Miss Moose puts on her $5 boots from the toteman, and kicks a**😮...How can you dig with 1 hand, and film with the other, and still hold on to what you want!... It baffles science!...Some great photos and I'd love to watch that 8mm film! 📽 enjoyed watching your video 💻

It's a talent haha. I detest chest mounts, so I've learned to work this way. I also do a lot of diggin off-camera, or if I spot something neat in a tote, I'll bring out the camera before I start really digging in the box, so that I can capture that "shocking" moment. I'll break out my reel to MP4 player at some point. Got a shock yesterday at the dentist, as I thought the price I was given was for the root canal and the new crown. Nope, the crown has it's own hefty price tag, oh yay!

I’ve had great success removing antique scrap and advertising from old scrapbooks by using the hot water method. I fill a glass baking dish with the hottest tap water and submerge an album page. In 5-10 min the glue is dissolved and the paper can be separated easily. Often the scrap pieces just float right off. Easy peasy 😀

0:43 These boots are made for walking...and you can´t beat some Nikes for a whopping five bucks, well done, Renée ! Never miss a wooden nickel, not worth a fortune, but nonetheless collectible. Congrats on the scrap book which is a caleidoscope of impressions mainly from the 1950´s ?! Keep it up, and have a great rest of this Thursday (cold and rainy overe here). 🌧Greets from GER, U.

I had to think to myself "It's Thursday?" I feel this week has been so off and also has gone by so fast! The scrapbook has a wonderful array of cards with so many possible projects inspired by them. Add all those projects to the list and hope for a 2-3 day blizzard to get through them! On a side note, I finally used the correct wording in a search to find an online copy of the Berlin telephone directory from 1948. 1947 wasn't available, but I thought 48 would probably work for my Berlin letters as well. Might be a far stretch, but I'm hoping to possibly use that to see if I can find the real name of the woman writing the letters or her house where she lived. I'll add that to my nightly research! Hope things are well across that big pond!
@fareast_de

@@PaperandMoose Wow, this means that you got some hints like her adress or something else. Even then it´s difficult to find that lady because a lot of Berlin folks lived as subleaser due to the heavily destroyed city. Fingers crossed, and if you got a result, let me know ! 🤞

Oh, wow! You did better than I did today. Thrifting Thursday wasn't great. I found some practical wool undershirts for myself and a set of MCM brass cranes made in Korea, but nothing that fabulous for reselling. It was our first cold frost of the season this morning and nights of aurora, so I'm taking out the camera and tripod tonight and going across the road to the beach to try to capture something. I used to be able to do this on my veranda, but since the new neighbours moved in and installed several outside flood lights, I can't even see the stars. I find it very depressing and disorienting.
@PaperandMoose
@PaperandMoose 10 ай бұрын
I'd feel the same about the neighbor's new lights, what a shame that you aren't able to enjoy the view anymore. I do hope that you are able to capture some good photographs! The wool undershirts sound like a good find. You can't beat being able to purchase something useful for yourself at a lower price!

@@PaperandMoose Yeah, and I live out in a country settlement, between two villages. As soon as they moved here, they went on a rampage against trees, cutting them down, wildlife and the natural dark sky. They should have just stayed in the city. Well, they're old, so at least I have a chance of outliving them. They are the ONLY neighbours who have done this. Everyone else encourages the view and the wildlife.

I don't want WORMS...I want _____ I'll let you fill in the blank! Neat boots. That 1960 "Keel" yearbook would be in my collection. Looking into those totes is good back exercise! I found a couple of neat items in my thrift travels yesterday...one I treasure is a 7' LP of the Stalacpipe Organ, located in the Luray Caverns, Luray, Va. The organ features rubber-tipped mallets which strike stalactites (hanging from the cave's ceiling), which have been tuned by a grinding process...each to concert pitch. The result is a sound combining the lingering sounds of organ pipes, as well as a vibraphone. The unique acoustics of the cave creates this ethereal sound. Three picture frames and an interesting fr-g electronic game completed the small haul.
@PaperandMoose
@PaperandMoose 9 ай бұрын
Now that sounds like a great record! I haven't been to those caverns. Here we have a few - Lost River Caverns & Crystal Cave. I've been to both as a child, but would like to go back again. No organs in those caves though! I'll have to take a look on KZbin to see if they have any videos of the Stalacpipe Organ!

I use one of those jewelry cleaners. It does work. But in order to work good I soak them for awhile. You can’t clean pearls. Be careful because they can loosen settings with gem stones. I cleaned a beautiful vintage ring that had several different gems and a couple small opals and one of them fell out!

Definitely another "Day of Renee!" Wally got more cards as a kid than I've received my whole life. At least I'm assuming he was a kid. The photos, scrapbooks and albums are excellent. Do you buy Polaroids? I generally avoid them because I don't know how they hold up over time. It's been a long time since I've found photos at our flea market. The lady with the doll on her neck line - that would be a great Halloween costume with the right doll. If you ever make it to Durham again, there's a restaurant here called "Toast" that you should visit. Hope you go 3/3 with the Tote Man next week! Have a great Thursday!
@PaperandMoose
@PaperandMoose 10 ай бұрын
I don't come across Polaroids that often. If I do, they are usually in one of those sticky page photo albums and those are hard to peel off without ruining anything. Maybe the cycle of those photos ending up in cleanouts, auctions, etc. hasn't occurred yet because people still know who are in the photographs or are keeping them, unless older photos. I received a phone call from my friendly post office worker the other day telling me that I just received the biggest box he ever had come to his post office. I could barely fit in through my front door! The possibilities of what you sent are endless! Thank you in advance!
@stephenritz5581
@stephenritz5581 10 ай бұрын
@@PaperandMoose Hopefully you got both boxes. I definitely was not "Patron of the Day" at Durham's Roxboro Road Post Office when I mailed them. After Postal Workers questioned me about size & weight (before they would even touch it), one sighed to the other, "We have to take it." After all, I was 3" under the length plus girth thing. I don't think I'll send one quite like that again, but I'm glad to know I hold the Bloomsbury package size record (at least during your friend's tenure). In any case, you're more than welcome - I hope it will be a fun one. BTW - did you get that USS Grand Canyon folder? Just curious.

Look like you did pretty well, great that people know what you like and look out for you…that can be valuable asset I’ve been doing really great at our flea markets. Last week I found an 18th century OG moulding plane made by Joseph Fuller. He was born in 1724, fought in the revolutionary war, probably made the plane in the 1760s Is in beautiful condition. The girls didn’t have school so they came to the flea market. I was showing Olive some tools and she pulled the plane out from some nothing special 1800s planes, I knew what it was immediately. Got it for $15 Olive told me she needed $3 for a surprise…turns out she found a …in her words “ the most beautiful cat” decoupage on a piece of wood …

Awe, $3 for the most beautiful cat sounds like a good deal! Glad that she enjoys going to the flea market and looking for what she likes. The plane you found sounds amazing! @PaperandMoose
@PaperandMoose 9 ай бұрын
Plenty of people buy ephemera, with their interests ranging from military history, local history, travel, photographs, rare paper, to those that just use it in their crafts. There are ephemera shows that draw in sellers & buyers, where the show is strictly just ephemera - that’s it. I attend in-person auctions where antique ledgers from the early 1900s sell for hundreds, photo albums from WWII sell for hundreds, local paper from businesses long defunct bring in a decent amount - often purchased by a historian or resident of the town. Ephemera is history. I’ve loved learning & reading about history since I was a young girl, and that love has only become greater with all of the wonderful paper that I find & the history that is being saved by finding it.
