I've noticed that how clean the chrono is inside and the battery voltage can affect the reading too. I have an old madbull chrono that's probably 15+ years old and a lot of people complained they weren't accurate but regularly cleaning any dust from the inside and wiring it up for an external power supply has made mine very consistent. You made a very good point at the end though. It's better to be under the limits by a little than try and be exactly on the limit and risk the field chrono reading your replica as too powerful. It's probably a good thing if field chronos read a little high too. It means there's less chance of someone using something too powerful on the day.

I would love to see you take a gander at what different types of lenghts barrel's do or maybe hop up buckings with your style of analytic video's :^) (I know they have been done before but I feel like with your preciseness we would actually get some results out of it!)

A barrel or hopup comparison video requires good weather with no wind and a place to test on wide ranges for a longer time, as i would have to do a lot of tech work in between. The idea is nice, and i would also love to see the results myself. Maybe in my next vacation :) Have a good weekend!

Very nicely done. This is the exact reason why beeing on the limit can be risky, if you do not have easy access to the spring/regulator/npas. having 0.2J lower power then field limits have very minimal impact on the game itsef and saves time during chronoing. In the end, what ever chrono the site have, that one is the "source of thruth". Having 0.1J leeway is acceptable from my point if view and is much less impactful then actual incorrect chronoing practices - measuring just with 0.2g, with hop up off and similar. These incorrect practices can impact in game power much much more then allowing someone to be 0.1J over the site limit.

Exelent video and topic! One more point that can cause different readings on the same chrono: where are you shooting through it. If you're in the sun (or shooting "toward" the sun) you'll get a different reading from a testing location that's completlly in the shade.

The angle of bb going through the 2 sensors also make a difference result Ideally you should chrono the replica perpendicular to the chronograph, if you angle a bit the replica, the reading will decrease

Sounds absolutely reasonable, yes! I tried to do it the same way and angle as good as possible during the test. Thanks for adding this information :)

@@rummboltI believe the reason behind why each chronograph have different readings is the assemble process, they use the same program in their chrono but through the assembly, length between the sensors may not the same, resulting different outcome (E.g. Program set distance between 2 sensors is 1, but in chrono 1 the sensors distancing can actually be 1.1 and chrono 2 can be 1.2)

This is why I wish we had sites get their chronos calibrated. The fact you can tell someone to not use their pew they worked hard to pay for during a day they have already paid for is silly to me if the chrono reads slitely over. You can have a perfectly okay pew but a site says otherwise.
@rummbolt2 ай бұрын
@@bazairsoft Yep, but even if they calibrate, your chrono at home can tell different readings. So bringing own chrono to the field maybe would be an idea, right?
@bazairsoft2 ай бұрын
@@rummbolt Yeah maybe, when I set up I use a mates chrono that always reads hotter than the site's so I know I'm not holding up the line when I go. now that we are no longer measuring by speed. Are we not using the wrong method to measure? Should we not switch to an impact based measuring device? I don't know of any such device that would be sufficient for airsoft use, but I think it would be a better way to measure Joules...

I think this issue might have caused my rif to be classed as hot at a game last week. It's recently been sorted by a tec and was running perfectly at the previous game days. I thought it was my fault for moving up to heavier bbs, but I remember using two different chronos at the same site previously and I failed the first, but passed the second. Will test it against mine again tomorrow and and a friend's and try and work out the difference in joules, instead of just looking at fps. Would you ever recommend taking a chrono to a game site and testing it yourself just before trying theirs? Thanks for the vid!

Joules is always a combination of BB weight and BB Speed, FPS is only the speed.
