Agreed. Last season, I found myself not really caring to play that much. I'd play but it just wasn't that exciting. This season is a complete 180. I love it. Not only is it beautiful, but combat feels more balanced. I don't know if it's the hitscan, lack of snipers, or the mobility but every game I feel like I'm on equal playing ground.

my favorite part so far has been the movement, ive been desperately looking for a game with movement as complex and as rewarding as apex's or tf2's, and while this may not quite be it, its definitely the closest ive experienced

I don't know about combat being balanced...While it is a great season, the Time-To-Kill is really narrow. I get lasered with the scoped AR and I'm dead before I even realize. The Sword is also stupid-broken and is there to give bad players a chance to win against the better players...Nitro-Fist 2.0? Other than these 2 weapons, I like everything else. I just miss being able to run around and mess with stuff around the world without dying the minute I let my guard down.

Snipers are probably coming back very soon though. There’s bullets all over and there’s that new “prone” mechanic/movement coming. I love snipers but I also like being able to stand still for 1 second without dying.

I've been playing nearly every day for about 2 years now and this is my favorite season so far. The world is actually so beautiful and the movement is so fun, especially with the typhoon blade. LOVING it

Agreed entirely! I lived in Japan for 3 years to study martial arts, and every POI feels like visiting a different part of Japan. Seaport City reminds me of Tokyo, the Nightshift Forest is like any of the large parks during Hanami (cherry blossom viewing day/week), the buildings at Flooded Frogs look like Asakusa... And of course, all the ninja movement reminds me of that too... 😉 Thanks for the great video!!

This is an aspect of the game that is never talked about which is a shame because it's one that Epic puts an insane amount of effort into. I'm still finding fun things on the map i didn't know about. The map design is top notch this chapter/season. Everything feels interconnected in a way that makes the locations seem like real places while still holding onto many fantastical elements.

Honestly so far I'm enjoying this season more than anything in Ch5. Like the katana can be annoying since all an enemy needs to do is hold left click and not do anything, but it's not TOOO strong, and thankfully we don't have even worse BS items (*cough cough* thankfully no sniper). NGL I feel the new movement has griefed me more then it's helped, but eh, it's fine I guess. The bosses can be annoying when they have a million HP but also the medallions seem balanced (as in aren't mega OP, just nice advantages) so it's fine. Hell I might not be much into the Japanese theme, but looking at it objectively I can't deny they've done a great job on it. Only thing I slightly disagree on is that when you said how the entire map is Japanese themed instead of being a mess of themes, that implies that past chapters have been messy. But I mean Ch4 was all medieval based, Ch5 was all sorta Italian themed (with the underground sorta mafia stuff, with the seaside villages and the Alps looking mountains and their resorts). But yeah great season.

Epic nailed so many things in this chapter I legitimately love the feeling of the gunplay and casual modes. Ballistic is questionable with its strange hit registration but fun for casual. Sadly this is the season I stopped playing fortnite so I hope everyone can enjoy it while it lasts I think this will be a good one!

I was telling my girl this just the other day when I showed her the details and how I would like to have POI quests after I beat everyone at a zone. That's what would keep me playing. Landing somewhere beating everyone, then activating quests. Unfortunately... I cant get out of my rank and realized I'm wasting my time. I uninstalled and will be back next season.

Chapter 4 is still better than C6 and was much more fun. Despite improvements on map, Fortnite is ruined by terrible inbalance and unfairness. You can’t play without shield, and without mobility or good weapons you are already dead. OP weapons has changed Fortnite from a fun battle royale and turned it into a camp and shoot in the back game.

@@derd3sometimes I get a big pot upon landing but rarely. Mid-end game always gives me med kits when I need shield. Too often i’m having to face opponents and last fight low on health/shield. If you get into fights you take damage.

Wow Toby, this was a great video. The far east music to compliment the ancient Japan theme, the beautiful scenes, it really showcases the beauty of the Chapter 6 island. And yeah, I am that guy who lands edge of map just to explore, always hoping I'll find some over looked loot spot or Easter egg. The map is really a work of art. This is gonna sound crazy, but I've been playing on ultra settings, ray tracing and everything. I wouldn't recommend it for playing competitive, but for casual play, it really makes the Chapter 6 map "pop". The lighting/shadows give off such a cozy vibe. I often find myself fishing in the waters and taking in the beauty (and a pocket full of shield fish). I love exploring this map and looking for weird things like the robots sitting at cash registers and other weird stuff, it kinda reminds me of Fallout 4 with all the mannequins in weird positions and places. It makes me wonder "so what's going on here, what is the story behind this place". And when I am in the mood for total nonstop action I load into Reload. And when I feel nostalgic for the simpler days of old Fortnite I load into OG. I still haven't tried the other official Epic game modes like Ballistic and Lego Brick Life because I just haven't felt board enough to venture off into non-Battle Royale game modes. I feel like there aren't enough hours in the day to play Fortnite. Which is a good thing. Epic is really spoiling us lately.

@TobyWanShinobi Ohhhh Snap, Shinobi is an OG lol. You should try doing a No Builds Challenge. Where you play in Builds Mode and don't build and try and get the win. A few streamers have done it. Of course you would prolly get a bot lobby in the beginning because you don't play builds. But maybe play a few games and then when you get a better lobby I think it would make a great video.

A key issue carried over from Chapter 5 is the change in melee mechanics. The Typhoon Blade’s spammable nature disrupts balance, particularly for those who prefer gunplay. In contrast, the Kinetic Blade was far better-primarily a mobility tool, with marginal damage and no spammy animations. These changes have driven many of us to modes like Reload and OG, which is a shame given the quality of the Chapter 6 map. Your voice is influential, and honest critique could make a real difference. Perhaps I find ways to enjoy seasons more than most. A 6.5 is still a D... there were a lot of good aspects to Ch5 S3, it was just hard for many people to recognize because of the major issues. I think a big part of giving good feedback is praising the good and criticizing the bad. Many people just point to the bad and that is certainly helpful, but after a while it's just people repeating what everyone else says and not really thinking for themselves. Recognizing the good is important as it not only helps developers realize their fans are supportive of their efforts (even when they miss), but also helps them understand what we really enjoy. The typhoon blade is extremely easy to counter this season if you know how to reposition quickly in a fight, as I show in my typhoon blade guide. I haven't died to a sword in about 30 games in a row now.... but it felt like every game for a while there.

That said, I wonder if the disconnect lies in how feedback is framed. It seems most players judge seasons on Relative Value-comparing them to prior experiences. On that basis, if the worst season on record (as many agree) scores a 6.5, it calls the scoring metrics into question (afterall, what would justify a 2 or 3?). However! If your ratings are based on an absolute scale, that would explain the difference and making that distinction more explicit might help. My concern is that some viewers may struggle to reconcile your scores with their own experiences, and thereafter dismiss your valuable content. Your title feels spot-on-Fortnite is no longer a pure Battle Royale but now more an “Adventure Shooter,” a shift that arguably began in Chapter 5. Superpowered items like Medallions make gameplay predictable and formulaic: go to this POI for the best item, rotate there for the next, and outpower opponents, rinse and repeat until the point of boredom - it’s now a curated quest game. In Chapter 4, bosses and vaults offered advantages but weren’t essential to win. Since Chapter 5, that formula has become almost a prerequisite for success, detracting from the flexibility to land and loot anywhere on the map and have have full freedom to explore, rather than rushing to the “important POIs”, while maintaining an equal chance of victory. Mechanics like the Typhoon Blade further frustrate casual players and gunplay enthusiasts. While your guide offers excellent counters, many players aren't Fortnite careerists and don’t have countless matches to hone melee counters. Many hop on for their limited playtime and often leave feeling spammed rather than outplayed / outgunned. The main complaint I’ve heard focuses on being trapped in low-skill melee animations (as well as auto-targeting weapons etc) -something that arguably started in Chapter 5 with Chains of Hades, Nitro Fists… (auto-turrets, War Machine's arsenal…) By comparison, Chapter 4’s Kinetic Blade felt more balanced, serving primarily as a mobility tool with marginal damage and no trapping animations. Reload and OG modes provide an escape for many, but it raises the question: is this what Epic wants-players avoiding main chapters? It certainly seems the direction of travel from this viewpoint.
