I bought an mpc 1000 black, and the first thing I did was installing the jjos2xl, and it blew my mind because the amount of features that are in the akai os aren't even near to the jjos2xl. 100% recommended

I still use the 1k. JJOS added longevity to this machine. Also the pad upgrade. You can even put mSata SSD in the hard drive compartment. I've made plenty bangers on it. Definitely a easy to use MPC.

I own a blue one with upgraded fat pads and jjos...best sequencer by far. I bought the dave smith tempest, sold it. I bought a sp-404, sold it. Especially if you have midi instruments, the mpc 1000 makes music making so fun.

Why did you sell the 404? If you run the MPC through the 404 compressor you got yourself a killer combo! Best of both worlds. MPC sequencer, with classic Roland effects... I use the 303 and it warms up the 1000 nicely

My favorite thing about about my MPC1000 is how specifically MINE it is. I swapped those pads out. I put a custom wrap on it. I removed and re-soldered a replacement for every single mechanical goddamn switch on that unit. Even now, I'm thinking about adding an SSD hard drive to reduce loading times to a realistic level for modern live usage. Takes a lickin' and keeps on ticking. Even if I don't use it much these days, I may just hold onto it forever because there's always a use case scenario for it.

Next to the MPC60, I think the 1000 had the most impact on the beatmaking world. Like you point out, it made it possible for a lot more beatmakers to get their hands on an MPC. JJOS changed the way Akai Pro interact with their customers. You could do feature requests and bug reports on the MPC-Forums or by mail for the JJOS he then addressed or tried to implement, developing the JJOS more and more overtime. You can see Akai Pro doing that now as well with the latest MPC’s and the MPC software.

Totally agree! I100% ! 've had my mpc300 since late 90s and got my next mpc in 2arly 2000s that was and is MPC1000 Blk , at first I though it was junk... but after JJOS came up on the scene it has become my main DAW , live looping, Live performance tool , I've done tons of shows with it , traveled on the plains , had it always in my bag pack , sampled LIVE gigs and musicians on it , you name it.! .. My MPC1000 recently just stopped accepting any memory expansion RAM chips I had.. have no idea why... so I am back to stock 16MB built in memory ... thats like ... very tough as JJOS takes the space... so I've got like 3.5mb memory left to work with .. unusable ... 'almost. still puzzled what could be the problem with the RAM chips.. ? the expansion slot is intact and clean though . Peace & Jazz!

Love this series! I had a 1000 back in the day and loved it. The JJ OS was dope! But I ended up selling it because of the build quality. The pads and tact switches under the buttons started going out after about 2 years. I picked up a used 4000 and it's much more solid. But for the price and features the 1000 couldn't be beat.

I'm kinda surprised that you didn't touch on the pad situation longer. The original MPC 1000 had a totally different pad system than previous models. The 1000 had individual pads instead of the sensor and pad being all one piece. Not to mention, the individual pads were faulty and would die after a while. They even sold aftermarket cork pads to increase sensitivity that u could install under the pads and eventually akai remade the 1000 and later models had the original pads brought back. I can't remember exactly what indicated the upgrade to the OG mpc pads but you could look at the serial number and tell if it had the new individual faulty pads or if it was one that had the original pad system. That was a BIG DEAL!!!

That wasn't a rumor, the JJ OS was a thing, I had it on my MPC1000 and it was THE JAM. It wasn't the first time Akai didn't listen to their customers. And I ended up getting a 2500 because my buttons wore out, but the "brain" of the 1000 was second to none because of the JJ OS.

Totally on point mate... the mpc1000 was flaw in OS, in rubber pads, woobly and faulty encoder... (but mpcstuff did a great job)... but for the price of One at craighlist it's a beast. I saw improvements in screen too but maybe it would be perfect if this got a vga output like the MV8800. Different era, different machines I wonder... time goes and more and more elevated language abstraction used in new proposals but bare metal machines like this with jjOS it's how an instrument is built. Check also Elk-audio platform to see what I'm pointing...

It's true, the original MPC 1000 pads were trash. You had to replace each pad individually before they made the change with the black painted unit. But even still, without the third party pad upgrade, the pads were still not as responsive as previous MPC's. Outside of that, I loved the 1000. It had heft to it, having an all metal casing, but it was small enough to throw in my bag and go somewhere else to work on music. I never had any problems with the supposed limitations of the original O.S. though. I never tried the JJ O.S. but I hear it is amazing.

Thats my 2nd most loved MPC after MPC3000! Props for the Video! My MPC1000 recently just stopped accepting any memory expansion RAM chips :( .. have no idea why... so I am back to stock 16MB built in memory ... thats like ...hmm very tough as JJOS takes lots of memory space... so I've got like 3.5mb memory left to work with .. unusable ... 'almost ;) . still puzzled what could be the problem with the RAM chips.. ? the expansion slot is intact and clean though . any ideas fam? Peace & Jazz!

Hey man, the blue mpc is ugly as hell I like the Black beauty, it also has better pads. All buttons should be overhauled by 2024 at the latest. It is worth it

I dont think JJ worked on the 500 i recall reading forums about people trying to hack the 500 to make a 3rd party OS like JJOS but it was really difficult. They basically had to reverse engineer this very obscure chip to possibly be able to write code for it.

Man...what bothers me about your vids as that you speak in the "Absolute". Like you were in the studios in the 90's. You don't even know....the AKai's were in EVERY studio. Not just the MPC's But like ALL of the samplers. You ever heard of shoegaze? Or the any 90's band that realized the power of a sharp kick/snare? That was in response to hip hop. Which had it's start with crunchy samples of rock drums (and Roland Drum Machines). You have to "widen your gaze" my dude...music is a "let's kick the can" affair. It's not an "Us VS Them" jam.
