uncertainty by getting things sorted and packed than by showing us the process. Deep breaths, hydration, and know that people have your back and will cut you plenty of slack if you don't upload regularly right now.

Mel I know you are struggling bust just keep putting one foot in front of the other. You will soon see the other side. A couple tips when you know about the specific date a good thing to do. Take a couple boxes per person or one if that's all you need. Put all the kids clothes and pjs they will need for the first week and all school books bags etc. and bedding they will need as soon as you move in. Then all that stuff will be in one place not strung out everywhere. Also make a box of cleaning supplies you will immediately needs. This will help I hope.

You can do it!!! 💪🏻 We moved 12+ years ago. We had 6 months to pack and move, but we didn’t find a new place until one week before moving. My gosh that was a terrible experience! 😓 We also had to throw away A LOT. Not because of the lack of space, but because we didn’t know where we were going and we had no storage. Depression and anxiety are my lifelong friends(?), so I really feel you. Hugs and positive vibes 💖

I'm with you on the depression struggle this week. We took a week off school to have a staycation and our only vehicle had a brake almost go out on day 1. We had to park it the rest of the week and will be spending our weekend working on it. My goal for this week was to change directions. Focus on rest, nutrition, and catching up on work to where we could take an away from home vacation very soon.

Mel I'm so sorry! I know it would be so much easier if you knew what was happening so you can plan your move. You must be so frustrated on top of everything else. As you know I also have anxiety and depression and right now it's going through the roof. I've had several anxiety attacks in the past couple of weeks. At the end of may my mortgage is going up to whatever the rate is at that date. I'm a nervous wreck because we live on limited income. It changes every five years and when we bought this house it was 5.75 interest , I have no Idea on what the rate will be this May. A certain person has certainly screwed up our country of USA, I won't say it's name. I will pray for you Mel right now!!!!I just prayed for you and your family and I hope God answers my prayer for you. ❤️🦋❤️🦋❤️🦋❤️🦋❤️🦋❤️🦋

As a fellow struggler with severe anxiety I just wanted to say that starting talking meds for my anxiety saved me and gave me my life back and choosing meds does not mean you've given up in anyway. I know I tried every trick in the book to cope on my own but at a certain point I realized it had taken over my life and refused to let it continue to do so. Once I felt the meds taking effect ( takes a few weeks) I literally cried my eyes out because I finally felt peace and calm in my life again. The only regret I have is thst I denied myself that peace for so long because I wanted to be strong and just get over it myself but it wasn't worth all the extra time I spent struggling day in and out. If you choose to take meds just know it is nothing to be ashamed of, your choosing to take your life back for hourself and your family. I only write this comment because after being a longtime watcher Ive heard you talk of your struggles for quite a long time and I see myself and wish someone had told me it was okay to take meds and it is by no means, means you've failed.

Hi I want to share my story. At 18 years old I had a clinical depression episode I literally could not leave my bed for two years. After that my life got better for years the depression I felt was light (dysthymia).Only two years ago I started having euphoric days and very depressed days.I still dont know what I have now in the past I was told bpd and cyclothymia. But ever since two weeks ago I just feel depressed...so to my astonishment I think Im in a major depression episode again I dont know how to survive this time around because I was used to the "highs."My family is already tired of me being sick.Im very discouraged. Im gonna start new studies in September I need to get better by then or Ill just be a disappointment

I am so sorry I just saw this. I hope you’ve gotten to another stage in all this but most importantly I hope you’ve been in touch with your GP and Mental Health Supports. I know how paralyzing and debilitating depression can be but regardless of how long it takes to get through you can get through. This is not a failure. This is a chemical imbalance. Your family are not sick you - that’s depression talking. They might be at a loss on how to help you but I can assure you - they love you and they want you to be ok. Just as I do. I’m gutted I didn’t see this until now. If you see this - do “just one thing”. Brush your hair. Or brush your hair teeth. Have a shower or change you clothes. Just one thing. And then tomorrow do that one thing and just one thing more. Slowly but surely you’ll trick depression out of the drivers seat with your just one thing. But above all else. Reach out to your mental health supports. Hugest hugs and love.

Some days I am ok and feel like I can do a lot and others I have a hard time getting out of bed. On days when I feel like I can do something, my timer is the washer. I set a challenge for myself. Sometimes I make a list of the most important things I want to get done and add and mark off as I finish them . ( I am a completer if that makes scene) I love to look at a list that I made and see all the things crossed off. It makes me feel more accomplished lol. Hi Lovely, I'm from the UK & I just found your channel within the last 2 weeks when I was searching for house moving content. I am currently in the exact same boat...no clear moving date just yet but due to be by the end of February. My hubby has already moved back to Ireland to start his new job while myself and my three young boys are still in England waiting for a confirmed moving date. I too have struggled with anxiety and depression for all of my adult life and from my young teenage years. I started having panic attacks about 3 years ago too. All that to say, I'm finding your content so comforting and helpful to watch in this season of my life. Lots of love and decluttering/ packing motivation sent your way. We can do this! 🥰

Hi Mel, me again, your soul sister. Still dealing with A&D but still trying to move forward. You inspire me so much and I like the ten minute idea. I am finding that as the days get longer that helps me too. On March 10th clocks "Spring forward " so I am excited for that. See you next time!! Cheers x

Oh it hurts my heart to hear you have such negative self talk. I think you’re wonderful! I come & go on KZbin because sometimes I don’t have time. I’ve been around for years & you have come a long way! I hope this move gives you a good reset of everything. We moved months ago & still finding where to home things lol

Hello Mel! I hear you loud and clear! I struggled moving house I was so depressed I couldn’t do anything, I just went to bed with the doona over my head and slept. When my antidepressants don’t work as well as they used to because your body gets used to them I head straight to the Doctor and he will give me a higher dose or change my tablets but it takes a few weeks before they start to kickin then I start to feel that I can cope better. Mel everything will work out in the end for you and your family, then you will look back and ask yourself why did I stress. You are soso loved and you will always have a special place in my ❤️ heart.❤️🌹🐶

Hi, Mel! I read The Sidetracked Home Executives a few years back. That led me to FlyLady and I adapted her system to meet my needs...there has been no looking back since then! I am thinking of you, Mel. You will get through this...I am hoping you get a set date soon (or that you already have one!) xo

Awesome job. You did a great job explaining how you get yourself going. If I had a video record of my past 15 years I would probably delete 90% of it. I think you are brave to even put it behind a paywall. I have bipolar and a very disorganised brain. Then I developed a blood disorder that made me very fatigued and was working full time. We are blessed to have NDIS funding available for my son and we use some of that money for domestic help. When I finally let someone in to help clean twice a week it was a huge relief. It took me 2 years after getting the funding to allow someone into my mess to help. I suggest you reward yourself with a cleaner at the new house. Even once a fortnight to get your floors washed and kitchen and bathroom cleaned will change your life. You will actually spend less because you won't need to therapy shop and you won't want to bring clutter into your clean house. Also.... I recently discovered I have aphantasia. I don't have a picture in my minds eye, I always thought that was just an expression and to find out that people actually can visualise things blew my mind. I can't see things in my mind so I can't picture what I want to achieve and that was a real eye opener for me. I now take photos of what I want to work on and I draw on the photo on my tablet to visualise what I want the room to look like.... or the garden to look like... and it actually works.

Hey Mel! Was so excited to wake up to a new video! Have the littlest one home sick today and struggling to find motivation! I love your strategies of doing just one thing or small time increments! Thank you! Goodluck with your move! It’s the most stressful and overwhelming thing to get your head around! We are all cheering you on!

Mel I have a depressive disorder and anxiety and like you it leaves me struggling to motivate myself , I seem to get a big rush of energy just before an episode of depression where I get loads done then I crash . My house is a mess at the moment needing a good clean and tidy but I just do not have it in me to do anything , You are doing great even ten minutes is better than none and lets face it you got a lot done in that time , I try not to compare my house to other peoples but went to a relatives the other day and their home was immaculate although only two of them live there and I had to remind myself that six people live here including a three year old , You will get sorted and the depression will ease off but please remember your entitled to rest and moving house would stress out even the most stable person on earth .x

I’m confused. He is giving you the keys 2/19. You have to be out of current place 2/27. What is the problem? There is a weekend in between.

We work full time and my husband works weekends. We are doing it all ourselves. We were hoping to have a second weekend to finalize things at the old house. It was just a time crunch we weren’t anticipating.

Hello you’re doing a great job! Try to focus on the task at hand. I know that the unknown is scary and can make you more anxious. Usually, things work out and it’s never as bad as anxiety makes it out to be. May I suggest that you reward yourself with a snack or something that you enjoy. It may help you to keep going.❤

I think the members only move was a good one. I might just give you the gentle reminder that it's your channel and your choice 🫶 (just a nudge from a trying to be former people pleaser 😅). Sharing your story and process is really encouraging, sweet and brave...the apology... maybe not quite as necessary 🫂
