An additional fun fact. At the time of when the lotus/vauxhall carlton was released. In the papers that had all of the top speeds of the best cars back then, all of the cars said things kind of like 153mph, 147mph. But the lotus carlton just straight up was like,"You guys are so slow" and on the paper just said, 175+. It was that fast it didn't even have a specified top speed.

Vauxhall shared the Lotus Carlton platform with chevrolet, in Brazil this car is known as Chevrolet Omega, this is a very popular car in Brazil, it is a normal sedan with several utilities. He is also very popular in his wagon version, which is called the Suprema. Both models come with 2 I6 options, an I6 4.1 and an I6 3.0. I didn't find much about the car. But I did what I could.

Another fun fact is they put tubes in the turbos to restrict airflow, removing those tubes would give it close to another 200 bhp.. a friend of mine then went on and got what he claims was 190+ mph out of it on the m4.

The coolest thing about the Carlton is the story of 40RA. A group of robbers used the car and the story goes they once outran a police helicopter along a motorway. They were even that confident they robbed a store a few buildings down from the police station because cops would often buy newspapers there

My parents had 2 Carlton's when when I was growing up. In the back there was leg room for days, the leather ran smooth and all the switches were huge. I love them!

My dad had one of these in the 90s. His one was imported from gurmany and was an Opel lotus Carlton making it a left hand drive car. Was so fast and you used beat all the motorbikes back in the day. I’m in the uk and are a few for sale but now you are talking over £100,000 to buy. My dad bought us for only 19k back then. I wish he still had it but he sold it to someone for their 40th birthday.

Normally I would agree, but for some reason Forza likes to limit the performance of stock engines...That Lotus engine is good for 1000hp IRL but limited to below 700hp in game. Go figure xD

A few more fun facts… The politicians in the Houses of Parliament tried to stop the sale of it as it was the car of choice for criminals and the police couldn’t keep up as the had metros. The most famous lotus Carlton was 40RA it was very well known to police. This car was leaving Ferraris in the dust at the time of production

No they got lotus to tune the car for the btcc series originally, they had to sell so many for it to comply with the production car rule before they could race.

@@WeAreThePeople1690 pretty sure that's not it. At the time, BMW with their 5-Series and Mercedes-Benz with their 500E models were the top of the fast and luxury saloons of the time. GM wanted a piece of that market pie, so their basis was the Vauxhall Carlton/Opel Omega. So many units were made (950 out of the 1,100 units), but this was due to sale struggles during the 1990's recession and the car was priced too high at the time, of a ridiculous price of £48,000. At the time, Opel did produce some 'Evolution' models for DTM which were meant to be a limited run of 500 as a homologation special. It looks very similar to the Lotus Carlton, but it was the same engine used in the Omega 500 what Lotus had used for the their version of the Super Saloon.
