The prep time is as enormous as the fossil. I admire your patience and the number of mistakes it took to get to the level of competence you achieve today. Rita and I were introduced to your KZbin channel through KatyDid. We enjoy your enthusiasm and weight you are able to carry up those steep banks.

great work! Very fascinating to watch the crab slowly emerge! I wish we could find those here but alas here you only find the odd bit of tooth or bone. Mine is a copy of the Chicago Pneumatic CP9361 made by a company called Suntech. I got mine off eBay for about $120 and it works really well. Haven't seen them on there again though. The original CP9361 with a tungsten stylus is a good place to start.

@MamlamboFossils

You can use the dremel but it has to be the engraver, not the one that rotates really fast. Mine is a Pneumatic air scribe and the model is a cp9361 from Chicago Pneumatic.

They take forever to prepare. I have one sitting on my desk that I've already invested 10 hours in and have exposed most of the top carapace and one leg on the side. Unfortunately with all the work I have going on I haven't had a lot of time to do any side prep work but hopefully I'll get some more free time soon because I really do miss prep work. Keep it up. That's looking great. I look at all my crabs often and can see spots where I can do more micro work. There's always something else you can do to make a fossil look even nice but sometimes that might mean compromising the integrity (structure) of the fossil so a lot of times I just tell myself, "Alright that's good enough."
@MamlamboFossils
@MamlamboFossils 4 жыл бұрын
I know what you mean, there is always more you can do when you look at the crab long enough! I'm wanting to get a Microjack 5 or 6 to get closer in but still be able to remove some matrix, just need to save up as they are rather pricey! I was playing around with a friend's Microjack 5 and it is amazing for detail work 😄

@@MamlamboFossils, I was just noticing how quickly you were wasting that matrix. I work with a type of claystone that shows up in nodular form in the glacial till up here in Holland, Michigan. Right now I'm simply slabbing the material on a 10" diamond saw, but I fancy carving it with rotary diamond tools, as well. Your tool impressed me, as I said, with the amount of material you could remove in a decent amount of time. Is that a siltstone matrix enclosing those crabs?
