Introduced about 6 months ago, the Lee 6 station 6000 Six Pack Progressive Press is Lee's entry into the 6 station progressives. Midsouth Shooter Supply and MidwayUSA have this press in stock. With the popularity of using powder check dies and bullet feeding dies, Lee's new press gives the station capacity to enable those new innovations in progressive reloading....

Chad Hedges - That RCBS bullet feeder works nicely - but I learned that when adding a new bullet stack - the weight of the new stack impacting on the "interrupter" can lead to the dreaded bullet dump if there isn't a case in the die to absorb the new stack. Once we get that bullet dump a couple of times, we get the idea. Happy New Year to you, Steve

I've had this press for about 2 months, loaded 9mm, 10mm, and 400 Cor-Bon on it so far. Priming system works great. Indexing system is the same as the Pro 4000, weak point is the plastic driver clutch that the indexing rod goes into and rotates the shellplate. The clutch is easily worn or broken if you try to use too much force when putting the indexing rod back in after changing shellplates. The rod should slide right in; if it doesn't reach underneath the carrier and move the clutch a little so the rod lines up with the slots in the clutch. Make sure you have several spare clutches on hand until you get used to changing the shellplate.

Tim Spence = Thanks for the tips. Always good to get the angles from more experienced users. Since I've got to get another spring, I'll look into getting more of those clutches. Lee always had those issues with any of their rod indexing presses. Happy New Year to you, Steve

Thanks, Walter - I've used the press now with the RCBS bullet feeder and RCBS Powder Check Die. But unless we are dumping in primers 100 at a time (and we can run out of primers quick that way), only loading 30-40 primers at a time into the tray runs out of primers muy pronto. For long reloading sessions, multiple loaded Lee primer trays would be helpful to keep the press cranking. Also, multiple loaded bullet feed tubes would be good to keep the press from stalling to load bullets into tubes. Of course, the Lee Case Collator is a must. Best to ya, Walter for a Happy New Year..!! Steve

Nice! I just dropped 200 10 mm reloads from my Dillion 550 B by popping out the quick change .38sp/.357 mag and sliding in the 40 SW/10 MM set up. Planned this ahead so that in 2014 when I started tooling up I would finally be here in 2022 (almost 23~!) and able to reload four different callibers with only two quick change die sets. :) Also just got my 9mm die set...need to buy another quick change station...! :)

Steve Months back, creating my new loading station. I also came up with the idea of the rolling toolbox. All the draws are right there with loading equipment and the small area I have to work with. I bolted down 2x6s for strength and bolted my gear to them. Mine has Lee 12 gauge mounted, lee progressive, Lee single light press, Lee powder loader, Lee app press, RCBC rock chucker, and RCBS bench primer mounted. For all 4 sides, I can be doing some kind of process.

Great video Fortune Cookie. As usual. You covered everything about this new press. I've loaded about 600 .223 rounds through mine using the resize, powder measure$, powder checker, bullet feeder, bullet seater and crimp as you said. Bullet feeder by Mr Bullet Feeder, 6 tubes, and the RCBS powder checker. I added thin fiber washers to the linkage to tighten up the tolerance while also making it smoother. I also replaced the linkage lock nits with low profile nylock nuts. Much better, smoother. Its a pretty press full of innovation.

Hi Dave... I'm just starting to get into reloading and looking for my first press. Wanting to reload 9mm,.223, and 6.5Grendel. I was looking at the 6000 since I could potentially remove the indexing rod and use this as a single/turret at first, and then as a progressive as I learn more. Do you use the auto indexing when running your rifle rounds through it? How do you deal with trimming the cases? Thanks for any help.
@davespin9034
@davespin9034 Жыл бұрын
@@craigbrown1854 Hi Craig, the order I started in was Single, Lee Classic Turret, then the 6000. For bouncing between single and indexed the turret will serve you best. The turret in my view is more fun. 4 pulls and you've got a round vs 1 round after you pull 6 times. Paying attention to 6 operations simultaneously is a lot to manage. I do not use on press priming, I've had far too many issues with it and spilling powder jams up this press pretty badly. This is a cool press, I did things to it to make it feel more precise, like nylock nuts instead of the stock ones, and thrust washers. Tightens up the linkage. If you really want to experience progressive reloading this is a cool press once dialed in. For a new reloaded (I'm fairly new too) I'd recommend the Lee Classic Turret. Why? As you mentioned you can use it as a single by removing the indexing rod. Also beneath pull you fully focus on one operation. Its surprising how many rounds you can do on a turret press with the indexing enabled. Get a kicker kit and its even faster. Another thing better about the turret is the removable turret itself. For caliber changes its 30 seconds, turret and shell holder, done. Once you set your dies for a caliber you are done. To me its more fun and less stressful. The Lee Classic is more like a Dillon which also uses a block to keep the dies together dialed in. Its a cool bullet proof press. The Lee 6000 is a very innovative and pretty press. Having 6 dies is better than 4 on the turret. If you like tweaking and dialing in, and are patient, the 6000 is cool. It is more fussy. A lot is going on at the sane time to watch so you need to go slowly and deliberately. Things WILL go wrong. Spilled powder, shells fall down, bullets don't drop (if you use a feeder). The better dialed in the better it'll work. I loaded about 250 .223 using the turret, then 750 or do using the 6000. Then I used the turret for .308. Because I wanted the powder perfect I trickled. If I missed anything please feel free to ask.

Cranked a bunch of .38 special in mine, new primer pin Lee is now using. Have RCBS powder lockout die which locks the press if under or over powder, case feeder is good, primer doesn’t feed the last 5 so you watch that, do bullets by hand and may get a bullet feeder. Lee is providing good support and free upgrades if needed. I am a happy user after initial problem with primer pin. No short strokes allowed. Have fun.

I've been using a Lee Precision Classic Turret Press with the Pro Auto Disc and an Auto Drum for fifteen years and I have been very satisfied. My only issue with it has been auto-indexing. I removed the indexing rod so I could manually advance the turret head, and this works fine. I am now curious about moving to a progressive press. Nice vid! Ive contacted Lee about the new bottles. I like the idea af the "screw in the bottle" threading. Butwhen your checking charges, you cant put the powder back into the bottle. My suggestion was to put a screw cap on the other end. Makes life easier. And those wrenches are not very useful without having a longer handle. Better than nothing, but Id rather have a real wrench. That said, Ive had good loading experiences with their products.

I’m still awaiting stock here in South Africa. But I own the pro 4000 and it seems they improved the things I don’t like(stronger linkage, steel carrier) and kept the things I like( breech lock, indexing system, case feeding) I do know the linkage from my classic cast and classic turret so this will be a winner. The priming system is completely new but I’m extremely glad they kept the primer tray and didn’t go for tubes. Can’t wait for this press.

Mr. Smit - Hello to South Africa and the Cape of Good Hope..!! Your 4000 is still a good press. That 4000 press got to where I abandoned that Lee primer feeder arm - I could hand feed the primers much more reliably. And that press worked nicely that way. Now the 6000 allows use of bullet feeder (the RCBS bullet feeder works very well as long as we load new bullet stacks with a case in the die so that the dreaded bullet dump doesn't happen from the weight of the new bullet stack defeating the interrupter) and powder check die as well as separate crimping. We're in business.... Happy New Year to you, Steve

I have one of these. I wanted "One press to rule them all!" I.E. do everything from 9mm to 30-06. Breaks my heart to write this. When loading .308, station one likes to leave the shell in the die and tear off only 2 bits of brass. I don't thing it is seating all the way in the plate. I gave up and pulled the die loading only decapped pre-sized brass. That little grey plastic ring thing in your green tray? A. makes partial through shell removal (weight check or other problems) VERY difficult or impossible. B. pops partially out and screws things up. It would have been really nice if Lee had made eh plate carrier and the plate actually FIT each other. The primer pin is only one diameter, small, so it dents and distorts the large primers. Replacement zinc shell plate holders to not come with the screw holders threaded. So if you need one make sure to use either self tapping screws or tap the screw hold first otherwise, the screws can snap upon first installation. I would NOT recommend this press, at least not for any rifle ammo. I would avoid buying this press for anything, except (perhaps) pistol ammo.

OK FC, I've been waiting for this video from you. Hopefully, you'll do the part 2 where you actually load that jar of .45 colt ammo and tell us what you think of the press. Those breechblock bushings are 4 for $20 at midway, but what if you want all 6? That's $40 and you're +2 bushings that sit in the drawer. Is that cheaper than buying toolheads? Is that easier than swapping out a toolhead? Dillon XL 650 toolheads are $40 on their website. I'm curious how you bent the spring that drives the primer feed bar? This press certainly looks good. It would be nice if a guy could cobble a Dillon powder check system this press. I like how you demonstrate the need for clearance from the bench. It looks like in your case you'd be better served mounting it to a piece of 3/8" plate 12"X12" such that it could be positioned far enough out to provide proper clearance. I've never been impressed with any of the available mounts. You demonstrated how the Lee mount needs a screwdriver , or similar pin to keep a press from coming free, in a video from a few years ago. This press is $300 cheaper than XL 750 but does it operate as smoothly as the Dillon? It looks like it from videos other users have posted. We await your opinion. Thanks FC. R, Steve

SteveinLA - Yes, more costs with the breech locks. If you have breech locks already (I have the APP) they'll be no shortage of breechlock bushings. However, having breech locks designated for this new Six Pack Press still means designated breech locks. I intend to do more videos on this press that you'll be able see, KZbin willing. How that spring sprung happened is a mystery, there was a hiccup that I didn't pick up as being problematic, and the next thing I realized was the bent spring...but the function is still fine, so I'll just have to put in a call to Lee for another spring or two. Whatever caused the sprung spring hasn't repeated so it must have been a fluke. I loaded up a quick 200 rounds without much trouble at all. I just got the Inline Fabrication Quick Mount for this Six Pack Press so it automatically gives 1 1/2" more bench clearance - problem solved. Happy New Year to you, from Steve in WA state - soon back to CA...

@@FortuneCookie45LC Greetings FC, you don't know it, but your one of my favorite gun tubers; Cheers! I mentioned the spring because another gun tuber, "come relax and learn" had the same problem he mentioned in his first video about this press. He too wasn't sure how the spring got bent. I believe Lee replaced it. I can see the advantage to not having toolheads, but then again I'm used to having them with the XL650. It looks like Lee got it right this time. I bought a lee Pro1000 a couple of years ago. It was too small. I couldn't get my fingers into it to remove, or replace cases for inspection easily. The primer system was wonky and required inspection to verify that a primer had been delivered to the seating post and that the primer had seated properly. It was such a frustration for me that I returned it. Dillon equipment is expensive; I get that. I am pleased to see that there are less expensive options, but they have to work well without frustration, or dangerous flaws. So, you made 200 rounds. Do you like the press? I stopped in a tiny sporting shop in a tiny town last Friday about was shocked to see boxes and boxes of Federal and Federal Gold Medal. I was sure they’d limit my purchase, but nope…had more in the back. I spent my year’s reloading budget on primers in one purchase. I hope you find some luck as well. I still can’t believe it.

As always, anything we need to know about reloading can be found on FC45LC'S channel. Thanks once again for posting. The lack of an exchangeable turret and the ram linkage overtravel is a bummer. But overall this looks like a pretty trouble free progressive. Especially if the reloader isn't reloading many different calibers.

How precise is the new Lee auto drum powder measure?
@RealMrSmit
@RealMrSmit Жыл бұрын
With ballpowder and small charges it is extremely accurate, less than a tenth of a grain deviation. Extruded powder I can’t load precisely with it as I get a few tenths of a grain deviation( which actually still is better than some factory ammo)

Steve D - Yes, the primers need to have stacking in the primer chute tube; the last 5 primers or so won't feed. If I were running this press like I used to run my Dillons, I'd want about 10 loaded Lee primer trays ready to go (wish I could use primers with reckless abandon like that...). Happy New Year to ya, Steve

Have Lee send you the upgrades gold spring for the priming system. There's a difference in the construction of the end loops. That silver spring is that same as the one on the APP. Inline Fabrication now has two roller handles for this press.

I wonder how reloading equipment manufacturers can sell any presses when primers are generally not available. Where can I buy a few CASES (5000 per) large pistol primers? That new press looks very simplified. Love to see it in action! Hint, hint...

This is the first progressive I've even considered, but it went OOS as soon as I could fit it in my budget...and then I spent that money on primers. To save some cash I'm eyeing the bare bones press and the shell plates I need since I have all the other bits.

Hello to thePsyko Klown..!! Congrats on the primer score...!! That's the limiting factor as we speak - I loaded up a couple hundred 45 Colts to satisfaction with this press, but if I kept going, I'd be gone with primers... so we have to budget our primer supplies. So far, this press is a nice performing progressive. I'll be doing a bit more with it for sure... Happy New Year, Steve

@@FortuneCookie45LC Midsouth Shooters Supply has the best price and a free shipping code (over $49) at the moment. Pulled the trigger on the base press ($240) and the two shell plates I needed. Add in a set of bushings and bench plate adapter and it's a few bucks less than a caliber specific kit. Caliber specific is $340. Now I need those shiny new NOE powder through expanders.

6:30 Looks lie you have been a victim of the priming spring kinking. Most of the time it gets ruined. You did a good job of bending it back. I’ve found this usually happens when you are down to the last 3-6 primers. I’ve found that if you keep the primer chute full this does not happen.

And which one are you going to use? I am going to be ordering a in-line fabrication roller handle for my progressive press, the ergonomically one. keep up the great videos. The press base was flush with your bench. Do you think mounting the press somewhat forward and past the edge would still allow it to be secure? I assume an overhang of even a half inch would make for clearance on the down stroke. Looks like three bolt holes per side on the base.

Just too many moving parts and open areas for primer res-ado to build up ,plus you would have to full cycle a bad case for six stocks to get it out of press and if you had a case stuck in a case from tumbling ,way more than my older 550'B which are only four stations.And I see one of your springs has been hurt.Yes I love the APP Lee gets rid of a lot of problems before running into a press like this almost a must. Hi there is there a way to add Lee expander die on station 4, before dropping bullet atop of the brass shell? In doing so, there will only be two stations left to do three tasks: bullet dropping, seating, and crimping. One station short, isn't it? What is recommendation for the case mouth expansion step? Maybe the expander die is not needed in your opinion? Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge on reloading BTW!!

Question: It's difficult to see but, is the ram in the center of the shell plate assembly or offset like the Breech Lock AP? I have the breech lock and I like the press but I find there are inconsistencies related to the shell plate base having flex. I hope this beefier ram is more center to eleviate what I see is a cantilever effect on the previously mention AP.
