I recently started doing Eastwood coatings due to an old Marine that I shoot with that has lead poisoning. He had to move into his daughter's house due to health reason and gave up all his reloading equipment, and most of his guns. When he showed me that he was paying over $28.00 per box for jacketed 38 SPCL, I took over reloading for him. Bought the first box of polymire coated, then used KZbin to learn how to do it myself. One thing I found out, as you get older, the ability to shake the bullets to coat them is not as good as when you are younger. The action of a small rock tumbler or vibrator cleaner gets the action of static and a little of work hardening of the powder to keep them on the bullet. Took me many tries of different things from a butter tub (#5 plastic) to a PVC arrangement that cost me more than the single drum tumbler. Now, with the single drum rock tumbler, the powder stays on the bullets the same way you show and shacking them in a basket. And yes, I stand mine up as I coat only pistol bullets and use the trays from bought cartridges to stand them up in nose down and turn them over, 3 at a time, onto the pan they are baked in. Now, I get the same coating you do. Thanks for teaching an old dog something new. MSgt. David R. Smyth, USAF, Ret.

Hi... I've been shaking my Eastwood powders on my bullets, and pull the bullets out with tweazers and I roll them across a screen, then I stand them up. So far it is making really nice bullets with very very few if ANY blemishes.. I also pick the bullets up from the base with tweazers... :D

Nick J - It was an ill-conceived attack...Longstreet tried to have it called off, but it had gone past that point...the Civil War would have probably gone on for many more years though if not for Gettysburg...the idea was for the South to prolong the conflict against the industrial North until public opinion in the North gave in, and that could have happened. The path of the United States could have been altered tremendously. Have a great day, FC

Good job Mr. Cookie. Was thinking about trying my hand at casting and powder coating. I don't shoot that much, I am more hunter than shooter. Seems like a lot of dinking around, when I can probably buy what I need and not run the health risks of smelting and processing pure lead.

Hey cookie you know how you put you powder coating in your vibrator . Well it took a plastic salad bowl drilled a hole on the bottom of the bowl. Placed it in the vibrator and now when I’m ready all I need to do is life out the plastic bowl and the powder stays right in the vibrator. Saves a step yup I’m kinda lazy .

elvis ammo - Got the parchment idea from one of your videos. It works well. The no stick foil might have been better as the marks were thinner. But was that because there was less excess powder or because the foil was harder. For all intents, both work well with the no stick being cheaper to use. Am bullet caster for 5 decades and will do my 1st powder coating on bullets today with local general paint store powder white. Nearby powder coating businessman has 50 colors and will sell 8 oz quantity for reasonable price. I stand all my PC'ed rifle and pistol bullets up on non stick foil,it's slow but I can do a couple hundred an hour working with several trays. I like mixing a small amount of HF white with some OD Green or other dark colors and it give a speckle tone effect similar to the old blue enamel cups and plates you use for camping. It's about the only thing the HF white is good for.

MCK - I just imagine the courage of all those American boys fighting for each other and having long disregarded any real reason for the war. Such a waste... but if it hadn't of been for Gettysburg, the war would have stalemated three times as long - and the North would have yielded to public opinion to end it with a negotiated settlement. I used parchment paper when I 1st pc'd, they stuck to the paper, I then found the non stick foil. They seem to stick less and they definitely stick less when you reuse it over and over. I stand all my bullets on there base even the .284 dia, just have to be careful putting in the oven and don't coat them to much or they get like a plastic flashing on the base making it hard to gas check

I have the best luck when I crumple up the non-stick foil... Opening it up, and lay it out with all of the bumps and wrinkles non-stick side up. This cuts down on the surface area that the bullets are touching when I bake them preventing much of the markings.

another great vid... I have used parchment and the non stick foil.. save your money and time... get a silicone mat... I got em for cheap and had to cut em down a bit.... 20$!!!! My toaster oven was a whopping 2.50$, from the Salvation Army store:) it's pretty rough but it heats up just fine. Flames N/a - history hung in the balance at Gettyburg. Had it not been for some tremendous initiative on the part of the Union cavalry led by Buford, the high ground at Gettysburg was preserved for the Union. And had it not been for Jeb Stuart's cavalry failure to provide intel, and lack of initiative taking the Little Round Top on the part of Confederate jr officeers the battle would have been another Union bloodshedding - and the war would have gone on three times longer...the public opinion in the North would have demanded a diplomatic solution...who knows what the USA would look like today.? @deltaskyhawk7 жыл бұрын
What do you think the cost per bullet works out to be?
@FortuneCookie45LC7 жыл бұрын
deltaskyhawk - To be fair, I haven't figured that out, but my base lead costs is zero - so size of bullet makes no difference. I do pay for my Copper Hard and SuperHard alloys from RotoMetals = about 6 cents a bullet. Powder coat powder figure an extra 1 cent. Add a couple of cents for incidentals like energy. Flux is sawdust and is zero. Bullet mold cost (this mold was sent to me by NOE, but if I had to buy it) would be say 2 cents a bullet amortized. So I'd say on the high side 11 cents a bullet. And if the bullets were cast softer, that cost would drop to 8 cents a bullet. We're talking about 500 grain bullets here. Hope this helps... FC

@FortuneCookie45LC6 жыл бұрын

@ericjohnson59786 жыл бұрын
FortuneCookie45LC i like your videos. I have been reloading and casting for a long time. Here's i question , can powdercoated bullets be drived at jacketed bullet velocities? If so. Can you use a softer alloy to promote expansion.
@FortuneCookie45LC6 жыл бұрын
Eric Johnson - you will hear about shooters driving PC cast bullets to 3000 FPS. But the rules of bullets holding the rifling still apply. If the lead strips off the rifling, won’t do accuracy any good. Yes, you can shoot softer bullets at higher velocity with PC, but there is still a limit. That’s why I go with a ceiling of 2000 FPS - conservative, but until there are reports of rifle accuracy otherwise, I’m going with that. Best to ya, FCSteve
