I bought a 1993 Ford Ranger XLT for $300 after a friend had wrenched on it and couldn't get it running. We went through all the usual stuff the first day, and could not make the truck run. In the last video we narrowed the issue down to a bad ECU after a massive amount of troubleshooting. I found a used one for $51 and ordered it immediately. We swapped it out, put a radio in it, fixed the rearview mirror, and the truck is ready to go on down the road!

I seen stereos like that before. Lets just leave the factory connector in and splice another one into it. The last one I ran into was a 93 s10 blazer that they stole the glove box light to provide the 12 on all the time. What they didn't know and I did. A hidden fuse fixed the correct wire. So they trashed the glove box light for no reason.

I just want to say thank you for making this series. My father and I were planning to fix his '93 XLT over the summer, which hasn't been driven for 5-6 years. Right now we know it's leaking coolant from the head gasket and the parking brake seizes up and won't let go (we have to use a chuck to park it on hills). But if we have similar issues getting it started again we can just reference your videoes! Cheers from the cheery midwest!

Guess that truck was not built for any kind of deep water. You get it up the wheel, that hole will sink that new ECU. Just don't take it off road at all. Having had three Rangers I am very partial to them. MY present one is a 2010 Ranger Sport Extended cab. I've seen the new version and wouldn't have one given to me! I'd be sold that thing before the engine got cold. If I'm going to have something almost as big as an F-150 then why not get an F-150? Ford's engineers must have really been having some serious anal moments when they came up with the idea for that thing. I started out with an '89, then bought a 2003 because it had the extended cab. When I heard that Ford was dropping the Ranger in 2011 I found an almost brand new 2010 so I could have one that would last me a long time. So far, it has been the best money I have ever spent. The 4.0 hardly notices the 4x8 utility trailer I pull a lot of times. When Hurricane Michael hit I did a lot of yard clearing for my neighbors as well as my own property, loading the debris and junk onto the 4x8 and it more than paid for itself in just a few days.
@derricklewis6724
@derricklewis6724 4 жыл бұрын
I'm pretty partial to Rangers too. I've had 4 vehicles so far in my life, a Ford E-250 that was never really used, then a 2003 Ranger which was not in the best condition when I got it, the hood wouldn't open (ended up cutting the cord and running it through the grill so it could be opened), the bed was falling apart so I took it off, drivers side door almost fell off every time you opened it, not to mention any mechanical problems but it lasted me quite awhile getting me to and from work until I took it off the road because I found a Dodge Dakota which seemed a lot better at the time. Somehow the clean Dakota didn't last me near as long, the rear end went and a couple different mechanics quoted me more than I paid for both truck combined to fix it. Instead I spent a lot more than any of the rest on a nice 2007 Ranger, lasted me the longest so far while also having no issues the entire time until I rolled it just a few weeks ago :/ 2wd which sucked in the winter but we got a sudden blizzard after I had taken the weight out since winter was supposed to be over, now I'm mostly looking at Rangers for a vehicle again.

there is a really dodgey connector in the third ground wire coming off of the battery ground cable "According to the factory repair manual, there should be three wires coming off of the negative cable. The main cable which connects to the frame, and then to the engine. A smaller cable (about 10ga), which connects to the front core support, as the body ground. The last wire has a plug about 6 inches down, and then goes into the harness, this wire goes to the computer.

Did you reset the fuel shutdown switch (inertia switch)? It's located on the passenger side. That darn thing gave me a headache after I hit a bump on the road and the truck had the same issues as this one. I betcha that was the issue.
