@Adam Knight it would be pretty good if they maybe reviewed some 2nd hand kit that us mere mortals my be able to buy as well. Pit some old vs new. Like a gen 2 s1000r vs a newer street triple 765. Different power but also different tech for the same money.

Congrats and have you been able to get it out on the street or track yet? I'm looking at a 23 as well, I think I'm finally getting too old to race mx/sx and I want to get a bike to track locally. This is the 3rd vid I've seen praising the Yamaha and the R1 for the ability to actually make a great bike even better for local racing or track days.

I like that you're keeping it 'budget friendly' with the upgrades up to £1000, will be interesting to see what you can push out of it! I wonder if when you reach the cap if you'll continue the series to show what you can get out of it when you up the budget 🤔Not that I'm in the £1000 budget to begin with, my budget is more along the lines of whatever I get out of the McDonalds happy meal

I always ran my engines in according to the instructions and they always lasted forever, had full power and ran smoothly. Rental bikes ran rough, bumpy and looked weak. my FZ8 alone had over 60,000 km and was running at full power until I sold it. Greetings from Bavaria, ja😁🇩🇪❤️🇬🇧

Can't wait to see how this progresses. I bought a new 2022 R1 (60th GP Anniversary) and have added some Gilles and Evotech parts as well as an Akra link pipe and end can. Looking forward to this series! I once bought an ex demo 1991 Benetton black and pink CBR 600 that the dealer had picked up at Caldwell park. They did a full track day on it from 0 miles and then it was ragged silly ad a demo bike for a few months before they sold it on. I put it on the TTS dyno when it had over 8000 miles on it and it was putting out just over 100 bhp in totally standard trim and exhaust. The guys at TTS even said at the time that it was a fit motor…

Grand to spend I’d go for; Gearing. -1 on the front maybe a +2 & +4 for the rear.. swap and change see what’s good for each track. Rear shock. Spring for my weight and set sag. Front forks. Nothing at first just set up clickers. Then springs if needed. Brakes. Better pads. Dot 5.1 fluid if not already. Maybe a master cylinder if in budget. Power. De-cat link pipe and dyno tune. That’ll do at first.

Can't wait to see this play out. It will be great to see the journey that some many privateers and club races take from the more professionally produced content. I did the exact same thing when I bought a 2015 R1M (first in Western Australia, maybe Australia) and at that time there were no aftermarket parts available. After months of waiting and trying to grin and bear with a few areas that needed upgrading the first few that become clear as you guys are more that aware of no doubt. 1. OEM master cylinder = fade aka cack > Brembo RCS19. 2. OEM front pads = Chocolate Teapot > SBS Carbon sintered pads. 3. OEM suspension = Like nustling in to singer Lizzo > KTech DDS front and rear + KTech front for extensions. 4. ABS = That annoying little kid that somehow walks into you're fist everytime they speak > I went with the FTECU ABS delete plug and removed the unit. 5. OEM brake lines = leftover spaghetti > Core moto brake lines all round. 6. OEM dash > needs a protector, I went though 4 of them... the only bonus is that it resets the milage 😬. 7. OEM rims = Expensive from Yamaha > GYTR are the same rims but cheaper. 8. OEM 525 chain and sprockets = Like you had a night on the nose beers and you come home all pumped up and full of beans, ready to go to town on you're missus but you look down, look back up at you're missus and she's asks if you're ok.. it looks like the poor old fella's had the life drained out of him. > Renthal 520 all round. 9. OEM air filter = asthma > MWR superbike filter. 10. OEM front and rear fairing subframes = expensive to replace. > Motoholders subframes from and rear with front Ram air tube. 11. OEM exhaust = A full colostomy bag > I went with the Arrow Ti Competition Evo. But really you could go for just a decent link pipe as the headers and can are titanium.

Truth be told what they say at the beginning is not true, if you have the money ANY of those manufactures will sell you bikes and parts. Honda Advertises a 90,000 Race Ready Type R... Yamaha a Race Ready, Non road legal, can never be legally tagged and rego'd can be bought from them.. BMW too. Subaru even sells RALLY ready chassis.
@afletra
@afletra Жыл бұрын
@@crisnmaryfam7344 I bet they're fully aware that almost every manufacture can sell you race parts or race bike if you got money, but as they said, currently yamaha is arguably the most effort in consumer facing with their GYTR programme. you can choose from the most basic parts or package with relatively affordable cost for track day use to the most expensive parts/package for comprtition. you can see all of these on their website, I never find it on the other manufactures. the CRESCENT shop even sell a fully build option for all these R-Series ready to race.

Chris, you are 100% correct about the A272 being ruined by the average speed cameras - I used to love that road - there are very few side roads (where the real risks reside), it's a lovely flowing road, which, when I lived in the area, I knew every ripple, grid cover and pothole on. Revisting it, with everyone pottering along at 50mph, it's just wasted now :(

You will need deep pockets if your after any engine performance upgrades from GYTR, the kit ecu is around £1600 which will allow you to run GYTR cams at about £1200 per camshaft and the other goodies like pistons, crankshaft and the overpriced velocity stacks. If i was to spend £1000 on upgrades, i would opt for the Woolich racing ecu flash and a dyno tune along side a race air filter and a cheap decat exhaust, it will get you to around 190 rwhp.
@Lampislife
@Lampislife Жыл бұрын
Another point along with Chris' dialogue on setting up the ergonomics of the bike to your most comfortable position. It will often be the case that you need to adjust the suspension to your weight and riding style. Especially with a brand new bike you'll get it to settle a little over time. I remember my bike new being super stiff, I loosened it up and over time I had to increase stiffness to get the same riding feel.

15 r1. I have 41,000 on the clock and the only thing that has failed on me was the thermostat and the geared motor that actuates the funnels. But it still goes like stink. Oil change every 3 months. Spark plugs, etc. and even the 25,000 mile service, and the bike feels great. When I first got it, it was ham fisted. There’s no need to be that gentile when you buy them new.

Man I am looking forward to this as a R1 owner. My personal opinion is as follows; For best bang for buck ditch the abs as soon as possible, even if you just pull the fuse. Fit brembo calipers. Get it decatted and mapped. Get the webbing removed from swingarm so you can run the wheelbase as long as possible. See my vids for how to mod the swingarm 😉 Then the rest is just depends on how deep your pockets are

Back in the day (1970's, 80's ) I always thought that a bike that was too "mothered" during break-in / running in, would generally be poor on acceleration and top speed later in life. We didn't have an easy way of measuring Horse-power or output back then. This was an important issue to those not able to afford brand new machines (and back then things were tight!). It was a case of hoping that the owner at new had opened it up, but done so carefully, and not THRASHED it or even done this from cold, during this delicate period in the engines life. Once I could afford new bikes I ALLWAYS gave them more revs (than recommended) and varied engine revs greatly during the period after the first 250miles and over. I always got good performance as a result and never got even close to an engine seizure. I think your attitude on the new R1 about right, you are a bit heavier on the right wrist than me but hell the tolerances these days are SO well machined that these engines probably hardly need a run-in period?

This is what I was told, by a race engine builder (who balanced and honed my R1 engine)... to brake an engine in properly...you do the following (this was divulged to me by a high performance race engine builder). Your first 20 miles...go out in 2nd gear only (so you don't break the speed limit by too much 🤣) and accelerate relatively easy up to about 85% of the RPM Range and then let the engine coast back down to idle RPM (using all engine braking only) and repeat over, and over, and over for the 1st twenty miles. After that, ride her normally for the remainder of the 1st 600 miles (using regular oil), then do an oil change to synthetic and you are golden.

its all about aero with the modern bikes, but no one seems to have any aerodynamics for cooling from directed airflow, if your breaking is suffering, keep them cool with a nice blast of wind, idk most front brakes have that big ol barrier from the forks, is there anything you can 3d print that will take more air past the calipers, or even some well placed winglets like on the trailing edge of a 747s wing, they have little winglets so it spirals the air away, you could use that kind of motion to direct air from the mudguards

What happened to it? I've read stories about them going bang often.

@@anabolic8097 the "fingers" that lock 5th gear into place basically sheared off the side of the gear. Main problem with that is the fact that you can't just get one single gear and slide it onto the gear shaft. Because of supply chain issues (yes still) in canada where I'm from you basically are only able to purchase a full gearset which is about $2000. So not engine related but still a major breakdown, I haven't even looked at the bike since october

5:37 I'm pretty damn sure that's EXACTLY what BMW do with their HP or now knowns as M-Parts, that said they're definitely not on the same level as GYTR so it's definitely a good choice, looking forward to what you guys can do with it, I think it'd be good to keep riding the bike stock until your performance plateaus so it's not actually you getting faster but the bike.

Alpha Racing is the equivalent of GYTR for BMW, though it's not readily available in the UK. Feels like BvG has fallen out with BMW.

Very nice. Think I'm going to enjoy this series. I wonder if you could use another bike as a sort of alternative? Like how much faster can you get with a new bike/tech and add-ons? Not sure if that is feasable. I guess it depends on what other bikes you have laying about. I guess you could just compare lap times you've done in the past?

@@FortyFourTeeth Not if you insist on telling lies about race ready bikes being able to be purchased from manufactures. BMW Ducati, Honda Yamaha Subaru Nissan take your pick all sell a race ready version.

Damn what a smart idea for a video series. Too bad you blew the suspension before it even turned the clock. Doubt you will get much for $1000 in the GYTR catologue. Maybe the next one you can do a really budget race bike with aftermarket parts. Looking forward to this series!
