Yes they sacrificed a young man who was found in a lake in Epping UK for the winter solstice of Antaria It's a Serbian ritual but Druids Pagans witches and Celts often share rituals.. First fruits was a pharic deception of God's word..about farming and letting the first fruits go to seed to ensure a harvest..The people were instructed by the priests to sacrifice their first child that's why prostitutes were placed in the temples 😭 all this comes from the Levant..but if the crops failed they would take it to the nex level..Carthage bears proof of the extremes they took it to..also Tunisia and Jerusalem..the Gauls hung out in grave yards with the Goths from gaulgotha..who went to Finland.. There was definitely a "last druid" since everything we know about them and their beliefs was written by the Romans who conquered them and outlawed druids and any practicing druid was punished by death so what we think they were is what the Romans said they were and the Romans did not give us a fair and unbiased history of them.

Absolutely wonderful treatment of the ephemeral Druids! Seeing as the former big players like Nat Geo and the History Channel can no longer put together an objective and intellectually sound documentary, I'm glad to see YT channels like yours flourishing. I really liked your touches on ritual practice and the way you widened it up by broadening the cultural horizon! It was particularly interesting to see how the mistletoe was handled in ritual. I see quite clear parallels to the myth of the death of Baldr where we can assume, with some degree of probability, that it was no mere myth but a description of physical phenomena grounded in ritual where people annually might've burned a human representative of the god and cut the mistletoe with solemn ceremony. It seems as though this myth was acted out as a magical rite to cause the sun to shine, trees to grow, crops to thrive, and to guard man and beast from the dark arts of elves, fairies, trolls and witches with evil intent. IIRC scholars have argued that Baldr should be viewed as a tree spirit/deity of vegetation, who first and foremost represented a particular kind of sacred tree, the oak. The mistletoe, as an evergreen semi-parasitic living on the oak, represented the seat of its life, its external soul. Ceremonies and rites thus embodied the oak and its life force as a living man, who could neither be killed nor wounded so long as the mistletoe remained uninjured. The pulling of the mistletoe was thus at once the signal and the cause of Baldr's death.

It's easy to see how they could recite their teachings from memory, using poetic rhythm. When you think of all the songs you know every word to, then it's easily feasible. I know literally hundreds of songs. In fact, I couldn't even say the exact amount, I know so many. Even more telling, if I haven't heard a song for many years, I still remember the words. I've long said they should teach using music, because you never forget a song. 😀

Think of reciting a 6 minute song 60 times with a student and having that student sing it by himself until he did it note for note & sound for sound, having him do the same sequence the next day with another student, having that sequence repeated daily for 6 months, What you will hear at the end of the 6 months will be the same song you repeated with your student on that first day…

It is very well produced, narration and sound design on point, and therefore listening to it many times is a bonus and not a problem! There has been a bit of a revolution in our thinking of Celtic Britain of late, mostly thanks to historian Barry Cunliffe. In his book Celts From the West he argues against the 300 year old narrative that Celtic culture came to Britain in C700 BCE. He attests rather that Celtic culture (linguistic) was born and refined in Britain and then spread out to the continent. His conclusions are based on modern evidence that just weren’t available for discussion 300 years ago. This is fascinating from the point of view of one who speaks a Celtic language (Welsh) as it places our language as indigenous to Britain and has been spoken here in some form for some 5000 years. The implications of this to us culturally is no small thing, as for one it posits the construction of Stonehenge as culturally British and not pre-British as has been consistently claimed. Just thought I’d introduce you to this narrative.
@FortressofLugh3 жыл бұрын
I have a video on this narrative and have all of his works on it. However, I think recent genetic research speaks against it. The Bell Beakers were a seperate but closely related Indo-European peoples that were assimilated into the broader Celtic sphere probably through invasions starting by 1200bc. Much respect to Dr. Cunliffe, and I have at points considered his position and was convinced, but ultimately I think, given the genetic studies, that the Bell Beaker population did not change significantly, but that there was a small influx of mainland Celtic elites that shifted the language and religious practices somewhat, but that these groups were not far apart to begin with.
@FortressofLugh3 жыл бұрын
Also, Barry Cunliffe's argument does not claim that Stonehenge is "British" in the sense of having a direct connection to the Celts or Beaker people. It explicitly claims, correctly, that the earlier peoples who created Stonehenge largely disappeared at least partly though conflict with incoming Beaker People, and that these Indo-European peoples appropriated the sites which were built by others. This is actually a very old argument but has been proven through genetic studies. The only difference is that Cunliffe, Koch, and others switched the direction, so that the Beaker People were the originators of the Celtic language rather than a Danube origin. If this was the case though we would expect to see an outflow of genetics from Britain and Ireland into mainland Europe in the early Iron Age or before, but the opposite has now been detected, with about a 10% inflow in the late Bronze Age. Regardless, it doesn't change who the British people are today, it is only an interesting historical point. The question of what makes something "native" is touchy, but I think more than 3000 years residing somewhere ought to do it. Welsh is more native to Wales than French to France or Arabic to Egypt, so the need to constantly try and push the age further and further back to prove it is native is needless. It has existed there longer than most other languages or people have anywhere on earth, as people move about, get wiped out in invasions, have lost languages, etc.
@TreforTreforgan3 жыл бұрын
Fortress of Lugh well, his claim that British Celtic culture is about 5000 years old places Stonehenge, at 3000bce, to be at the beginnings of that cultural period, surely? Stonehenge wasn’t completed until 2000bce however, which if Cunliffe’s thesis holds water Celtic British culture was well established by its completion.
@3rdeye6713 жыл бұрын
@@TreforTreforgan are you including the Bell Beaker Folk as Celtic? For as far as I know the Celts were an Iron Age people arising after 1000 BC.
@TreforTreforgan3 жыл бұрын
@@3rdeye671 I don’t know so much about that. All I’m doing is introducing Barry Cunliffe’s thesis about the origins of British Celtic peoples and culture. The word Celtic is a bit of a conceit anyhow, and is confusing to our understanding of history. The word Celt was deliberately used as a replacement for Gallic at a time when pre Anglo Saxon British history was entering the popular imagination. The thinking was that the Gallic title would further marginalise the Welsh in the eyes of the English, as the the word is also historically associated with France and this was also the time where Napoleon was carving up Europe. Essentially Cunliffe posits that our understanding of British history is way off, and that people had been speaking Gallic languages (Brythonic, Welsh etc) for millennia and that the assertion that Gallic/Celtic culture arrived in Britain around 700bce is historically inaccurate.

It's hard to pick a favorite part of this video, but two stand out to me in particular: 1) The similarities across cultures. The whole idea of "Proto-Indo-European"-ness. How the idea posited at the end of the Druids possibly believing the soul and the cosmos being of the same type lines up perfectly with Advaita Hinduism. Feeling how connected we all are; how when our ancestors separated to new lands and into new peoples, we took our common natal ideas with us and just adapted them to the new circumstances. 2) I was crafting while watching the video and felt inordinately pleased with myself when the presenter spoke about crafters being the child/incarnation of the god associated with that craft 😎

It's very interesting they held the Hazel and Acorn in high regard. From what I've researched so far, both were essential to the survival of mesolithic Europeans. They would gather and roast huge amounts of these nuts for storage and consumption, even making bread out of them. I'm looking for evidence that these people deliberately spread the oak and Hazel in a quasi permaculture effort.

@@LynxSouth yes I do! As a matter of fact, when I was researching Amazonian Amerindians is when I first realized the possibility of ancient humans purposefully altering the landscape to benefit themselves. Not agriculture as we know it, but something like it. Now I look for signs of it everywhere. The research which led me to this possibility involves a land area the size of France that has edible plants being unnaturally overly represented in the flora. Specifically edible fruits, greens, and nuts along with medicinal plants. This coupled with the existence of terra preta in the same area is a strong indicator that something like an intentional, scientific permaculture effort may have taken place there. Then I watched a lecture about Mesolithic Scotland, and the strong evidence of fires, seemingly intentionally started, in the acorn and hazel forests that existed then. The researchers thought it was evidence of intentional burnings for the purpose of clearing land for pasture. But fire is what allows acorn and or hazel to spread! I share this because I think you'll find the native American permaculture activities to be particularly interesting.

Knock out video! Thank you so much! Like many others mentioned a source list of some sort (doesn't have to be more than title and author) would be amazing.

Ben McBrady told "They feared the sky falling down on them" referred to meteorite showers which were more prevalent back then, hence the need for shelters such as the dolmens.

@@adolfhipsteryolocaust3443 your "unlikely" means nothing, McBrady's reason for their existence is logical and better than any other I've heard, in fact, you tells us what they were for!

@@HeavensEye666 if that was the reason we would see this belif among other people on earth, it is unlikely that the celts were the only ones dealing with these metheor showers, I don't have a theoey about what it means and it's ok because some things are just obsucure and we have no idea
@gerhardheydrich31462 жыл бұрын
An interesting idea, but as dolmens were ancient tombs created for a small elite of important people (as backed up by numerous archaeologcal finds) it is at least very unlikely. The general population of Britain were scattered across a wide area. I am not sure what evidence McBrady uses for a greater prevalence of meteor showers, but it must be remembered that the dolmens were constructed by pre-Celtic peoples around 5000 BCE and I am not aware of meteor showers being more prevelant at that time (although I once found a tektite meteorite in a field by a menhir in the UK), All of the dolmens found in the UK were originally covered with a mound of earth although there may have been an open access point in some, enabling bones to be brought in or taken out.

I think that perhaps people have let their minds downgrade a group that many feared because of lack of knowledge.I have a little Irish, Cherokee and A lot of Hills in my blood coming from Ky and we too are misunderstood but simply have a great Bloodline as we are Sur Ivor's and I think it is good to have knowledge on all religions and use God's Discernment.The Druids seemed like they lived and believed much of what I was taught as a child.Great video.

Your use and explanation of sources goes above and beyond, where it's so refreshing to watch a video on history that truly seeks to contextualise and truly understand sources [contrasted against the authors biases and place/point in time] - as so to try to ascertain the best truth/understanding! Interesting that Hyperborians were in Thrace when Historians reported that Thracians had mainly red hair, and later reported to have migrated north where redheads are found in Ireland, Scotland and Britain, while Bulgeria doesn't have much red hair since they left.

As a patron of yours, I just want to say I really love your Celtic videos. I am really looking forward to watching this one in full later. One thing I would ask for future videos, can you add text in the video for the quote you're reading? I really helps to take the quote in fully. Also, I would love to see collabs with other YT reconstructionists, but that's not hugely important. Edit: I mean longer quotes here. Not short, easy to digest ones of course.

Although I've always been fascinated by the druids, I am much more fascinated by the old religion's ties to Indo-European traditions. This is a wonderfully constructed video. At first I was concerned when I started to watch it that the author had an agenda to describe some cosmic truth that only the druids could reveal, but in fact the author reveals the continuity of the bronze age Vedic traditions, though he does not mention the Yamnaya, it is implied by his many references to an indo European/indo Iranian cosmology. His conclusion that the structure of the old cosmos sees nature as inseparable from godliness and the successor cosmos as seeing nature as something to be exploited by man is revelatory to me. His very thorough depictions of the hierarchy of the ancient gods as a Trinity was very descriptive and very thorough. I wish he would have spent some time addressing the Greek philosophical imposition of the Trinity on Christianity. I cannot wait to watch some of his other videos.

I’ve just finished listening to the audio book Oera Linda, whether it’s true or not, what is fascinating is the connection to the British language to the Frisian people. It’s long but well worth a listen.

Yes in Robert Scrutton book THE OTHER ATLANTIS , does cover the subject of OERA LINDA . THE FRIESANS of Nederland and coastal Denmarken later coastal Frikland , in Germany ? ? Their ancient scrolls cover their history, from 17 th century BC to 14th century AD. They believed in the CREATOR , and called him WRALDER ? ? They had a spiritual class of women priests , and educators . They had their own mini account of the book of Genesis ? ? 👀
