We asked three of our long-time Forza players and tuning experts -- HokiHoshi, PTG Jamie, and VuKKuu -- to break down car customization to its fundamentals and show us how to get ready for rally racing in our latest expansion, Forza Horizon 5 Rally Adventure.
While the 2006 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX MR is used here as an example, these tips for upgrading and tuning your car can help you learn how to transform the car of your choice into something that's ready to take on the rugged roads of Sierra Nueva in Forza Horizon 5 Rally Adventure, available now.

Great advice and tune by HokiHoshi, PTG Jamie, and VuKKuu! Took the upgrades (recommended by HokiHoshi) & values in the tuning window (shown by Jamie) to recreate the A-Class 06 Evo 8. Driving with a full racing rim rig is awesome. Car is very planted and is able to power out of corners without any oversteer. Handbrake drifts are tight and quick. Used the tuning values and applied to B-Class cars and tested them at Lago Azulado in Autumn. Here are the results (4 race average): - 2006 Evo 8 (Stock engine, rally tires) ------ 2.43.221 - 2006 Evo 8 (Stock engine, Off road tires): ------ 2.35.445 - 2008 Evo X (Stock engine, Off road tires): ------ 2.35.489 - 2004 Subaru WRX STI (Stock engine, Off road tires): ------ 2.34.255 - 98 Toyota Supra (Stock engine, Off road tires, RWD): ------ 2.41.546 - 98 Toyota Supra (Stock engine, Off road tires, AWD): ------ 2.35.759 - 1983 Audi Quattro (Stock engine, Off road tires): ------ 2.37.154 Summary: Offroad tires are much better than rally tires on full dirt races; more grip in corners and also provides more force feedback in the steering wheel. The Evo 8 and Evo X performs almost identical but has very different driving characteristics. Evo 8 tends to understeer more but is less twitchy. Evo X slides more in sweeping corners; I guess due to its heavier weight. RWD Toyota Supra oversteers during corner exit but can be reduced with proper throttle control. AWD Supra suffers the same issue with the Evo X due to its >1.5 ton weight. The grand daddy of rally, Audi Quattro is very twitchy in corners with a lot of weird oversteer and unwanted power sliding. It seems bad, but all these can be tuned out, so no biggie. The 04 STI is the best performer and the most fun to drive especially between 32% and 41% of the race. The rear kicks out just nice to angle the car in the right direction. The Subaru corners beautifully and accelerates out of bends quickly. I guess in this scenario, the subbie, with its 2.5 litre gasket blowing turbocharged powerplant takes the win! Huge thanks again to Forza, HokiHoshi, PTG Jamie, and VuKKuu! I wouldn't have this amount of fun without you guys!

just pointing out some of the misinformation in this video: 1.6 turbo rally is one of the least efficient engines in the game. never use it if you have better options never use rally tires for dirt racing in this game. always use offroad you don't need to use telemetry for tire pressure. always go minimum for dirt surface and use around 1.5 (21psi) for rally tires using tire temperature to adjust camber does not work in this game negative toe is never used, maximum caster is always the best you need extremely stiff anti-roll bar settings in this game, especially in the rear front and rear damping settings hardly differ (tip: 3 bump and 12 rebound is a great starting point for 80% of the cars) keep in mind brake balance is inverted in the menu high dif accel values rarely result in loss of grip in this game overall very poorly made video. maybe next time ask people who actually play the game and know how it works

They said that off-road tires are good for, well, off-roading, but chose rally tires because the track they were tuning for had a non-insignificant amount of asphalt. Also, I use toe in for rear wheel drive cars, not a lot, but it absolutely makes a difference stability wise.

We understand people love to keep traditional motors in their cars, but for squeezing the most out of the cars based on physics (weight/power ratios) etc, sometimes it’s necessary.
@Saeenu
@Saeenu Жыл бұрын
@@vukkuu if you wanted to engine swap to something more powerful and PI efficient than the default engine on this Evo, the 6.2L V8 (Chevy LS3) with a Centrifugal Supercharger swap would have made more sense, as that is generally considered one of the meta engine swaps in the game, due to it's good PI efficiency (relatively high power and torque figures for the given PI). The centrifugal supercharger is also the most PI efficient engine upgrade for any engine that has it as an option, as it allows you to add more power per PI cost than any other type of engine upgrade. The 1.6 Turbo Rally i4 is one of the worst engine swaps in the game in terms of PI efficiency (outside of edge cases like FWD powerbuilds usually). Even the default motor (Mitsubishi 4G63) would have been a far better choice in PI efficiency than the Turbo Rally swap , which would allow you to fit more power within the given PI target than that engine for better performance. Generally the 4G63's in Forza are not bad in PI efficiency in themselves, so you are only unnecessary shooting yourself in the foot here by swapping to an engine with significantly worse PI efficiency overall.

Until now, I have made cars specifically for either dirt or road, but this video inspired me to make one car that is balanced for both. Is there any way to race against other players online in events that can have completely random tracks (tarmac, dirt, mixed) but at only one specified class level? It would be a handicap to race a balanced car against cars that specialize in dirt or tarmac.

Is it just me or did Jamie add absolutely NO value or insight to this discussion? Everything he said was regurgitated from Hoki or the stupid notes on the side bars of the tuning menu. I would've liked to hear how more demanding suspensions are needed for the rally adventure and how to achieve optimum results. Maybe how aero is more important at least on roads in the rally expansion. How handling builds are much more "meta" here vs. the mainland and what you need to change. PTG Jamie, if you're listening, please reply with one original useful tuning insight that you didn't copy from someone else. I'm all ears.

I like HokiHoshi as a person and I appreciate what he's going for with his videos (builds that are closer to being ideal for IRL racing), but I do think he's giving subjectively "bad" upgrade advice to beginners IMO. Here are my thoughts about the chosen upgrades I disagree with: 1) The 1.6L I4 Turbo Rally engine is one of those swaps that should only ever be a "last resort" if no other engine swaps are available. Instead, the other engine swap this car has is the most OP engine swap in FH5 - the 6.2L V8 - which will serve beginners much better and allow them to beat Drivatars or win online more easily than the Turbo Rally engine. 2) Don't use rally tires for rally racing, especially not for B or A class. This is Forza, not real life. We use Off-Road tires only for dirt and CC. 3) Never, ever increase front tire width as it is a big waste of PI. 4) Always get maxed out rear track width, as it's free and is meta. Consider maxing out front track width as well for a cost of 1 PI, although some might prefer having a teensy bit more power instead. Some cars allow max front track width for basically free, in which case there's no reason not to get it. 5) Don't ever upgrade the clutch, unless the first clutch upgrade is free. This is true even for automatic drivers. You will still be faster with more engine upgrades instead. 6) Beginners only need a sport transmission rather than a racing transmission to adjust the Final Drive, but it's generally meta to go for the sport transmission regardless anyway. Sometimes the sport transmission even lowers your PI, bizarrely enough. 7) Don't get upgraded brakes unless your car absolutely needs them. For B and A class dirt especially, your car shouldn't need them unless your vehicle is just super weighty or something (in which case it's gonna be hard for beginners to race on dirt tracks anyway). That's just the upgrades side. For tuning, I suggest watching SP4's video, which although dated is still a pretty good rule of thumb and will definitely get you started on the path to having fast tunes. He's planning to make a more in-depth tuning video before long so be look on the lookout for that as well. Just remember that Forza is not real life racing, and thus beating Unbeatable drivatars or winning online requires tunes that are more "game-y" and suited to Forza than ones that are suited to real life racing.

Grip. For FWD it's very competitive up to B Class but in A Class you may find some issues with Acceleration due to having a lot of power. For RWD you'll find Classic Muscle is often the best due to having larger rear tires than most cars. Otherwise Forza Aero is quite helpful to prevent too much sliding in both and aiding turn-in. Main thing though is just keeping on top of throttle control. With FWD you need to pay attention when accelerating out of corners as the car will go in the direction the wheels are pointing in. For RWD you're going to be wanting to stay on top of the throttle basically everywhere and be mindful of the tail swinging out mid-corner. Especially if it's a Mid/Rear Engine Car due to the Weight. Don't worry much about the engine swap, only if it has a F4, the 3.2L I6 or the 6.2L V8 should you be immediately concerned about a swap.

As much as I like and respect Hoki, I'd suggest offroad tires are far better for any surfaces not 100% tarmac. Also, brake upgrades on A Class rally builds are not an efficient use of PI. Take the combined PI savings of using offroads vs. rallies and stock brakes vs. upgraded brakes and reallocate them towards weight reduction first and then power if you want a more competitive build.

Worst part of this expansion is that annoying helicopter that blows up dirt infront of you + the sound it makes. Who thought this was a good idea?

these people dont know anything when it comes to tuning cars for dirt i4 turbo rally is one of the worst engine swaps in the game, front and rear aero is always needed, front tire width should never be used on any tune, offroad race tires are always better simply because you can fit more power, and clutch and race transmission are usless (sport is always better) the list goes on with how bad these tunes are

As somebody that makes a lot of their own builds, tunes and uploads them for others to use, a lot of this info is really incorrect. The rally engine is horribly PI efficient, the stock 4G63T has better powerband and PI potential. Off road tires are the only option for anything off tarmac, dirt or cross country racing. Rally tires are not good for most off road surfaces and are actually better suited as tarmac tires. The tuning settings are really out of the scope of what works with the game physics as well, 15psi for off road tires and 21 for rally tires works best and it’s been proven. All the camber, toe adjustments are counter productive as well. I get y’all want to help others with the tuning of FH5, but I’m really disappointed you didn’t reach out to those that make lots of tunes and builds and understand the strange physics the best for this video.

@@vukkuu I literally don't. I understand the wonky physics FH has always had, I build and tune my cars to not just be quick, but as quick, easy to drive all around builds, most of them are purist builds as well. There is so many dos and don'ts when it comes to parts to use in a build for the game.
