I have the Shoei RF-1400 because of this video and it is everything Ryan said. It is incredibly comfortable (once on) and very quiet but it destroys your ears taking it on and off. The trick is to tuck your ears in to the helmet before you pull it down over them. This reduces the discomfort by 50% but it still smarts a little. Other than that...darn near perfect helmet.

And I managed to buy another just like it due to how well my first one faired and how well it protected my head from a side impact and I hit the ground bloody hard. Well worth the £300 or so for it and a pretty good upgrade from my Scorpion Exo Combat which only came with 2 types of tinted visors and not even a clear one for night time use or the snow flurry that I braved like an idiot. I still have that one and i'm going to keep it as a momento and it looks really good.

The ending was "La cerise sur le sundae". Totally hilarious! I was hoping for a more detailed review, but apparently this is a report on today’s technology. That said, you did a great and entertaining job, well done guys!

I'd be curious to see a similar cutaway with market-to-market comparisons, e.g. get an RF 1400 and and NXR 2, dissect them, and show the differences between an ECE 22.06 helmet and a Snell 2020 one.

Another fantastic review, FortNine. Thanks. Btw, I had to look up online today, and it looks like the battle among different types of air filters (paper vs. foam vs. K&N) is still raging. And I thought who but FortNine could settle that debate once and for all (perhaps for three different types of bikes - one being the ADV, of course). When should we expect it?

If you go by the engineers Honda just tells you to run them there some compress air every once in a a while and throw it back in. If it’s good enough for Honda good enough for me

I already bought the Shoei RF-1200 on clearance so I saved a ton of money, which to me is the best helmet! Haha!
@newenglandscrambler2262

Check the "born on" date. Most helmets on clearance are 2-3 years old already, so sometimes more than half of the useful lifespan of the helmet before the materials degrade and safety is compromised. There's a reason why they are being sold cheaply. And you can often negotiate for an even better price if you know how old it is and present the seller with that info.
