In this workshop you will learn the foundational movements and breathing of Javanese dance, originating from the Central Javanese Royal Court in Yogyakarta. This style of Javanese dance is known for its equilibrium of slow and intricate movements and breathing, which offers a meditative experience.

Maria is a Javanese dance maestro and one of the leading contemporary dancers from Indonesia in her generation. Trained as a classical Javanese Court dancers since childhood prior to deepening her skills in contemporary dance. She is also a co-founder and steering committee of Indonesian Dance Festival (Jakarta’s biannual international contemporary dance festival since 1992), and professor at the Dance Faculty of Institute Kesenian Jakarta (IKJ).
