Rust on brake disks is perfectly fine. Hard braking every now and then will clean of the rust, but perhaps your EV is regenerating a lot, and doesn't use the brake pads that often. Thanks for all your content by the way

I wasn’t too concerned about the rust on the brakes. My bigger concern is the rust by the door. Maybe I need to hit the brakes more often. I love the regen. Every time I hit the brakes I feel like a failure. 😂 Thanks for the comment and for watching.

Every car develops rust on the brake rotors. My cars do it over night when the weather is damp. It can also cause the uneven braking sensation. Just speed up and brake hard a few times then it’s gone. They rotors are not cylinders they are discs.

I think the rust on disks is quite normal, I'm no expert but I used to have a car that shows exactly those makars and the manufacturer's service told me that that was “normal” eventually it fell off... But your window seems to be a bad painting job that wasn't completely covered and some salt was stuck there... Here in Canada with a small paint scratch and not treated quick enough, it will get rusty in no time.

Rust on the rotors come from sitting when you’re not driving after being wet . The vibration maybe one or more rotors are Warp. Model X ( well all Tesla’s ) is aluminum so trim piece itself maybe damage and rusting still problems no one expects to have so soon however warp rotors might be from playing in snow sir 🤭 all it takes when there hot and water/snow rapidly cools them down and they’re warped

Totally agree on Tesla and quality. My 2018 Model 3 had unpainted surfaces (edge of the hood was bare metal), signs of bolts holding up the doors adjusted after it was painted, missing clear coat underneath the trunk piece itself, panel gaps, all kind of issues I wouldn’t find normally in a BMW, Benz, Audi. Service took care of some but not all saying “it’s within spec.” Every time I go into a Tesla Store, I check the displayed cars for quality to see if they improve and it’s all over the place. Recently, I was at Tesla Waikiki Beach and the Model S Plaid had black trim misalignment, panel gaps on front doors, paint rubbing off on the rear body where the trunk closes. Can’t wait to see if quality improves and stays consistent with Model Ys from Austin factory soon.

Rust happens on just about all brake rotors. It doesn't matter who made them or how much the car costs. The exception being ceramic and aluminum. Ceramic are used on high performance cars but usually cost between $6k and $40k+. Aluminum is mostly for motorcycles. There can be different mixtures that make up either steel or cast iron rotors. Cast Iron being the predominate one in cars today. Either of them will rust. Your Model Y rotors will most certainly rust given the right conditions. Just like many have said you need to apply the brakes a little more often under higher speeds to get rid of the rust. This is both for the rotor and the pads to stay healthy. Why your X is rusting more than the Y could be any number of things. Hard braking in the Y could have formed a glaze to help keep rust at bay, it could be the X rotors have a higher concentration of iron in them which rusts easier or any number of things. The rust on the rotors are completely normal for any car that sits or doesn't use the brakes very often. Especially in a place where there is water and salt. The rust on the trim is something that Tesla needs to take care of as there is nothing normal about that.

Hi there, Rust on brake disks may be common. Mainly dusting winter or wet seasons. Especially with e-cars as the recuperate instead of using breaks. It is annoying but it may be avoided. If you are close to your destination you should hit the breaks a few times so that the waterdrops on the disks will evaporate or beeing cleaned off. That should keep rust off your break disks. If breaking feels uneven it is too late already and they need to be changed. Concerning the rust on the trim. If that is confirmed it will be unacceptable as there are too many ways to avoid for a car producer, especially with a car of this price. Looking forward to your news about that, especially as I am waiting for my Model X. I am a little concerned… Greetings from Germany.

the rust on the break rotors is normal, normally the rust is rubbed off by the break pads and the more the rotors sit without breaks being used, they rust. Also if you are in a place that salt can get on them like beach's or salt on roads in winter the salt will speed up the process of the rust. There is no way to prevent the rust on the rotors, anything that you would normally spray on metals to prevent rust will prevent the brakes from stopping well and will be scraped off the first time the breaks are used.

The “rust” on the rotors is normal. It builds up every day and more often when the brakes aren’t in use. Which is like, everyday unless you press them really hard to use the hydraulic brakes, (which are the normal brakes every other car has). Otherwise you’re using the motors. This in turn saves you from having to replace your brakes every 30-40k miles, to about >200k miles or more. You can turn this feature off but you’ll likely still see the issue when it rains every morning and you’ll have to change your brakes more often. Regarding the rust on the door seal, most likely was never coated because it’s on the interior side, water may have seeped in and settled causing the rust over time. You can’t really spot that with your eyes at delivery and coating is clear. Nearly impossible to find something like that without the aid of time.

I suspect they salt the roads in your region which will explain why corrosion appear so early on a brand new car. Still I question the production of your Tesla. I would assume that all body parts goes through a bath where they are galvanized before assembly. The fact that rust appears on a car that has only been used for two months I shocking. As for the break disks I assume that this is partly due to salt and partly because electric car regenerate electricity instead of applying the breaks when you slow them down. In my area they salt the roads and I have had to change all five break disks before my diesel car was 5 years old. It was not due to normal wear and tear but due to corrosion. If it is not already done I recommend that you have the underside and canals coated with techtyl or similar.

Great points. Im not sure about the salt causing the rust this soon. I suspect that it was missed during the production of this particular X. As far as the brakes go a few people on the channel have told me exactly what you just stated. Ill have Tesla take a look at it when I bring it in for service. Thanks for the info and for watching!

Thanks for sharing, yes this is definitely not the quality you expect. With Tesla it is always challenging going for the tech, fun, speed and accept the poor build quality. Or selecting another brand that has less tech, speed and fun.

It's a tough choice. I love everything you mention about what the Tesla provides with the caveat that you're probably going to have some build quality issues. I could've purchased almost any European vehicle on the market at this price point. With the exception of exotic cars (Ferrari, Lambo etc) but I chose the Tesla. I'll see what the Tesla service department does and says next month when I go in for service. Great comment and thanks for watching!

@@teslaownersperspective1968 I totally agree. I have two Tesla’s 3 and x and now ordered the plaid x. So far Tesla solved everything for me so far and accepted the quality challenges. Service is also different all online. 4 year quarantee helps. I agree if i need to go to often for service repair that is getting really irritating for a brand new car.

You have disc brakes and it's normal for the disc to rust when snow and water hits it. Just use your brakes more and the rust will go away. As for the rust on the body of the tesla that is not normal.

This is what happens when you try to get enrolled into FSD *beta* by driving like a grandma to keep 99% safety score. Lol... Very disappointing, I totally agree when you say that Tesla needs to pick up their game, because they sell expensive cars that should have top quality and instead multiple people find issues with their Tesla when they go to pick it up. Your Model X is very expensive and especially shouldn’t have that rust on the trim, they probably didn’t put enough coating or they missed that spot, because that should not be happening. The rust starting to grow on the rotors may be normal but I personally don’t think it should be happening on a Tesla, I live in Texas and I don’t think any of our cars have rust on the rotors or anywhere but we also live in a very different climate and never have snow here. It may just be normal for your climate but it definitely should be checked out. The vibrating when you push the brakes doesn’t seem normal, I’m no expert but I don’t think it should be caused for rarely using the brakes, I have no clue if this could be caused because of the rust on the rotors but I highly doubt it, that definitely needs to be checked so Tesla can tell you what’s going wrong. I am not gonna lie but I feel like March is pretty far away for when your appointment was scheduled, it would be more convenient if Tesla had shorter waits because that is honestly a pretty long wait, I never knew appointments with Tesla took that long. I am very sorry to hear that this has come upon you, it is very unfortunate and I hope it gets fixed! I would definitely be mad if that were my Tesla. I have watched a lot of your vids and I thumbs up each one I watch, I am subscribed and I love your content, I think it really helps so thanks!

I think the main issue Im having a hard time grasping is that I also have the Model Y which is from the same car maker and I have don't have these issues 2 years into ownership. The brakes are awesome when I do use them. The regen feature is awesome. The price point is also troublesome because these cars are not cheap. I dont think having high expectations for something this expensive is not warranted. How can they allow a car to be delivered without proper inspection and showing signs of rust? It's unacceptable to me. I totally agree with you about the service date. When my wife needs her non Tesla car serviced she usually gets scheduled within a fews days of calling. That could also be because so many Tesla owners are bringing their cars in for service. So frustrating. Thank you so much for the comment and for supporting me and the channel. You're the reason why this channel has continued to grow. As I say "If you keep watching I'll keep posting". :-)

This does not surprise me at all… Tesla’s quality control is horrific… my brother picked up his Model S plaid 2 weeks ago… had a dent in the bottom corner of the front bumper, horribly misaligned back door, to the point where it made a weird noise when closing, obvious scratches on the back bumper and a few other things on the interior…. He was so close to rejecting the delivery but the SA talked him off the ledge promising to have it all fixed within a week. It’s at the service center now.

I live in Scandinavia, here we have many months with snow and ice and salt My tesla 3 model year 2019 I have learned the hard way is not made for this climate to take some things the handles freeze so I can't get into the car regardless of whether I use the app to heat the car 2 hours before I go the few times this helps then another phenomenon occurs when i open the door and the window won't go down due to ice and i get in the car and close the door then the window explodes because the window hasn't gone down when there is a lot of snow on the car and I open the rear hatch, most of the snow falls straight into the trunk when it rains the same thing happens the hatch is not water tight and it is not fun to have the hatch filled with water these are just some of the problems i have with my tesla 3 here's a video that pretty well shows what I'm talking about kzbin.info/www/bejne/jYTUYahrlJWgnq8si=wOkFTrbGs-t-RSLC the next video shows that the Tesla model 3 and Y have no rust protection whatsoever from the factory this is really bad kzbin.info/www/bejne/f4PNm4aVrr5lh8ksi=mZfm1zE3zqcxZp4D Tesla is lousy when it comes to the body no rust protection they mix materials that generate galvanic currents that eat up the metal in the car if you own your Tesla for 1-2 years it works but I would never buy a used Tesla the rust protection is so bad that a 3-year-old car used in Scandinavia already has such rust damage that it fails the car inspection here, Tesla must learn from the established car brands how to make a car body that does not rust apart after a few years this part should be much easier than FSD etc. for this, all icu car manufacturers have the knowledge, it's just for Tesa to copy their method unless Tesla improves the quality of their cars and by that I mean the body, paint, mechanical, then many Tesla owners will be quite disappointed when they sell their 3 year old Tesla which is full of rust and paint damage kzbin.info/www/bejne/bWWTinmei7d4r5osi=a2ktLXohIQuqtQ2y unless you live in Miami or Dubai or some other place that doesn't have snow or rain
