Not often you get praised for a rulebook you have worked on. Thanks from all of us on the the creative team who worked on the rules.

Just the “his” to sort out for next time. About 2 hours work to go through and fix it all, well worth it.

Great video Paul, really enjoy your series...watching your video over my Saturday morning coffee and thinking I need to find the time to get this one off the shelf and unboxed! Sounds like this is on par, or even better than Castles which we really enjoyed, so really looking forward to giving it a go! Cheers!

Passing right seemed odd at first but it is a nice touch as it means the passed tile goes to the player playing before you (unless you are first player). This adds an extra consideration and might be interesting to use in other games.

Glad to see you distinguish between variability and replayability. Lots of reviewers (and designers) seem to think they are the same thing. I agree that variability tends to increase replayability generally, but it isn't enough (and is sometimes a crutch to make up for a bland game). I've only played this game once (4p) and really liked it, looking forward to playing it 2p with my daughter after Xmas. - but Trajan is still king 😉 good review Paul
@GamingRulesVideos6 жыл бұрын
I don’t think they are the same thing, but they are connected. Caylus has very little variability but huge replayability for example. But if a game like this, or Pulsar 2849 for example was always the same cards with the same techs, and the same scoring conditions, games would end up being more samey.

And I thought I'm the only guy who really liked this game. It gets terrible reviews in Poland, but I have no idea why. This game feels like it was designed alongside Trajan and Bora Bora. My current Feld ranking goes like this: 9/10 1. Trajan 2. Bora Bora 3. The Castles of Burgundy 4. Luna -------------------------- 8/10 5. In the Year of the Dragon 6. Forum Trajanum 7. Rialto 8. The Oracle of Delphi ________________ 7/10 9. Macao 10. Amerigo _______________ 6/10 11. Aquasphere 12. La Isla 13. The Name of the Rose _________________ 5/10 14. Notre Dame

I agree with your top 4, but Notre Dame last! Strasbourg is worth tracking down, it has really grown on me over time. Actually played half a dozen times last year with lots of new players. Best at higher player numbers but good at all counts (the 2 dummy variant for 2 works well). It is one of those games that generates a lot of laughs and head in hands moments, a really fun game.
@Mono_80806 жыл бұрын
@@bushibayushi if you don't mind to get the French version, it is quite easy to find in Europe (philibert). I bought the French version not knowing much of French and it works really well for me and my friends. After a couple play you'll memorize what cards do and you'll see that language is not a big issue in this game in my opinion.

Thanks Paul. Great review Now that it’s been out a few years, how does it rank now among Feld games? 🤔
@DaraTeaches6 жыл бұрын
I love Feld games, but I don't really like the point salad stuff. Macao, In The Year of the Dragon, and the Speicherstadt top my list. This one at least seems less point salad-y than some of the others though, since you're not constantly and immediately rewarded for every action. I'd certainly give it a try. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for another great video. I love your enthusiasm and effort in all your videos. Just curious, if Stefan Feld is among your top three game designers, who are the other two?
@GamingRulesVideos6 жыл бұрын
Vlaada is easily up there, although we haven’t seen anything big from him in a few years (not counting Codenames), but probably Alexander Pfister maybe. But it’s hard to say sometimes exactly, but Feld would be in my top 3 if I did a proper list.
