In case no one has mentioned it in the comments before, the high vis interior of the bag is useful to contrast against all the stuff in the bag so that you are not just looking into a dark hole.

I purchased the Icon Urban last year for my 10 week Adv trip based on your review. I can say it was really great. I especially appreciated the comfort of the backpack mode when getting off the bike and doing an 8-10 mile hike. Keep up the great work. The magnets worked fine on my Super Tenere. One modification I made to the bag was to have a local upholstery shop add a strap to the top to go around my handle bar mount, which worked fine.

FYI, the 18L Cortech bag is expandable with a zipper like a lot of roller board luggage is. When unexpanded it is the same size as the 12L, which I think is plenty of room for typical commuting gear and other necessities.

While some people hate them, I’m a big fan of tank bags. I have three I’ve owned for years, and which I use regularly: a small and very low profile Ogio, a smallish Icon, and a larger/expandable FirstGear Silverstone. All three are magnetic, so a bike with a steel tank was a factor in my purchase decision when I bought a new motorcycle last fall.

I have been riding for about 3 years with the Givi GRT Series tank bag, the GRT 715 (not the new one, but the previous model). The base mount is strap-held, with a nice hole in it for fuel tank access, so i only have to release a couple of snap buckles to refuel. It has 2 side non-waterproof pockets (although never had a single droplet of rain water in them), and a large main pocket with a compartment on the lid wich is transparent from the outside - great for a roadmap (i don't know how you do it in Canada, but i still can read a map - and actually prefer one on my trips, just to randomly choose roads i haven't rode before). The best thing about this bag is it's waterproofness - i usually carry my camera in it, and never had a leak, even after riding for more than 5 hours in a downpour at slow speeds (escorting a group of cyclists).

The one missing is the Bagster tank cover/bag combination. They are pricey but you get a contoured make/model and colour matched tank cover with universal Bagster tank cover mounts which means that if you own multiple bikes the tank bag can fit on any bike. Also, with D-rings up front, all you have to do is unbuckle the rear mounting points (a simple push of a button) and the bag flips forward for refueling. This way if you forget to recoup, the bag is still attached by the D-rings. I have used Bagster for years and never scratched a tank nor lost anything.

I've got a Givi EA106B. It's truly tiny - officially six litres, but I'll be buggered if I can find half of those - but if it's just me and the holy trinity of phone, wallet and keys, that's enough. Slap the magnets on, key in ignition, go. Plus I can tuck behind my VTR1000F's windscreen without interacting with the bag at all, so the small size is an advantage in this respect.

I have that Cortech 2.0 bag and I love it! I decided to use it without the pad because it got in the way and my gas tank is plastic so it's probably not going to get scratched. If it does scratch, the tank bag will hide it.
@DavidslvPT5 жыл бұрын
I think we need an updated video on this. Cover some of the tank bags that have a tank attachment instead of straps and nowadays there are waterproof ones. For me the worse in a tank bag is not being waterproof and I have to slam that cover on top... What I ended up doing in 2018 was to have a plastic bag inside mine to avoid items such as power banks to get water on, it worked, but I would rather not have to do it, although paying £200 for another tank bag is not an option, although you can use Fabsil product (it works on a lot of items if you looking for a do it all waterproofing product)
@wilshire284 жыл бұрын
I only use my tank bag for some snacks and water bottle. I found the clear window on top is no good in the summer as my phone was exposed to the sun and heat causing it to overheat and shutdown. Just a personal opinion but they are great for those long rides.

The Diablo 4L isn't a bad choice; I've just never been a fan of GL's mounting system. Looping the straps (versus the buckles included with the Enduristan bags) makes having a fixed point to tighten from a bit trickier, and the harness is more obtrusive when the bag isn't mounted. As with all GL bags, they are not natively waterproof and rely on an inner dry bag, which is not required with any of the Enduristan bags. x2 Eunduristan
@thinkride38736 жыл бұрын
Ryan, check some tank bags from Indian brands, they are way more easy to use including easy access to fuel cap and padded backpack straps, 1680d material, hi viz rain covers, great shape retention and much more. Also, in some of them, you don't have to remove the base to access backpack straps.

I have the Cortech 2.0 low profile bag that expands from 5 liters to 10 liters and I think it's a great bag. The one gripe I have is the plastic map holder on the top. It's absolutely useless. That is such an 80's design when we actually used maps but Cortech really dropped the ball on this map cover. Firstly it's way to small to insert a road map unless you fold it about 5 times which it would to thick to insert. I mean what were they thinking with all the tech gadgets out there they couldn't design something like the Nelsen Rigg has a removable GPS/Cell Phone and spare pocket holder? One more question Ryan, I agree with you the GL diablo is a really good choice for riders that need to stand up on the pegs. My only concern is the amount of movement or side to side play due to the zipper. Did you have a chance to ride with it on or test how it plays out in riding? I've narrowed down my list to the Diablo or the Endurostan Sandstorm 4H.
@FortNine8 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yeah, it's not a huge deal while riding. The bag wobbles a bit, especially when it's empty, but I never noticed unless I was looking right at it. The movement was never enough for me to feel it, and certainly not enough to dislodge the harness. That Endurostan looks great too... never used one though. I should also mention that the Diablo Pro now comes with an internal waterproof bladder (it didn't when I made this video). ~RyanF9

Have you ever tried Bagster? I have run them on my last 6 mikes for 2 reasons. One the tank cover matches my particular model and colour and it has never scratched the tank. Second the tank bag snaps on the cover and flips up for fueling (but stays attached so you can never loose it).
