@PHDonovan So they were angrily helping him...
@agonleed38415 жыл бұрын
actually, that's just OUR perception. They can't help how they look. They were brutally killed. And most of the fear comes from how they look, and the music WE hear in the movie. The kid is scared and refuse to just take a look at them to see what they want...so in order to really save him, or whatever, they HAVE to grab him, drag him...whatever. You say aggressive and obtuse, but in reality, they were always just helpful and as things got worse, KNOWING you weren't listening or caring or whatever...they felt they'd just make you safe.
@ZombieDragQueen5 жыл бұрын
@@agonleed3841 How they look and sound isn't the issue. It's the "catch more flies with honey" approach. Those kid ghosts have to remember they were in Eli's shoes when living and he's also terrified about the general situation; even if there weren't any ghosts around. So instead of writing his name to reveal something important when looked at in mirror view and upside down why not write on pen and paper what he needs to know? It's not just this movie. In "The Conjuring 2" why couldn't the old man ghost just tell the girls/investigators "Hey, I'm not the bad guy here, there's this Valak demon around"?
@agonleed38415 жыл бұрын
@@ZombieDragQueen again...OUR perception. We're the movie goers...take The 6th Sense theory. The kid can see the ghosts...and every time WE see them from HIS perspective, they're fucked up in some manner. But he states in his dialogue, they don't know they're dead. But..if you saw yourself with a gunshot, or hanging from the cieling, or part of your face gone..wouldn't you think something was up? But we find out later that Bruce is dead the whole time...so maybe we've been seeing him through his own perspective. Like when he saw himself move a table away from the basement door..but when he realize he's dead, the table is there. He never moved it. He, ghostly thought he did..from the perspective of someone who doesn't know he's dead. So maybe the kid saw him with the gunshot and blood all over his shirt..WE didn't see that for the sake of the later reveal. my point. Perspectives. You ask why the ghost wrote upside down and all that? Maybe it was their perspective. They are ghosts...WE don't know how that middle existence works. We also see the ghost ONLY wrote that one "letter" Maybe it takes a lot of ghostly effort to make things in the living world move...like the movie title Ghost with Patrick Swayze. he has to concentrate crazy hard to move anything. so, with that hard concentration, that one kid was able to do that one "letter". And as things went on,...they are desperately trying to get him to see..but they can't exactly talk to him. So their equivalent of yelling, is like us doing all caps...instead it's their frantic moving...breaking the glass and writing it all over the cabinets. But let's go back to you saying, "kids gotta know" lmao...I have an 11yr old son...there are a LOT of things that I know he should know, yet he still acts as if he doesn't. Yea, a couple of the kids may have been haunted, but not like NOW that they're dead, ghosts going in and out of the planes, they are sitting by with a cup of tea and thnking of the best way to communicate. They are just going in and out of planes trying to communitcate when they can, however they can. No plan. just do. And that's about where I expect kids that age thinking process to be..disembodied persons may be even worse off. Then there's that t.v. show, "Ghost Whisperer" and there's this one thing that I hate about that show...she gives the message from a ghost, to their loving live person...in a different way than the ghost says. Like, if the ghost says, "Tell her I have always loved her since the day I first met her" The "ghost whisperer" will translate that to, "He says he always admired you" That's it. Completely undermines the vibe that ghost was trying to give. But what if the truth is that the person simply only gets vibes/certain ideas? Never ACTUAL coherent words/sentences... Some people are stronger mediums and THEY can understand more accurately, while others..it's like they are hearing spanish and they only took one year of it. So they get a general idea, but don't actually get the full thing. but instead of language, with ghosts, you have to go by feel, sight, etc...sense instead of what we are used to from a live person. But you have to admit, still, that most of the "aggression" is simply a perspective based on rush camera and music, and the sight of the ghosts.

Eli really doesn't seem to be evil. He was forced into channeling his demonic heritage by the fanatical attempts at pre-emptive punishment of those who claim to praise the lord of mercy, which is further supported by the fact he turns back into a normal kid once the crisis is over. It's poetic, really.

I think it's because their parents were super religious, though. They do say Religion is a cult, right? And cults are "brainwashed" (I think Eli said that in the movie too). I mean, she became hard core religious ... I don't think she was looking to use his powers for good -- I think she became manipulated from step dad to "cure" him. Wasn't until the end of the movie where her "brainwash" is gone and she accepted what she did and who Eli is, you know?

The more I think about it, the more brilliant the script becomes. The Children are NOT allowed to help each other as Hayley says. The Ghost Children are not only disobeying a direct order from their father but have lingered on this Earth to do so. It is entirely possible that the ritual the nuns performed traps the spirits of the children. However we never see them directly attack the nuns. Their main focus was saving Eli. One explanation is that the injunctive to help still binds them to some degree. Thus their antics are in theory a haunting, in practice a means by which they can deliver enough clues to save their erstwhile siblings. The fact that they know the code to open the office implies that at least one of them got that far. They knew the truth of the treatment and who the staff were. How many children died because their parents betrayed them? Even through all that rage and grief, they were still trying to do something positive rather than wreaking havoc among their killers. A simple explanation for that is that they could not do so; their ability to manifest and affect the physical world is contingent on the powers of one of the Children being in their midst not unlike the spirits in the Shining. Until Eli arrived, they were impotently awaiting their chance to make sure what happened to them does not happen to another.

When the dad told Rose he was "always a faithful man," I took that to mean that she'd had an affair at some point. Later, when the truth came out, I figured that she did have sex with the devil and was, thus, unfaithful in more ways than one.

I think it's evident that Eli's mother had actual sex with the devil to get impregnated, because in one of her discussions with Paul, he ends up their first argument with him throwing it in her face that he was always "faithful" in a snide manner, so it is tacitly implied that she cheated on Paul to get pregnant. Also, Haley apparently knows the Devil's physical location that can be reached by merely driving to the place, so the Devil isn't just an abstract entity, confirming that he has an anthropomorphic form for the... deeds of the flesh. *shy*

@@andethidialbubabibub3261 stop there, I never said church was good, it's just that in the vast majority of media the church is considered good and you rarely see the devil as good. Dont go assuming something and then try to lecture someone about it
@ruthrichardson97175 жыл бұрын
@@andethidialbubabibub3261 Bro, do your research, firsthand. The Church is responsible for the vast majority of knowledge we now have today, and is one of the leading sources of goodwill out there. Public schools have far more counts of child abuse, even Jewish synagogues. Unfortunately, it's a terrible thing that happens all over. Sadly, no one organization is exempt. What the movie got quite right is that the devil makes everything very easy. He will promise you things and beguile you into his clutches, making a box from which you can never escape. Like a neverending nightmare. Make no mistake, he wants you to think he's the good guy.
@fransiscusrudolf53595 жыл бұрын
Knowlegde? Was that why there was a period called the Dark Age? Where the church hoard all the knowledge for themselves and cherry-picked which can be spread around? How many times did the church persecuted and punished brilliant thinker and inventor of their time and called it blasphemy? And for leading sources of goodwill is highly debatable.
