Fountain pen Hongdian A9: Review

I'm sorry to see that you've had a problem with your blue pen. My pen arrived this afternoon; and so far; the cap ring is in place, but I will be keeping an eye on that. Thank you for informing us of this issue. I do; very much; like the brown pen. That color seems to highlight the pattern, more than the blue pen. The blue pen is very dark and I wasn't expecting that. It is difficult to photograph or video, because of this. Once again, you've given us a thorough review. Thank you.

For the blue pen I've fixed it no problem. Good if you don't have this problem, I hope it will remain exceptional. My favorite color is usually the blue (like you if I remember well): but I can tell this brownish color is absolutely stunning. Clearly today my first choice over the blue version. Thank you for the comment.

Big thumbs up for the clouse-up video on the writing sample and on the details on how the nibs compare. The best aproach I've seen on such reviews! This way we can see the ink flow and nib flex. By the writing sample it looks that F nib is almost the same in width as the EF nib. I am not a fan of EF nibs at all, but that one seems to do the job very well. 👍👍👏👏

Thank you very much for the kind words ! Yes the EF and F have not a big difference (EF remains a bit thinner). The comparison would have been better using the same ink for the 2 pens - one of the things I have to improve - (and time for Hongdian to also propose a M nib ! 🙂)

@@UneFontaineDePlumes I was thinking that the ink was a factor on how the nib behave, the Monteverde inks are wetter as I know. Yes, agree with you, Hongdian should include M nibs, especially on their newer design, this is valid for the 1866 MAX with wood trims, such a beautiful finished pen with dark metal plating, also the nib have a good flex, really pleasant. A build that you see on 100+ $ pens I would say. Actually I managed to order a M nib for Hongdian 1866 Max ebony wood, as I convinced an Aliexpress seller to order one for me from the manufacturer. Actually you can see that Hongdian is selling this pen with M nib on Taobao.

Follow up question; have you had any ink leakage or burping?

@@UneFontaineDePlumes my daughter bought the same pen. Last night she uncapped it and the cap was full of ink. The pen was lying horizontally. I was thinking that mabe ebonite feeds are more prone to expansion during hot weather? My pen burped ink, when I first inked it but it was still warm from being in the mailbox. After it cooled, I have not had any problems. Hopefully, it was a one time event and she won't have any more issues, but I told her I'd check with everyone I knew, who had purchased one of the A9 pens.

@@teresaharris-travelbybooks5564 May I propose 2 points to check ? If the problem occurs again. First is just trying to change the converter. Second is to check the nib/feed position in the housing: the housing is not symmetrical (like for jowo). Feed and nib can be removed. then when you have a look to the housing, you will see a kind of small "border". Half of the circle has the border, other half has not. The nib must be inserted exactly where the there is no "border", the feed where the border is. If no there is a lot of "chance" to have ink linkage.
