Great projects for beginners and to make use of your scraps. I do the round tab style and do a small carving. Great way to try it a new motif. The long narrow one works well with a vine with leaves or a flower repeated pattern. So many possibilities. In a pinch, when I ran out of the plastic for a pattern, went to the dollar store and got those thin flexible chopping sheets. They're frosted so not as easy to trace but it works.

Always see things in comments that make me wonder if some stranger ever followed thru with something that has nothing to do w me. Ha!

Oh wow, I just recently found your awesome videos, already I have learned so much, your tutorials are very easy to learn the leather making trade or hobby. I've been searching on Amazon for a color mixed set of keyrings & D rings, wow it's very hard to be able to find matching colors like getting both in either light or dark silver, bronze, gold or gun metal, etc. Is it a good idea to actually keep each I make in coordinated colors?
@WeaverLeatherSupply5 жыл бұрын
Hi Melody! Thank you so much, we're so glad the videos have been helpful! If possible, I like to keep the hardware matching on each piece - it gives the product a nice professional look! If you look for solid brass or brass plated they should all be close in color and the same goes for antique brass, antique nickel, copper, etc. Hope that helps!

Curious, for repeatedly punching holes, is it more comfortable on the wrists/hands/arms to use the rotary punch, or to us a hole punch and mallet? Seems to me like repeatedly squeezing would be more strain than striking with a mallet, but having several sizes in one tool also seems beneficial.
@WeaverLeatherSupply3 жыл бұрын
Hi Rob, If you're doing a lot of hole punching, a drive punch and mallet would be more comfortable.

This is so useful thanks so much! For the Mystery Braid if I wanted to use veg-tan and dye it, will a dip-dye get inside the cuts as well? I don't want undyed edges showing on a darker colour. I have no idea how I'd do split/gradient dyes on these (yet - maybe paintbrushing dye veeerrry carefully onto the inner cuts).
@WeaverLeatherSupply4 жыл бұрын
Yes, dip-dye should get all of the inside cuts covered.

do you also have a video for the keychains with conchos? I have tried making a few of those with stiching on the edges, but the edge slick makes it deform a bit. I see yours has no stitching, and i am very curious to see what it looks like on the back ;)

Hi Chuck! Been bingeing your vids and wanted to know, if you have a 1 1/4 inch point punch, can ya also use it on a 1inch strap? Right now I can afford one punch so am trying to figure out what my most used size would be... prob mostly use on dog collars and small ppl belts. Thanks for all your work-
@WeaverLeatherSupply4 жыл бұрын
Yes, you absolutely can! Just mark the center of your strap and line up the tip of the punch with that!
@elainemartin57843 жыл бұрын
I love your tutorials but where in the U.K. can I get the tools and leather to start. You mention leather in different weights but here in Britain, they just say "leather". I ordered a scrap bag and it was all one weight, offcuts from upholstery, very soft, not appropriate for cuffs etc. I look forward to your reply. Thank you, Chuck.

i hate to be the asshole pushing another companies products on weavers video,(of which all of chucks videos are awesome), but for the spots, michael's crafts has a leather spot tool/punch that just has 2 small blades that you can set their distance apart and instantly punch both holes for any size spot. imo, its easier than doing them with the exacto knife, and the tool is only about $10 and comes with a few spots.

Just gonna let your D hang off the edge there, huh? Smh Just can't bear to use double cap "rivets" on anything that gets used at all. That'll be the failure point on every one if those keychains. Yeah they'll probably last a while. But everything made breaks eventually with continued use. And if it's got one of those double crap rivets, there's your failure point. Put a real river in the thing and let your customer use it till the leather wears thru.
