@Christopher Mendez Eh gamma ray burst would most certainly short out almost all of the electronics around and gamma ray bursts shouldn't cause ash clouds or tsunamis either. Ash clouds, and tsunamis are usually from volcanic eruptions. As for why satellites are out, who knows. In theory a volcanic eruption shouldn't be able to do anything to satellites but with the sheer amount of force volcanos erupt with, perhaps it ended up launching rocks into orbit that managed to collide with satellites? After all, it really only takes 1 piece of debris going fast enough to take out a satellite (which is why nasa is pretty concerned about all the trash floating in orbit around the earth) which can cause more debris to shoot out from the damaged satellite to hit more satellites. I wouldn't be surprised if a particularly massive eruption managed to take down a few satellites by shooting rocks into space but it'd be a bit of a stretch to take out all the satellites.

You missed something during the cop scene at about 5 minutes. As they enter the area you can see a sign saying there's a prison nearby and to not pick up hitchhikers, so the crazed man in the cop car must've been a convict who escaped during the power outages, which also explains the man's outfit.

It's an explosion of the Earth's core. The molten nickle is starting to erupt through the miles of crust sedimentation. The rotation of the solid nickle and counter-rotation of the molten nickle generates our magnetic shield. You can tell the cause is the Earth's core by the birds, who use it as a guidance tool during their migration flights. They are demonstrating really crazy flight patterns during this movie and the compass reactions are another clue. The Earth's core is starting to erupt through at various spots (probably sporadically as the pressure builds) and cooking everything and everyone in the process. Whether it'll eventually calm down before it completely incinerates everyone and everything on the surface is unknown. Whether or not it's because the poles are overdue for a flip is really uknknown. Any variable could be responsible for the Earth's core going critical. I told my wife this was the reason after watching this movie. I babbled on for hours. Lol, she was exhausted. Bless her heart.
@unambitious6 жыл бұрын
There is a clear reference to the Carrington Event of 1859; the part where the powerlines are sparking and they get cell reception for a moment. In 1859, the sun emitted a massive solar flare/CME which caused this for telegraph operators. Some were shocked badly through their headsets and others noticed that power was on without being hooked up. The undulating magnetic field of earth induced electrical power in the cables. This is also why the movie puts so much emphasis on the sun and the heat. The CME was the last straw for our already weakening magnetic field and pushed the pole inversion over in a day... and like you said, the magnetohydrodynamic engine of the core gets disrupted along with crust displacement. Someone put a little too much effort into this movie...

I love this movie and as an Ecologist it got me to do extensive research into this subject. I'm pretty confident with the results of my findings that it's pretty much caused by either a physical Polar Shift also known as a cataclysmic pole shift which is happening faster than expected but not fast enough to entirely rip the crust apart. Could also be the beginning of one with things to get far more destructive very quickly. Or the most realisitc some sort of extreme Seismic event that cause Earhtquakes of 10+ on the Ritcher scale resulting in a magnitude of violent and persistent Volcanic eruptions accross the globe (by the looks Yellowstones one of them and has left Seattle in total and utter ruins due to multiple fires caused by the extreme heat within the atmosphere which would cause random and sudden wildfires accross multiple vegetation regions. It comes to conclusion it was most likely due to a catostrophic change in the rotation or function of the Earths Core triggering a chain of events that severely impacted the Mantle and Crust layers of the Earth resulting in a Seismic disaster on a large scale not long after it threw the earths axis off and caused the start of a physical Polar Shifts early stages. It expalins the birds flying in straight lines, the bizzare thunderstorms and weather patterns and planes crashing and cell phones failing due to the sudden collapse of GPS communication and navigation. I'm glad someone else came to the same conclusion because one of the theories was a Gamma Ray burst or a Solar Flare which makes very little sense whatsoever.

Now, factor in the accidents, time spent at Rickie's place w/their initial car issues...time spent w/Meg...and well, it's quite feasible to take 4 days to travel that far..especially when we're talking about some type of mysterious "End of Time Apocalypse" scenario!

I raise you a rouge black hole closing in on the solar system. Explains everything very well. The tidal forces of the enormous gravitation would cause the sun to go haywire, leading to massive solar storms, causing the aurora and the electric malfunctions. The orbits of the planets start to distort causing the ever hotter temperatures. The tidal forces exerted on earth cause the massive seismic events, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions.

I don't think the movie just gave up on itself. It ended where it needed to end. The movie is about a father and a son in law earning eachothers respect on a quest to save the one person they both love the most. Ricky's character represents those people who are aware but oblivious to catastrophic events. She thinks she can be a rapper and not get blood on her hands. But when she does she crumbles under that truth and fades away. Tom's death is a symbolic gesture of passing on the responsibility of protector onto Will. Tom pushes on through the journey despite his injuries cuz he thinks only he is capable of saving his daughter. But after learning who Will is and seeing what he's capable of he trust Will enough to die. He knows he's got this. Will Sam and Will survive the cloud of ash? It doesn't matter. Cuz the movie is not about surviving the apocalypse. It's about learning who we are and what we'll do in the midst of the apocalypse.

Flipping of the magnetic poles actually makes perfect sense. Thats why the auroras could be seen from Seattle, thats where one of the poles was near at that time, signifying that the poles were, indeed, moving and very likely flipping. Also the intense heat, as there would probably be compromised parts of our atmosphere as the core was doing its nonsensical nincompoopery, and there'd also most likely be tons of geological disturbances and thats shown with all the ash and specifically the pyroclastic flow that chases them as the movie ends. How does this explain the giant ash cloud? Does flipping the poles generate volcanic activity? what if it wasnt the flipping of the poles? What if it was yellowstone or some other known or unknown volcano?
@shreyag.97526 жыл бұрын
Magnetism is a very strange force with very little confirmed about how it works. However, if it is generated by the movement of metal in the Earth's crust, sizable movement could cause the flip as well as the intense volcanic activity. The west coast is located on the Ring of Fire, a volcanic chain that exists around the Pacific plate so it's not an unlikely event. Also volcanic hotspots could occur at this time when the Earth is undergoing a lot of stresses as the poles flip.

Well the solid Iron and nickel core of Earth is moving constantly, but when it flips... Then I can't explain that, ether the sphere along with the poles are messed up or merge together partially or almost entirely and this causes a massive shift in the mid-Atlantic ridge as the layer beneath the crust is being shifted heavily due to it being the 3rd layer away from the core... Correct me if I am wrong but I think the flipping of the magnetic pole causes everything to shift with it...

The Earth’s core stopped. That would cause earthquakes and volcanoes to erupt, which could cause the poles to shift, the tidal waves and the ash. It would also thin the atmosphere, which explains the heat, auroras, bird flight patterns, the emp from cosmic radiation or what would be a harmless solar flare and the crazy lightning storms. How no one noticed the similarities between this movie and The Core amazes me.

@@HailNeatoBurrito you've experienced an actual planetary core stopping? Science is based off observation and that theory is purely speculation. People didn't know that tornadoes could shift 90 degrees steady but that didnt stop the one in Florida back in the early 2000's.

Though the poles flipping is a good theory to point out, another good theory that will be often overlooked is something Robert Schoch referred to as a "Solar Induced Dark Age". According to Robert Schoch, the effects of a solar induced dark age involves an aurora borealis (northern lights) being visible over all the planet, spiked heat waves, thunderstorms so cataclysmic that lightning and rain are constant (we're talking on the level of god like here, man), and rising sea levels. All this caused by a massive solar flare. Think of the Carrington Event of 1859 on meth. I recommend reading up on it, it's awesome.

The original ending was probably to have them overtaken by the ash cloud, and then have the screen fade to black, implying that they die in the volcanic ash cloud. The reason behind the ending is hinted at earlier. The guy who Will comes across mentions that he's heading to Canada because 'Something about the air', as in Canada hasn't been affected by the ash or many other events somehow. So, when Will finds Sam and the other guy, they are in the woods, presumably North-East of Seattle in one of the National Forests/Parks. Meaning they were well within range of the Canadian border, so I think it's insinuated that when the ash cloud stops, it's because it hit the Canadian border. However, assuming that that's actually the case, that Canada's "air" isn't affected or is a shield against the ash and other events, really makes no sense, also assuming the cause of all of it was the magnetic poles switching. Idk. The movie wasn't bad, apart from the ending was a bit weird. The movie leaves a lot of unanswered questions which I actually don't mind, given that it's done well.

You forgot to take into account of roads. When you showed the map for Chicago to Seattle, you seemingly forgot that many roads they tried to take, were either blocked or had prowling looters. They were likely taking a much longer route. Instead of going through the north, they likely went through many country mid-state routes, which would look more like a bow, than a line on the map. Accounting for all the problems, that can rate up to about three days. Not including times when the camera isn't rolling. Just remember, the camera is there to tell us the main story, not backstory. :3 Regardless of the matter, I do agree that they took a little longer than usual.

Thank you for explaining this as I was thinking why it took so long to drive up to Seattle. But now it makes sense.

Literally.... How it ends. The directors probably want you to fill in the blanks.

I love how will pulls out the mag and checks the number of rounds in it. The implication is that he had one round left. Meanwhile, I'm thinking "okay, did he clear the chamber and put the round in the magazine and then feel the need to check the mag again?"

She went with her son Steven. The dad wasn’t to worry about him since he can take care of him self but his daughter was across the county so that’s more important to him.

I honestly like how random the ending was it opens the door for a second movie. I almost want to think that there might be something sinister inside that cloud.
