Foundation Friday Over 50 | #22 | Hourglass Vanish Stick

I have had nothing but major success with this foundation. I am a little dismayed that so many people will not try it now. I am 51 have normal to oily skin and use many of the same skincare products as Angie including Retin A. This foundation is GORGEOUS on me. Goes on like a dream and lasts a full work day. Maybe one blot and touch up after 3:00 pm. Please ask for a sample at Sephora before writing this off completely.

Susan Deneen not only that, but Hourglass recommends using a dense brush to put it on. I can’t think of a worse application method than using fingers. I’m normal to dry, 52, and like you, it looks fantastic on me and I don’t even need to set it because it dries to a perfect finish.

@Sweet Serenity @Momma Bear Have we watched the same video ? She tried 7 different shades with the Sephora employees in order to match her. They couldn't so she took this one because it was the less worse. And she tried different methods of application with different tools and different combinations with and without primers and sunscreen. What do you want to do more? Just accept the fact that this one didn't work for her and that's it. If it works for you on the other hand that's great. And regarding the special brush that you're supposed to buy to make the foundation work... sorry but when you buy a product you should be able to apply it with your regular tools (fingers or decent quality foundation brush or decent quality sponge). Otherwise it's really not worth the buy in my opinion. You shouldn't have to buy an extra two products and giving more money to a brand for something as a foundation to work. If so it's really dissuasive in my opinion. Also not everyone has the money to afford buying three products. So if you're gonna treat yourself buying a luxury item it should work properly without additional purchases. In Angie's case it just didn't work. Because foundation is personal and definitely not universal.

Susan Deneen just found this old review after trying it myself. Same as you I love it and I am 50. She also now recommends sleeping sitting up....takes hormone replacement to avoid hot flashes... and supports all sorts of extreme procedures like fillers and Botox.. Not the best judge of anything in my opinion.🤔 I have no idea what she was doing.

I struggled with it at first. The solution was to use a firm, dense foundation brush with two drops of facial oil, and apply 3-2" stripes on each cheek and 2 stripes on my forehead.

I'm quickly approaching 50 and I LOVE this foundation. I'm normal-dry-skin, few lines and few pores. It has become my holy grail over the past 3 months. Amazing how personal foundation is. I can see how it didn't work for you, no doubt. However, for me, it is beautiful! LOL on not wanting the dog to see you on this. ;)

50 & LOVED IT. It's so interesting how individual a thing foundation is. I'm 50 with dry skin and I really like this foundation. I've used their brush and it does work best that way but I've also used a beauty blender and worn it with no primer and primer. It works each way for me and best of all STAYS PUT through hot flashes! It's the only foundation I've found that can really handle the sweaty face flashes. So while it clearly didn't work for you, I do want women our age to know it's absolutely still worth a try as it is a truly unique foundation and I know 3 other over 45 women who are using it with beautiful results in addition to myself. (I use Eve Lom SPF 50 sunscreen and when I use a primer, I use Hourglass #28 serum primer and MUFE Step 1 in Yellow tube to cover the pores on my nose, cheeks and chin that have arrived with the skin changes of menopause).

You are absolutely right! You just never know until you try it yourself. I've tried many foundations that other people have loved, and I didn't end up liking, and vice versa. Everyone's skin is different. You may be missing out on a great foundation by not trying it. I'm so thankful for the Sephora sample program! We're very lucky to have it. : )

I couldn't agree more! This is a perfectly workable albeit expensive foundation. I too am pushing 50, and it works really well on my dry, rosacea prone and sensitive skin, and I have seen it work well on several of my friends too! Of course skin type matters but also your skins condition and how you take care of your skin. It feel that a lot of women have become so hung up on fighting age that they experiment too much with combinations of anti ageing skin care products that simply irritate and stresses and thins out the skin so much that the skins barrier function stops working, the pores get enlarged and the skin becomes too thin instead of thickening up as some of the substances aim to do. And then there are hardly any foundations that can cover up that. Especially not foundations designed to mix with the skin like the hourglass one. The Chanel one Angie likes is a type of foundation that is designed to create a veil on top of the skin to create a new canvas.

Rhonda B Agree. I am in my 40's have combination skin and really like this foundation. Works really well on my skin. It must be the products she uses underneath as she said it was stiff and hard to blend. It glides across my skin so easily. Sounds like we are using two different products

I am a 57 year old woman and just purchased and have wore for a week. One of my all time favorites and I have tried so many high end and drug store products. I did not have any issues with application or with blending, and it looks flawless on my face. I have some dark spots and it covers amazingly without looking heavy and stays all day. Again, it just makes my face look flawless. I will definitely repurchase. I would suggest anyone on the fence just give it a try as we are all different. Thanks and God Bless.

Hourglass has an amazing primer "Veil". It works beautifully for me and is my favorite (I am 67).

It's so odd how different makeup reacts to individual skin types and chemistry. This is my new holy grail foundation, it is full coverage on me and applies perfectly with my Artis Oval 8 over just moisturizer.

Your reviews are so helpful. I know I mentioned this in a comment I left a couple of months ago, but I love Lancome's Teint Idole foundation stick. I just purchased my second tube and that is saying something because I have not repurchased a foundation in years! I gave up on liquid foundations because they just don't work for me. Jordan Liberty announced that Anastasia is releasing her first foundation the end of this month. It is a stick foundation formulated for oily skin. I am going to try this one because the price is supposed to be around $24 instead of $40 something. It looked beautiful on the model, but we all know they don't have real skin! Thank you for the great reviews and the frustration you suffer for us!

Im curious. After watching all your foundation reviews you dont seem to really LOVE any. Do you think maybe your skin and using retin a and products that turn over your skin has made your skin thin? And because its thin it naturally is more shiny causing your makeup to not work at all no matter which one you use? I remember being on retin A and using so many products my skin just looked terrible in foundation and always shiny and unnatural.

There´s a woman here on youtube(Brianna Stanko) that always use retin-a and she uses this foundation and loves it...So, I think it hasn´t any correlation. The only thing is that Angie has oily skin, and it´s difficult to find foundations that really work on oily and more mature skin.

+caty2ful I watch Brainna Stanko too. Very knowledgable and she works for plastic surgery. However she is at least 20 years younger than Angie as well. I think foundation is just one of those very individual and person things and each person just has to try. I believe she liked the Miliani liquid foundation and I hated it. It was so cakey. So like everything, reviews are a great thing but in the end you have to take so many things into account. Just get a sample and try it if you can.

Thanks for the review, I was wanting a stick foundation and couldn't get a match in Sephora in the hourglass. Shell was the closest for my skin tone too. I ended up getting the makeup forever HD stick as the sephora gals said it was better than the hourglass for aging dry skin. So far I'm liking the makeup forever stick.

Thanks for taking another one for the team, Angie. I wasn't going to try this particular foundation just because of the cost, but I've seen nothing but fair to bad reviews. Have a successful trip to Miami. It's far less humid here in Sarasota today, so hopefully Miami will be similar. Moving in 100% humidity is a killer!

I just bought this last weekend and I wish I had seen this first. I used it once on it's own and I thought it was to oily for it, then I mixed it with my hourglass liquid to powder (which is too dark for me right now) and powder the crap out of it. I had some of the same settling issues you did. For the money it's not worth the trouble to try to make it work, it's going back! I'm taking my daughter up to your area for college next weekend. She's our only and I'm not sure how I'll handle it. Wish me luck!

Hi Angie. I also tried it twice at Sephora and ended up removing it right there! Couldn't stand watching me in it. So cakey.... I really wish you could try the Tom Ford Foundation stick. See if there is hope for us over 50 to wear a Foundation stick!I bought the Tarte Rainforest of the Sea Foundation instead and have been very happy with it.

Wow, that's disappointing for a pricey product. I bought the Lancôme foundation stick last month and have been loving it. I have normal/dry skin. I just swipe it on, then blend in with ELF's new selfie ready brush, set with some powder and am happy with the way it wears thru the work day. Thanks for sharing Angie! You need to use to brush that follows, or at the least a BB. It then works perfectly. You wil only stick it on to your fingers, and those dots are veeeeeery small that you make.. This is the best foundation regarding coverage i have ever tried. If you take a look at any other video, you will for sure see FULL coverage in every single one of them. It can however crease, I'm 38 and have some lines, but i used a very good moisturiser and a very good eye primer before. And i have done makeup for 14 years, and there are only 1 foundation that beats this in matter of coverage. If 3 dots isnt enough as u see on those with flawless skin, then use a little more and dont rub it in like with the fingers. But maybe it is just not for you..

WOW, you were so spot on with your review, this stuff created wrinkles where there were no wrinkles, highlighted pores where pores were nearly invisible, the most ageing hideous foundation I have ever put on my face, I couldn't wash this stuff off fast enough!

Hi Angie, I'm also 53, and I have a suggestion for your Foundation Friday's. Have you ever tried, Revlons, Color Stay Foundation? You may be pleased. It's the Only drug store foundation I can wear without looking aged. Try it in the combination, oily. The one for dry skin is way to oily! Try it, I bet you'll like it!
