I want to thank Honda personally for making this bike. We don't need 600 grams shaving off crankshafts, radar-guided sidestands and winglets for £22,000. “It’s 155 hp it’s not gonna rip your balls off” ….growing up the vmax had something like 118 hp and we’d sht our pants just with the idea of riding one. Now 150+ hp not cutting it.. who would have thought that back then.
@siraff4461Күн бұрын
Chassis, brakes, suspension and tyres are in a different world now. I remember back then using tyres that felt like plastic, brakes which needed your whole hand and all your strength, clutches which made you a real man (even if you were a woman) and frames/suspension that were more like a bouncy/bendy suggestion than actually useful for getting grip/control. On top of that its 155hp is at 11,000rpm and it doesn't even make its peak torque until 9,000rpm while older bikes tended to have similar torque but at lower rpm - so they pushed just as hard but for less time.

I was thinking the same, I absolutely shit my balls on small roads like the ones in the video when giving the beans to my 97hp GSR600. I also remember trying 10 odd years ago a GSXR750 with 150hp and that felt like going warp speed on the street.

For all those who moan about 180 rear tyres being too small, a quick walk past 500 bikes at a BSB race should prove most road riders only use 80% of width & only a fool would ruin a sweet steering front end with a hard to turn fat rear tyre. Also 155bhp radial calipers T/C and sub 10 grand is beyond any time warp beating spec. As for wooden brakes do what most real world riders do, quality branded sintered pads and braided lines

Considering you can get a very nice aftermarket master, hoses and fitting for a few hundred quid its worth looking into if it botheres you. I have a feeling decent sintered pads, lines and fluid may well be enough anyway. @@LeoNidasPlayForFun This Hornet is only 8lb of torque up on that and needs to get to 9000rpm to make it. From 10% more engine. Don't let peak power figures fool you. When you crack the throttle in the appropriate gear there isn't going to be much in it until the Hornet can run through its entire rpm range. Its also slightly heavier than your blade and has no aerodynamics to speak of - not that the old blades were much good in that department - but the Hornet is still going to lose out as speeds get very high. @@ianclose123 MT10 is thirsty but a lot of that is the hooning around it was built for 🤣. You can get reasonable mpg out of it but you'd need the riding temperament of a Saint! Would have thought the same goes for the hornet to be fair with it fireblade derrived engine & short gearing 👍

I’d argue handling wise this might have the MT10 beat, simply because the MT10 has less front end feel due to the more upright ergonomics and longer nose feel, and the Hornet SP has much better suspension and brakes when compared to the base MT10 while still costing a few grand less… yeah it lacks an IMU but 99% of riders will never be able to even maximize the potential of an IMU, or of these bikes for that matter. In terms of power, there’s a 3 hp difference between the Hornet and MT10. Absolutely negligible real world… performance per $ spent the Hornet is now the class leader…

Great Review. Reminds me of my old Hornet 900. The fact that it had an older FireBlade engine was the main reason I bought it. Usually means there already is a vast catalogue of parts readily available for it. Not that you ever needed them but it was nice to know. Also meant I could do some funky Frankenstein shit with the gearing. We swapped it out with a '98 FireBlade's gearbox, did some tweaks to the fuelling and exhaust and it flew (Fly Screen Recommended!!!) Again it didn't need these mods for general use as it was great already. An amazing all rounder that you could ride all day and still have a ton of fun. Then came the CB1000R... Not the first few gens... Skip those ugly fuckers... I mean the Neo Cafe Sports versions, beautiful but expensive and heavy. I actually preferred the smaller CB650R and I still have it. Rider aids are getting better but you still get that kick in the foot from the rear brake pedal when the bike senses just the slightest bit of lock. TC is very noticeable, I too was asking how to turn it off frequently but I am glad it still allows me to lift the front up easily. Looking at you Yamaha!!! My only gripe is the modern styling. I do still prefer the traditional round headlight look and it is really a shame that the CB R range is more expensive. What used to be the budget range is now premium. It's all backwards.

Brembos but no braided hoses = Easy upgrade to improve feel?

It needs a master cylinder really

Hoses are braided. They use an internal braid - they always have. Why are stainless lines used? They disperse heat better. You will not get better feel from a different line - that's an old wives tale :) Infact see if you can measure the expansion on the OEM line with a micrometer. No pressure to full two handed squeeze no measurable difference from when I did it hence I know now. When people change lines, they also refresh and bleed the fluid - this is what gives you a better feel. MC on the other hand - massive difference.

Loved the vid as always fagan. Ive got an '18 CB1000R which is almost the same bike....is this a better bike?

I was really surprised how disinterested in this you all appeared at the last video when you talked about it, especially given the news segment about dealers shutting. If it's successful it's got the potential to force every other manufacturer to start building better, more realistic bikes. It really shows how fucked the media is when you're talking like 150+hp as being nothing special, it's what, 15hp down on a Blackbird? It's got more power than early superbikes. Media and manufacturers really need a reset with what people can actually afford to buy, insure, run and maintain on real roads.

I bought an MT09 SP this year. Am I going to be annoyed if I test-ride this?

I don’t think so, I love the CP3 motor in my tracer. I’ve never been a lover of in-line four motors, apart from my 22MT10 of course.

How does it compare to a mt10?

I think Honda are making the best standard sounding 4cylinder these days, the stock exhaust lets it down looks wise but it’s been made clearly to be possible to change which is great. So sub £11k with a nice slip on exhaust and the blipper and it would be bang on

Quick shifter has Hard/Medium/Soft settings for up and down separately, but they cheaped out on cruise control? Honda hates my right hand.
