This qualification is designed to provide Senior Year 5 (S5) and Senior Year 6 (S6) pupils opportunities to develop skills and knowledge for entry into a career in the Creative Industries sector.
In S5 pupils complete a National Progression Award (NPA) at SCQF Level 6. This includes knowledge units that support pupils to develop an understanding of the technologies, processes and practices used within the Creative Industries. The Foundation Apprenticeship is a two-year course for School pupils.
During year 1 the learners are based within the college learning creative digital and media skills for one day a week.
During year 2, the learners are based within a work placement for 1 day applying the skills learnt within a real-life context. The skills acquisition of year 1 will be focused upon a research portfolio and a production portfolio, which will focus upon the following practical production outputs: Animation; Video; Photography; Social Media; Graphic Design with a final project tailored to prepare them for the media project brief negotiated with their placement provider.
The second year will be assessed within the workplace and will involve scheduled meetings between the college-based assessor and the work placement supervisor to monitor engagement and progress of the individual candidate. The candidate will be expected to generate a digital work-placement log, which will be monitored regularly by the college-based assessor.
