One player doesn’t win baseball games like other sports. We’ve seen how the Angels turned out when they had Ohtani. You still need a bunch of great players on the team to be successful, and Ohtani’s contract certainly made easier for the Dodgers to get more good players in order to compete for championships. But if Soto doesn’t defer, I think it might be too hard for other teams to build a great team unless that owner is willing to go beyond his threshold to pay more money.

Sensible contract: 8yrs x 40M per season Desired contract: 14yrs x 49M per season SF Giants should sign Soto. They’re a gem of a franchise in need of a shot in the arm.

When the Blue Jays acquired Encarnacion, he was 25. His first full year with them, he was 26. That was 14 years ago. Bautista hit 54 hr. Just some perspective of how long it will feel when a 14 year deal would end.
@EddieHersh12 сағат бұрын
Giving any 26 year old player a 14 year contract is absolutely ridiculous and moronic. Is management insane? Does anyone remember how bad Albert Puhols was in the last few years of his mega contract? He was horrible and way overpaid.

I sure hope my dodgers don't try to actually sign Soto. We should just drive the cost up for whichever the team ultimately ends up getting him. 625 mil for 14 years, all up front, sounds beautiful to my years for any one of NYY, NYM, RedSox, or the Jays. run up their payroll, Scott Boras!!!! leave my dodgers alone!
@MikeD_19 сағат бұрын
Your team has already driven up the market. They did that with Ohtani, which is why Soto is going to get paid. Driving up Soto's price further will then in turn drive up the price for all the players the Dodgers will acquire in future years.

Wouldn't it be better for the Jays to try their best to keep BOTH of these guys in the same batting order? They would have a HUGELY DANGEROUS batting order if they could keep them both. Soto is going to one of the two teams in NY. To think differently is to fall into Boras's trap. He's building the market to get the most money for Soto.
@ZeuZLoD20 минут бұрын
It's going to come down to if he just wants the money now, or if he wants a higher chance of winning. I can totally see the Dodgers making a power play here and offering him a big time contract but with big deferrals in it to fit him in that lineup. You stick Soto in that lineup with Ohtani, Betts, Freeman and holy christ lol. Again though, how bad does he really want to win, or does he just want that big payday and could care less about actually winning a WS.
