I met Barbara Eden at the height of "Jeannie's" popularity, when I was working at a TV station. She came into the control room and said, "Hello." I turned and saw the most beautiful women I had ever seen (and I'd met lots of beautiful celebrities). I was almost dumbstruck by her beauty. She looked flawless and was dressed in a beautiful Chanel-like suit. Fortunately, I quickly gained my composure, got back to business mode, and escorted her down to the studio for her scheduled interview.

it's funny. first, our censors are unrealistically "protective". How the belly button was "provocative" I'll never understand. Now we have thongs on tv; prime time that is. Which I have no problem with.

NBC didn't want Barbara's navel to be exposed on camera, just as they didn't want to exploit Jeannie's relationship with "Master" too closely (two of their edicts to Sidney Sheldon before production of the series began: "Tony must never enter Jeannie's bottle", and "We must never see Jeannie entering Tony's bedroom"). Occasionally, during the last two seasons, Barbara would casually lower the waistband of her harem pants enough for her navel to be seen for a few seconds....

of course they make a fuss over a belly button. if they don't waste time talking about trivial matters, they might actually need to go out and find some REAL NEWS, and that takes WORK.

all the fuss was for nothing because her Navel ( as you said ) was seen several times over the course of the series all so Tony was inside Jeannie's bottle and Jeannie in Tony's bedroom.
