Cheers Paul, great video as always. I haven't even got Nusfjord yet, but when I do I'll definitely be using your house rule - it makes so much sense.

After our conversation about the house rule at HandyCon I ended up playing another game of Nusfjord on the Sunday - so we gave your change a try. Worked well, think I'll stick with using it too.

I love the idea of putting C cards out at the start. I tend to use every single house rule you suggest. Thanks!

Looks like this one is out of print. Have you heard anything about a reprint? I read that there most likely will not be a re-print because there hasn’t been enough demand for it.

I'm sure the designer explored bringing out the C cards earlier in the game, but since designers make tweaks and modifications to the rules after testing the game hundreds of times, I can only assume that the C cards coming out in the 4th round are a response to that and it's only after playing the game many, many times will the reason for delaying the C cards become apparent to players. It could be that some C cards are quite strong if a player is allowed to focus on them from the start of the game and bring them into full fruition with the right buildings (especially in the other more advanced decks). It would be interesting to hear Uwe's take on it.

I like that house rule. This is why I dislike "events" in games, as it typically randomly rains hard on some, and not so bad on others.

Yep. See my recent review on Reykholt for me opinion on the event cards included in that game.

What you just explained with those C cards is why I don't like Wingspan. Those end game bird cards can be drawn "pre-completed".

Would you mix the different decks together, still keeping A, B, C? What is the difference between the decks?
@GamingRulesVideos
@GamingRulesVideos 4 жыл бұрын
The rules say you should not mix the decks. They are designed to be played individually. Otherwise, you will get some weird mixes.

So at end of each round, players can draft 1 of Building C type cards amongst themselves.

I've not played the game for years, so I can't quite remember what my rule was, but I think it was just having the C cards from the start, but not being able to play them until round 4.

If I already have Fields Of Arle and A Feast For Odin, do I "need" Nusfjord"? Please say no :)
@GamingRulesVideos
@GamingRulesVideos 6 жыл бұрын
This is one of those things... Some people think that you don't need two Uwe games as they are so similar. People say the same with Feld games. Me... I have about 15 Feld Games and most Uwe games. The only reason I don't have FoA is that two friends who live near me both have it. This is a very different game IMO, lighter, quicker. I'd never tell anyone that you "need" it. And I know people who really love other Uwe games and were not keen on this one.
@JonathanA
@JonathanA 6 жыл бұрын
I guess that's the key point - "very different game". I know I resisted Feast for a long time because I had Arle, but I love both of them. Guess Nusfjord will just have to get added to the wish list! BTW, thanks for all your videos - always must watch, no matter what you're doing in them.

I've only played the game once, it reminded me of "Glass Road" but without the dials, the player boards work similar to that of "Glass Road", the rest of the mechanics are quite different though. I liked it, I didn't see a problem with the C cards coming out when they did, but it was a learning game. It is very different to A Feast of Odin, I am very tempted to pick this up myself (I'm hoping that someone in my gaming group does so instead), To know this plays quickly solo is bonus, I don't often play games solo though the only one I really like solo is A Feast of Odin. Thanks for the review Paul :-)

In a Nutshell: Nusfjord is very Rosenberg-ish, but plays faster than its older brothers. So if you want a quicker gameplay you might want to have a look. Personally, after two games, I found it rather bland and unthematic so I I decided to skip it.

Got to disagree with the need for any C cards house rule. Sometimes you get useful Cs; sometimes you don't. Sometimes people drop C cards in round 6 that you can use; sometimes people "panic build" the cards rather than let you get them. Some C cards ARE big and powerful. But many are not. And I have yet to see a game where it mattered at all what cards people were dealt. What matters is that players take good decisions, irrespective of what C cards they might or might not get. If you get C cards that fit in with what you're doing, great (that was probably a good plan anyway). But if you get cards you can't use, that's fine too - you should just get on and earn points in some other way. FWIW, I have won games with 3 C buildings built - ALL of them were dealt to other players), and won games where I could not make use of any of the C buildings that I picked up. My main issues with the graphic design are the coin size that you noted (they should have been wooden disc IMO), and the fact that the VP stars on building cards are TINY. Both should have been much larger. But those gripes aside, this is a great game. One of his best (and I'm struggling to decide whether I like this more, or Fields of Arle).

I really didn't like the wall of text on the cards. Nor is it as great as Uwe's bigger games, such as Feast for Odin, Ora et Labora or Le Havre. A bit of a miss from Uwe this time I feel, perhaps Reykholt is going to be better. :)
