I got hit at almost 60mph and I walked away scratched but fine. The SHOEI helmet left my head and face unscathed after several rolls and bounces. It's a bit more expensive but SHOEI has my vote of confidence!

Mandatory disclaimer: people should check the details of the ECE rating they see on helmets. 22/05 and 22/06 are quite different and not many helmets are up to the 22/06 standard just yet!

In most European countries beginners are limited to either cc or power for two years. In the UK it is 34hp and in Germany it 27hp. A number of manufacturers sell bikes in two versions: Unrestricted for experienced riders and throttled back with a removable kit for beginners.

@@gustavmeyrink_2.0 Here in Quebec we have three classes of motorcycle license. Under 125cc, under 400cc and unrestricted. It's not based on age, but on what motorcycle you use for your practical exam. You can practice on a full-size motorcycle on a learner's permit but not at night.

I have the Shoei RF-1400 because of this video and it is everything Ryan said. It is incredibly comfortable (once on) and very quiet but it destroys your ears taking it on and off. The trick is to tuck your ears in to the helmet before you pull it down over them. This reduces the discomfort by 50% but it still smarts a little. Other than that...darn near perfect helmet.

This is a most excellent video. I like how you cut it apart, explain each layer and rating standard. I have ridden 45 years, always buy top of the line helmets offering the best protection. I crashed in 1983 with a Bell Star helmet which save my life no doubt, crash once and you are a believer. After my crash I took a motorcycle safety course and learned how to ride, went on to become a motorcycle safety instructor for 15 years and now just enjoy my wind therapy.

I use HJC's and i've gone through 2 of them due to wrecking myself in late 2019. And I managed to buy another just like it due to how well my first one faired and how well it protected my head from a side impact and I hit the ground bloody hard. Well worth the £300 or so for it and a pretty good upgrade from my Scorpion Exo Combat which only came with 2 types of tinted visors and not even a clear one for night time use or the snow flurry that I braved like an idiot. I still have that one and i'm going to keep it as a momento and it looks really good.

but then dont forget that a FIM helmet might safe you at a 200 km/h crash, but there is no part in the regulation that would help you in you normal 50 - 100 km/h crash if you design a helmet to jsut work at high speeds you get one that sucks at low speeds while the contrary isnt as true

I already bought the Shoei RF-1200 on clearance so I saved a ton of money, which to me is the best helmet! Haha!

Check the "born on" date. Most helmets on clearance are 2-3 years old already, so sometimes more than half of the useful lifespan of the helmet before the materials degrade and safety is compromised. There's a reason why they are being sold cheaply. And you can often negotiate for an even better price if you know how old it is and present the seller with that info.
