It's fucking wild to try and think this NCR splinter group having essentially infinite men, vertibirds, guns, power, fucking enough tanks to form an armour division and none of the people looking at it ever thought "This is a little farfetched for the post apocalypse". All this time seemingly making it but no one actually going back to actually seeing if it all fucking worked. I mean, side-quests being jank sure, but the main quests? Still though, the scripters deserve some credit for actually being able to piece this derivative, hacky fever dream together, despite my own problems with it trying too hard to be cinematic. Also John is very quickly turning into my favourite mailman, getting ass-blasted by baseballs, wearing a big dumb superhero cape and getting chased down by buggies and zombies while charging through his faction's own minefield.

Apparently most of the development was done independently. Without centralized coordination, the writers kinda did whatever they wanted. By the time they found out what the guy doing the NCR questline was up to, they were a few months from release. This was their attempt to salvage it, apparently it was way worse before.

Came up with this while watching Rimmy’s video; Here’s my version of what the factions could have been like to make them more original/engaging: MARS Legion: a group of the Legion who rather then follow Caesar, instead form a cult around the Roman God of War, led by a group of Prophets to carry out the will of Mars. They specialize in Fire-based weaponry, from flaming melee weapons, flamethrowers and more, they have arrived to the Frontier as they were told through their faith of a weapon that could purge the whole world in fire, the ultimate sacrifice for their God. AVE MARS. RAZE THE WORLD TO ASH AND EMBER. The New Oregon Republic of the Heralds: NORTH, a group of former NCR military operation into the Frontier; known as Operation HERALD, who have split from their main faction after what they felt was lack of support and abuse from higher command. On their own, NORTH has been working with the native people and tribes of the Frontier, laying out checkpoints and establishing a base in the old airport, building a small town known as The Landing. Armed to the teeth and willing to recruit anyone to defend their foothold, if the player is able to save them they’ll find out what Operation HERALD was about, and the terrible weapon in the heart of the city. The Brotherhood Crusaders: mostly kept the same, but more obsessed due to their focus on preserving the various old world religions they have recovered through their journey. Focused heavily on melee, with different members talking about the various misinterpretations of religion based on the scraps of information they’ve found. They come to the Frontier after hearing of a fully intact library being buried under all the snow and ice of the city, the ultimate prize that they would do anything to get to, even if it means using a weapon that could destroy the world. Night Owls (Enclave): One of the Enclave groups formed from the former celebrities of the Old World, located in a somehow still standing tower in the city. With a broadcasting station, they control the radio airwaves filled with propaganda, late night style shows and some tasteful jazz, swing and blues music. They use their “star power” (former fame) to try to control and persuade the Frontier to serve and join them, and to one day spread their group across what remains of America, and beyond. If only they could get their hands on that weapon... That’s what I have so far, as for the other factions, I’ll write about them when I have a little more time, but that’s what I have rn on the top of my head.

I also really worked on the lore of the Night Owls (the alternate Enclave); While the original Enclave saved important American leaders and strengthened itself with military might, the Night Owls were a sect of the Enclave set aside as a back up. Using the Celebrities of the Old World, they had them preserved in cryogenic chambers, while using experimental brainwashing technology to make them the perfect spokespeople for the Enclave cause. However, the brainwashing failed, as 200-30l years later, the Night Owls are thawed out, waking up to an eternal winter, their tower being the tallest and most intact, including its broadcast tower at the top. With no communication from the Enclave, the Night Owls assume the worse, and while pondering their next move, a night show host came up with a brilliant idea. They would start airing their station into the Frontier, promising safety and security to all those who contributed to them in the Stars Tower, and the opportunity to join the Night Owls at the very top (pretty much a pyramid scheme). Every night, at 8:00 pm, The Night Owls radio show would start, hosted by Barry B. Monarch to comment on the goings on in the Frontier, interview various faction supporters and make their own opinions, which were subtle suggestions and orders for what the Night Owls wanted to happen. As the Courier begins doing major quests, the Night Owls would gradually mention and ask others about you, until midway through the game the Night Owls will cordially invite you to the very top of Stars Tower, where you’ll be offered to join the Faction and participate in their storyline, one designed with those who enjoy the story parts of Fallout and/or Charisma Builds.

That would be a reference to when Oliver said how complicated it is to build frontiers, train men and protect the roads. He would make his new "nation", which would have to face the Legion invading (or also the Enclave, in this case, whatever..) and he would learn that sometimes when you are among the top leaders of a Nation, war isn't always avoidable and sacrifices have to be made. But, at this point, it's rewriting the whole stuff..

thats not true, theres numerous uses of petroleum and its derivatives way up until the great war. the red rocket gas stations in fallout 4 were selling petrol up until the bombs dropped, not to mention all the plastics manufactured from it. hell, the boomers are able to restore and fly a ww2 era bomber, so there was obviously still petroleum being refined up until 2077.

I think that the tanks they are using were probably light tanks of the time in 2077. Sherman Jumbos were used in the early fifties. But, they also used a lot of fuel. Something that a splinter group of the NCR would never have anything close to.

The legion's members are tribals that have been subjugated by the will of Caesar, it doesn't make sense why they would suddenly reform the doctrines because it has been ingrained to them ever since they've been part of the Legion. Plus, they were originally a scouting force so I really doubt how they were able to even get the resources and influence necessary to get a foothold in Portland to begin with. (Don't argue with me about Caesar being able to do it, he was an educated follower and he has Joshua Graham to help him. Competent writing right there and you haven't even read half of my previous comment lol. Stop shilling, man. This mod's story is god awful, nothing in it makes sense. Putting a lot of effort into something doesn't make it good. I can bake a single cake for 7 years adding every icing known to man, but that doesn't mean it would taste good.

In a actually well written mod/story, Blackthorn would have been the main antagonist, or one of them, with him so hell bent on proving the NCR wrong and making a name for himself, he becomes the very thing he hated and why he left, but much much worse. But no, he is treated like the hero, even though he throws away so many resources, threatens his men to stay and fight or die, even though he promised them freedom to go home, but instead forces them to a frozen wasteland, fighting a even less important enemy than the legion at hover dam, all while abandoning there service from the NCR, but still keeps the name, basically trapping them as they can't even go home without being caught and branded as deserters, even if they leave without being executed.

When you see the NCR in game they have to rely on pack Brahmins to carry supplies, the almost broken monorail for soldiers and the only vertibirds seem to be for the president or the remnants have one. If they have all this shit it would be scorched earth for the legion. The use of trucks alone makes Caravan companies useless due to them using Brahmin

Excluding their distaste for The Enclave which got a spotlight in Fallout 3 on par with Fallout 2's spotlight. Though that's mostly due to the devs political opinions which is to say the least, what can ruin a story when you purposefully and intentionally incorporate it in a story that has nothing to do with said personal political opinions. To let it influence decisions regarding the story aspect is ridiculous.

'Fuck Caeser I ain't dying' Oh great so they fundamentally misunderstand the Legion too, it's not like in the base game there was an entire quest dedicated to the ONE Legionnaire who didn't kill himself for Ceaser because that was SUCH AN ANOMALY The first thing to fix from a writing perspective after removing all the horny shite and the plagiarized garbage is to replace the Legion with the Crusaders as the antagonist, streamlining their two questlines into one questline that can rival the NCR - and also make the Crusaders not connected to the Brotherhood, that way you can do whatever the fuck you like and call it an original idea rather than just being grossly un-lore friendly EDIT: also just streamline the Enclave and make their part the Crusaders too - if you don't think a faction has any depth, and are unwilling to try and give them any depth, then don't make them the villain.

You know what? 90% of my issues with this mod would be gone if they didn't advertise this as being true to the lore. Like if I were to look at individual segments of this mod then they would be fine on their own. Ghoul Jesus, it would've been a fine standalone hee hee hah hah kind of mod, or hell this would of been a decent wild wasteland encounter. Yet when it's in this mod done in this way it's completely laughable. All of the thinly veiled fetish stuff is too much though, and that alone is enough to ruin this mod.

I'll be honest: I actually somewhat liked the NCR questline up until the space part. It's bad and cheesy, but I like that sort of stuff. Give me more of that, and take out all of the godawful parts from the space battle and beyond, AND all of the fetish shit, and I'd be praising this mod.

I've heard a couple times now that the devs apparently despised F:NV and preferred F3. What a shame, because V had a lot of lessons to teach on how to craft an immersive game world overflowing with options for players to choose. Something I really don't get about this mod is why the Courier is so damn important and highlighted. Something I liked about NV over 3 was how the player character was treated as just another part of the world rather than a godlike self-insert.

I think its because everything in fnv is dependent of the player, like everyone needs your help and only your help in the game. Both the lone wanderer and the courier are pretty much chosen ones in both games, they change both the capital wasteland and the mojave alone, but there are differences with how they are treated in each game. one of a few difference about them is that the wanderer gets reconized by his actions while the courier doesn't receive much recognition. Other difference is who the main characters got involved with(lets take a good karma playthrough for this example). The wanderer took most of his time helping a few settlements, wastelanders or mercs he met on his travels. The courier took his time helping towns, locals, tribes and factions with military hardware, its pretty obvious that new vegas has a much bigger scale compared to fo3. The setting is also a key difference. The mojave is a much more civilized compared to the capital wasteland. the capital wasteland is full of raiders, mercs, supermutants, robots and mutated animals who are all hostile towards any wastelander they meet(85% of the map is hostile). The news about a guy who decided to help everyone in need would spread fast in a place like this. I think the developers of this mod played fallout 3 first, then when they played new vegas they problably got pissed because the courier is not consider a legend in the mojave like the wanderer is in the capital wasteland and decided to change that in the mod

@@octodaddy877 yes but not as much as the lone wanderer. Example: Mister new vegas always mentions what you did during your playthrough but never mentions that it was you who did it. Three dog on the other hand always keeps the capital wasteland updated with what you are doing and tells people to help you in any way they can(surprisingly npcs will start giving you items to help you aloong the way if your karma is good enough). They are both reconized by their actions but the lone wanderer definitivily receives more attention compared to the courier(which is also a bad thing since the lone wanderer is constaly attacked by mercs if his reputation is high) Also i don't know if its a bug or not but theres quite alot of npcs in new vegas who don't reconize or never heard of you in new vegas, even if you have very good karma Sorry for bad english.

@@nikolasferreira3247 Yeah. I remember a conversation I had with a buddy about the differences to how the main character of 1/2/NV compared to 3/4, is your actions matter in the former not you. Where 3/4 you matter everyone knows who you are and what you did. 1 and 2 especially since everyone is aware of what the player did but people involved in the events don’t realized it was the same person who did other stuff. Ex Markus remembers the Chosen One as just some tribal that helped him, but shows no sign he’s aware the chosen one destroyed the Enclave. Even the reference to the chosen one is odd since the NCR wouldn’t know who he is. Characterize it make more sense for the NCR to claim they were the ones to defeat the Enclave. In conclusion 1/2/NV your actions define who you are and the fate of the Mojave. 3/4 You determine the fate of the wasteland For a proper reference to the chosen one it would have gone something like this “Chosen One? What are you some dumb tribal?”.

Ngl, first time I heard of Blackthorn, I thought that he was a cool character, not for the shit that later was revealed to be, but because i thought that the devs wanted to show that, for how much good intended he was, this delusional behaviour that he had to save his men ended up by making them suffer more than they had to, putting him in a darker light and making him a sort of villain of his own. His men wanted to just go home and ask for the NCR mercy? No, that is desertion and they are killed, even if they were deserters since the start, but this shows you did all of this because you care for them and that you are so the good guy. The respurces they have are scarce and having working vehicles is already a miracle? Fuck it, let's waste everything to save someone that is *working* for the people you decided to desert just to show that you are the good guy. People start complaining of his behavior and critique how much troubles he lead them into? He then start to act exactly as Oliver, only telling that he is "the good guy that want to take everyone home". And this idea of his, to take everyone home despite taking them too far away from where they belong, thinking he is acting for the good of his people, it had a great potential per se, if developed better and with additional shades of plot. Immagine, no Legion, no BoS, no scallies and furries, no feet and teens... just the story of some people that want to go home but can't thanks to Blackthorn's own fear of the consequences derivated from this. Would make some of his statements (like him not liking Wolfpack that much since the start and many others I can't really remeber) way more relevant for the whole plot. He really cares for his men as Caesar cares for his Legionaries, and would like to see them all dead rather than admit he was wrong in front of Oliver and the whole of the NCR. Again, because he thinks to be "the good guy that will bring everyone at home". The Frontier could've also been a metaphor of this, not only a far away place, but also the limit of Blackthorn's intentions and blindness, before he condamn everyone to a definitive death. But no, we got instead a teen-scally-furry-feet-deathclaw-plagiarism porn mod

@teh one Elder Scrolls Protagonist. It's a concept in the game, in moments of great turmoil an Avatar of Lorkhan (Shezzar for the Imperials, hence Shezzarine) will manifest at the right place at the right time, usually while imprisoned, and will change the fate of Tamriel. This includes all TES main character except maybe Cyrus from Redguard, and they all start retroactively existing only at the start of each of their games. The Mod is clearly trying to adapt the same concept in Fallout with this whole "when times are though some extraordinary individuals just happen to show up and change history, sounds prophetic and almost preordained to me" but it kind of falls flat against Fallout's main themes and setting. Especially when this mod then up and tries to Spec Ops: The Line you to death during a Dream Sequence (SPOILERS).

...I actually never knew about the Shezzarine stuff before, that's actually kinda interesting, even if it still feels like a copout for a lazy start. The worst part of applying that to the Courier though? He's the WORST of the Fallout protagonists to do this with. He's a nobody, even compared to Lone Wanderer, son of the mighty Vault Dweller. The only thing he's done of note in his life was courier work that just happened to have accidentally caused the Hopeville detonation that caused the Divide. He does do great things in his time of course, which continues to make me wonder why this wasn't quest-gated with that in mind, but even then it takes a second for those that you're Idolized by to notice you. Hell, being Villified makes you noticed far easier, as proven if you finish Ghost Town Gunfight and run into the second place winner of the Nipton Lottery. So again, even if you've done You'll Know it When it Happens, met Ulysses at the Divide, and all those other prerequisites... how will these bums in the Frontier know of this?

Great stuff again guys, really love your humor, and chemistry together. From what I have heard, the NCR main quest line was written and coded, by a single guy, who obviously has no idea how a real military works. And they just watched a bunch of war movies, and played cod and other FPS games. General blackthorn is one of the worst written commanders I have seen in a while.The fact that the NCR just let him and his men go is ludicrous, and his men would have left him as soon as they settled down in the frontier. Also if it helps, there is an arachnophobia.esp patch to remove the spiders in the mod. Its on the official discord, if you lads have not been banned yet lol.

Basically keep the designers (the technical skill of this mod is unparalleled), or better yet give them a raise or a pat on the back because their work with such an outdated engine is shockingly good.
