Great finds! very excited to see how the claw will turn out, or the crab the colour on that one looks quite special. hi Mamlambo, some really nice find and that claw is huge so can't wait for the prep as it's gonna look totally claw-some :0) shame about the shark and I think it could be from the tiger shark family :0) well as least no sheep trying to go for a dip this time with is a good thing :0) i'm hoping in the next month or two to get out fossil hunting as hopefully we will be over the worst of covid 19 :0) anyway mate great vid and looking forward to the next one :0)

Thanks Robert! I wish that glue would harden quicker :D I was tempted to hide the shark somewhere and come back in a few months for those jaws. I thought it could have been a bronze whaler shark, but I'm not great at IDing sharks that aren't Great Whites :D Hope you get out soon!
@robertmartyr20414 жыл бұрын
good things come to those who wait as the glue has to harden but will be worth the wait :0) I had a look at tiger shark and its is out as the teeth are wrong, I had a look at the bronze whaler, copper, shark and the teeth don't have cusps at 3.06 you can see at least 2-3 cusps each side of the tooth and I think it could be a tope shark as I had a look at their teeth and they are quite similar :0) I know it sounds mean but you could have cut the head off, after a few months very little will be left but you could taxidermy the head or if it's too far gone just keep the jaws :0) me neither mate but google is good for finding things especially sharks :0) I hope so too and will get some pix but it could be weeks or months but at least it's something to look forward to :0) have a great day and on to the next adventure mate :0)

this might be a dumb question, but how do these animals end up encased? do you think they were alive and then caught in an avalanche of mud or something? or were they dead and gradually covered in sediment that hardened? for the condition that they are in, it would seem like a sudden event allowing them to be preserved in good shape. what do you think?
@MamlamboFossils4 жыл бұрын
These crabs live in mud / sediment from what I know. Perhaps some event caused many of them to be buried? New Zealand has many earthquakes so it is conceivable that a large earthquake caused a mudslide that buried a few million crabs. Otherwise, if I crab died, it would probably have been scavenged by other crabs and animals.
