My vice is loose like that, too. It's good to steady something wherever you want, like in the driveway, but useless when you really need to torque down on something. I would like to get a second vice that is bolted down for the tough jobs.

Also running the shorter spring in a pack makes it stiffer so it wouldnt be as good for a light front end as adding the longer spring

Move the shackle mount 1.5 inch ahead and drill a new hole for the spring mount 1.5 inch towards the rear. Thats how i installed. The zuk rides better and flexes better now. Plus the springs always have positive camber which the original springs never had from day 1

Dont forget the bump stops.With RUF the front springs are longer from the axel point to the the front even they hit the rocks also earlier then stock springs.

I need to put new bushings in mine... the springs that are in mine are 2.5” YJ lift springs from Rancho. 🤘😎

Nice! Are you running them spring under or over. What tire size?

You could get you a big truck hub for your vise. Make a plate for the hub run a vertical tub and build a mounting plate for your vise. Then you can roll your vise around where you need it and keep it out of the way when not needed.

Looking forward to the next part Kyle. I have a question though: What if I want to keep the front axle centered at its original position? In that case, the increased length will have to be adjusted at both ends. The front will be adjusted by the shackle I think, whereas the rear will have to be adjusted by drilling a hole farther back in the spring hanger I guess. What will be the pros and cons of that in your opinion?
@FortuneOffRoad
@FortuneOffRoad 2 жыл бұрын
I think that's the way people usually do it. You can Google Samurai RUF, and find the info you need. A lot of companies make kits. I think you just need a longer shackle in front and some adapter plates on the hangers. The only con is that you have the same issue with bigger tires rubbing your fender. 👍🏻

If I hadn't forked up the funds for the YJ swap, I would have definitely gone this route - but instead of YJ rears, I would have used CJ rears, which are 2" wide as well. Really curious if your guess at adding both leaves will be right for your setup!

I just did all the opposite on my jeep 😂. I put front springs to trade out leafs on the back of my jeep to shorten the wheelbase.

I can't wait to see how this turns out. I need more flex in my front axle, and I know yjs springs flex like crazy but I don't like the way the stick out in the front. Maybe RUF is like a happy medium. I'm pretty sure they will flex a lot better, from what I see is that the rear axle with any stock length leaf spring combination already flexes a good amount. If I could have the same flex in the front as my trail gear 3" springs have in the rear I would be done with suspension lol.
@FortuneOffRoad
@FortuneOffRoad 2 жыл бұрын
I think the way I do the RUF might stick out the front too. I guess we'll see how it turns out! 🤞🏻
@davidcraft4909
@davidcraft4909 2 жыл бұрын
@@FortuneOffRoad well if the springs are only 3 inches longer, then I'm guessing its going to move the axle 1.5" and stick out 1.5" over stock springs. Thats why I said like the happy medium it will flex better than stock but stick out little more. prolly won't flex as much as yjs but will look better. I'm thinking about doing RUF on mine, I know its going to work good, like 99% sure, and I know you are going to go test it, so I want to say thank you for doing a lot of trial and error so I don't have to lol.
@davidcraft4909
@davidcraft4909 2 жыл бұрын
lol that might of sounded dumb, but it should stick out 1.5" more in reference to the tires centerline.

I did ruf the simple way. I drilled the spring more to the rear. I relocated the front mount a lil more ahead

the sleeve being longer allows you to tighten it down and allow the spring to move

I've looked at the ruf kits. Do you need the kit if you run the missing link shackles?
@FortuneOffRoad
@FortuneOffRoad 2 жыл бұрын
The most important part of the kit in my opinion is the shackle stop, If you're using the missing link setup. I haven't decided on my approach to it yet. I thinks that's pretty much it.

@@FortuneOffRoad ohhh ok I thought you put yj springs in the rear and moved the stock rear springs to the front.. so you just have stock samurai rear springs in the front and back just added some to the front
