Pirate! Sometimes you scare me. The second rifle you uncovered is a German Kar98k. It appears to possibly be a Russian refurbished rifle. Of note was the rifle is in the cocked position and safety lever (that flat piece of metal like a tab on the end of the bolt) set to ON at the 3 O'clock position. This is why you could not open the bolt. Moving the lever to the 12 O'clock position allows the bolt to be removed. Moving the lever to the 9 O'clock position means it is ready to fire with a pull of the trigger. Why some person would ever store this rifle in the cocked position with safety on is worrisome. I hope it didn't have a cartridge in the chamber...

The safety was on on that Mauser locking the bolt it was that tab you kept touching rotating it to the left should unlock it

That's a Mauser model 98 most likely. Don't know what country so I can't say what caliber it is. You lot need to learn A LOT more about guns. A lot. The safety is on that's why you you can't open the bolt. It does not just stop the rifle from going off, it more like a a lock that stops the action from being opened and the trigger from being pulled. Watch some firearms videos, please. That's not knife on the muzzle (front) it's a cleaning rod.

@@barrieerskine250 the first was a Winchester .22 cal. I do know my guns. The mauser most likely a 7mm an M1 Gerand is .308 cal.
