Another great video; thank you. One issue I have is that I frequently use Cmd/+ to increase the content when editing JPEGs. However, I often hit the Delete key by accident (as it's right next to the + key), thus deleting the file! Is there a way of avoiding this, such as changing the key combinations for either increasing or deleting? Thank you!

Another way to delete text is to place cursor at the beginning of what you want to delete, then hold the shift key and move the cursor to the end of what you want to delete. This highlights the selected text. Then hit delete key to delete the chosen text.

Is it possible to assign CMD + Delete or Opt + Delete to forward delete? So that to forward delete can be done with one hand instead of pressing Fn + Delete?
@macmost4 ай бұрын
No. But if you must then Use Control+D instead? Or, just Shift+forward arrow to select, then Delete. Or, forward arrow to move forward and then Delete to delete? Lots of options for doing it with one hand.

Thanks to this channel, I'm now moving away from the window and won't administer defenestration...yet. :p I really do miss scrolling one page at a time with a mouse wheel though, just so natural and easy on the body. :(

@@mup_pet Scrolling with two fingers doesn't work? Should work with two fingers, or even one. Don't "click down" just move your finger(s) over the top.
@mup_pet5 ай бұрын
@@macmost Ah, maybe there's a misunderstanding. I can scroll like that, but what I miss is the wheel. I used to set it up so one click of the wheel scrolled one page. It was so effortless. @@mup_pet I mean you can still get a third-party mouse with a wheel and use their software or other apps to customize it to do that if you really want. You can also use keys on your keyboard to Page Up and Page Down.

How can I stop the Mac Keyboard from deleting whole sentences? I accidentally touch some key and the whole sentence disappears never to return. What can I turn off?
@macmost5 ай бұрын
Hard to say without knowing what you press. Command+Delete will do something like that, but that's hard to do accidentally. And remember if you do make a mistake like that, there is always Command+z to undo. So there is no "never to return."

Appreciate your channel! Much useful information. Don't like "shorts" because one can't comment on them. Question: Isn't one of the features of iOS 16 a greater ability for Apple to spy on the user. Or is that just internet disinfo? Keep up the good work!
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
You can. I have several comment for the one from yesterday. Maybe you need to look at it in a web browser, not the app? I don't know what you mean by this. Where did you read that? Tons of privacy features already in iOS 15 and more in iOS 16.

@@macmost The Center for Democracy and Technology’s director, Greg Nojeim said: “Apple is replacing its industry-standard end-to-end encrypted messaging system with an infrastructure for surveillance and censorship, which will be vulnerable to abuse and scope-creep not only in the U.S., but around the world.”

@@AdrianIII You are talking about the whole CSAM things from back in 2021. That was an idea by Apple to use hashes to detect CSAM in iCloud photos. Google and others already do this in a much more intrusive way. Apple came up with a way to protect privacy while doing this using hashes. Tons written about this so I won't rehash this 2021 topic here. 9to5mac.com/guides/csam/ But currently Apple isn't moving forward with this and it isn't part of iOS 16.

I have been unsuccessful in finding a single key option to delete a file that is being viewed by using the space bar. I can do it with Command - Delete but this is very cumbersome after an hour or so. (I am removing certain jpg files from a video dump of the frames because mostly every 3rd and 5th files have been duplicated by a telecine process. My hands get very tired after 6000 pictures!)
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
First, I would turn on View. Show Preview so you can see the preview on the right side of the window instead of using Quick Look. Now in List or Column view you can just use the arrow keys to move through the images. Command+Delete is the way to delete them, it is just two keys. Anything else you would do would take more work than that (like dragging to the trash or moving to a folder).
@davidnoble14852 жыл бұрын
@@macmost Thanks for confirming my findings. I am doing exactly as you suggest but have to hit the space bar for the enlarged view. It is hard to catch th duplicates as there are 25 pictures for each second of video. It is just so uncomfortable to hold that position for hours at a time.
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
@@davidnoble1485 A few things that may help. First, if you use View, Show Preview you can drag the line between the preview area and the main Finder window area to increase the size of the preview, so you don't need to use Quick Look, maybe. If you do use Quick Look note you don't have to use spacebar more than once. Just open Quick Look and don't close it. As you use arrows and Command+Delete the Quick Look window will remain. You could also do this all with your trackpad or mouse, clicking on files to select and see them in Quick Look or Finder preview, and then dragging them to the trash.

So I think the biggest confusion is why they label that key delete, but have different behavior. The key should just be called backspace like it is on every other keyboard made for Windows machines.
@macmost2 жыл бұрын
I can't speak for Apple, but it would be weird to use a "Backspace" key to do things like delete sections of an image, files, objects, items from a list, etc.
@lylewaters61612 жыл бұрын
@@macmost yeah so that’s why you also have a delete key in the navigation section of the keyboard. The delete key is for deleting things (that are selected) and the backspace key is for backspacing over (and therefore erasing/deleting anything in the path). I’m a Mac user for the past 10 or so years and I’ve never understood this whole need for calling something forward delete and delete. The vast majority of computer users in the world are still Windows (or non Mac users) and they don’t seem to have this whole backspace/delete key issue.
