Something that should be noted in regards to New California: The campfire dude from the "escaping the vault valley" string of "quests" says that the Survivalists killed 10,000 NCR troops (or 10,000 NCR citizens and troops, it's not entirely clear which) before he "got old" and left the Survivalists. Compare that that to New Vegas: -2 soldiers were killed by the automated security in Helios One and they stopped trying to enter the generator building to prevent further loss of life, in fact they were so concerned about losing more soldiers that they hadn't been able, or maybe didn't even bother trying, to retrieve the bodies of the troopers that were killed -The loss of a single supply caravan of 4 soldiers and 2 pack brahmins heading to Camp Forlorn Hope is considered a massive blow to the NCR's efforts -The Fiends are mentioned as having killed as many as a few dozen NCR troopers and a few rangers in the ruins of West Vegas, and it would appear that this has caused a pretty decent depletion of the available troops at Camp McCarren -NCR patrols are being ambushed by either raider or Legion attack parties and have caused enough destruction and killed enough men that Colonel Hsu is willing to give a random Joe free-access to the military headquarters of the NCR in the Mojave so they can try to find where the leak is coming from -And to top it all off, around 100 troopers and rangers are said to have been killed at the first battle of Hoover Dam, and the NCR builds a goddamn 6 ton stone block monument with the name of each fallen soldier engraved into it, and the loss of all of those men clearly weighs heavily on the NCR officers who were serving in the Mojave at the time, General Lee Oliver being among them New Vegas was very clearly trying to say that the NCR's resources, especially their manpower, was incredibly limited and precious. Nearly every dumb-fuck mod "developer" has never recognized this and acts like the NCR has the manpower and material of the US Army and can throw around men and material willy-nilly and not have to worry about replacing it. New Vegas (vanilla) is really fucking good...it's a shame that nothing that came after was even decent.

I did some really rough calculations. Apparently in Fallout 2 the NCR had a population of over 700,000. I'm assuming that after 40 years of population growth and conquests of foreign territory they're at a flat 1 million by New Vegas time. I'm also assuming that they have a similar amount of people in the military as the modern United States, at 0.5% of the population. By those numbers, there would just be 5000 people in the NCR army. Even if I go super generous and assume the NCR's population doubled by the time of New Vegas that's still only 7000.

@@Dreadnautilus Looking at the first battle of Hoover Dam again, if we assume the NCR army at 5000, that is a death rate (which will be lower than the casualty rate) that is a death rate of 2%, or 1.4% if they are at 7000. As a comparison, the US Army has roughly a half million active-duty soldiers that would be the equivalent of the US Army having between 7000 and 1000 soldier killed (again, not counting wounded) in a single battle, which is huge. Gah...math just makes me hate lazy world-building even more.

Regardless if you like or dislike the direction the new God of War took, when it came to development he had a clear goal in mind and steered them to that goal, and it was a massive success. Conversely look at what happened to Anthem and it’s lack of leadership, and the resulting product. A good leader makes or breaks a project, and as we can tell, the leadership of this mod was embarrassing

I actually went back and found the torture area with the chairs. The NPCs interrogating and hammering you just stand there even though they’re also present on another part of the map. They didn’t even try to hide the area, I just walked past some rubble and saw them standing frozen in place.

To be fair, they deserted because their term was legally up, but the military decided to arbitrarily extend it. The deserters they're executing are, presumably, not yet at the end of their agreed-upon term. Also, the NCR exiles are recruiting volunteers, not conscripts. I'm far more concerned about Blackthorne claiming to care about his men when he's willing to throw away dozens of lives and several vertibirds to rescue one mailman he hasn't even met yet.

24:35 Y'know, this whole "badass team of soldiers" thing might have actually worked out if they were *GASP* ENCLAVE REMNANTS! Like say, some Enclave remnants that got involved fighting on your behalf because while they wanted to help restore America, they didn't jive with the genocidal orders of their superiors and they left the Enclave decades ago, only to help you after they realized that the war was encroaching on their turf. You go off and help a village full of old folks that's at the shadow of a mountain (inside the mountain is a small Enclave bunker stocked with Vertibirds, energy weapons, and power armor) and you befriend them without knowing they're Enclave guys. You get captured by the Legion and crucified, and all of a sudden, some Vertibirds appear and power-armored Enclave troopers pop out of the Vertibirds to rescue your crucified ass. They massacre the enemy, get you down from the cross, and treat your wounds as you wake up back in the village, and they explain who they are. You then get Enclave weapons and power armor, and the village becomes a place for you to rest and trade if you need help.

Not that anyone is going to see this, but that ugly smg shown at 2:20 was actually stolen from me. It was originally supposed to be a Magpul FMG 9, I created it as part of a mod “Travis’ Weapons Pack’ or some shit back in the day. Someone had messaged me about my involvement with the frontier when it was in early development, specifically citing this gun, stating they saw it in some of their promotional images. I had no involvement and was not asked permission or given credit, they simply shifted the desert camo to a blue colour and called it theirs. I had reached out to the developers insisting they remove it as they did not have my permission to use it in the mod. I never followed up and had completely forgotten until now. Frustrating but not surprising

The Forgotten City mod for Skyrim shows you just how important strong writing is. It doesn't have any crazy new features and all that, but it still engages you with it's air of mystery and suspicion. This mod rips so many thinks from so many different stories, it's insane. They ripped the "press F" thing from Advanced Warfare, the Zakhaev freeway scene from Modern Warfare, the Husks from Mass Effect, General Deathshead and the murder choice thing from Wolfenstein: New Order, the fucking trek through Hell from Doom, like for fuck's sake. It's one thing to do a homage. But when you start jamming in this many set pieces and ideas obviously ripped from one setting or another, it becomes less a story and more akin to a child having play adventures for his toys. Have some goddamn creativity. It's such a shame because when I first saw the pitch for Frontier, I was really impressed by it. The idea of playing as an NCR force, separated and exiled from the main NCR, held together by the grit and determination of its charismatic General, facing familiar and unfamiliar horrors in a completely alien landscape seemed badass to me.

I wanted to mention simple gameplay stuff that they use to break your balls in that bridge sequence alone: - They highly recommend the courier to be at least lvl 20 for the mod meaning he had tons of options to, heal the soldiers, carry them back, fight back or escape captivity. - Courier could have Stonewall perk, which you get at lvl8, and the explosion wouldn't knock him. Same goes for that last kick. - The mines are armed with a twist and a throw, a kid could arm them in three seconds. The mission can be done during the day too, which is just an esxcuse to have better lighting for the npcs. - If you decide to rush the building that is clearly a sniper nest, the mod blows your head like if you were wearing a legion collar. There are no npcs present too so you can't pretend you could put up a fight. - The vertibird that had just passed could've been used for support or an emergency evac, it was supressing fire holding NCR down not necessarilly explosive ordinance. If they guns 'blazing to rescue the courier later, the vertibird crew would've accepted a risky order to stop him from being captured in the first place. - The main chain of legion command was present for an ambush, not only that, they saw the vertibird and decided to approach an exposed spot on the bridge just to rub it in your face. Plus the fact the high-ranking soldiers are easy targets because they use the red feathers that don't blend well in the snow, unlike their low ranking soldiers who dress in a more subtle and smart way. - They give people Pip-Boys so there's no reason some of the soldiers, including The Courier, couldn't have used V.A.T.S. to sweep the area. - They purposely block the entrance to the outpost house and give you no means of investigating the empty NCR outpost for signs of a trap. - The crucifiction is made in a way that if you take the person out of the cross they die. So it's game over right there because the Courier was tortured for hours and made to climb about 8 rows of stairs while being shocked in the ass before the crucifiction. No rescuing there if after all of that you wanted to play the courier as being beatable.

I think in terms of writing, it can be pretty on par with HDTF, but it's overall a tad better in most areas. That and while there are some technical issues here and there, it's a function mod which, most importantly, isn't being sold as a finished product, just a free modding project. That and at points it is pretty impressive technically, even though it can start to develop Modder's Flex Syndrome at points.

As a Jackmormon, I'm rolling my eyes at one of the key things about the church that the game gets wrong: They don't idolize the cross. You'll never see it on any Mormon church or in any art, because Mormons don't view it as a holy symbol.

No army, EVER, would paint their uniform as 'feel-good crap', especially a RECRUITER. They are deserters, but they still hold their old name, so having a uniform be relegated to just a throwaway comment is insulting to a group still considering themselves to be an armed force. As a smaller group then their origin, the uniform would mean more. Unity, order, and belonging are not just 'feel-good crap'; they are part of the duty and honor of being in an armed force. With Gray as a character being the guy who is unabashedly loyal and strong to the cause especially for deserters, this would be something he would support and encourage rather then just have as a throwaway comment. And, about the Frontier's NCR design compared to the Mojave NCR? No two armors are similar for the Exiles and the top brass all wears 'unique' not-uniform gear, while the Mojave's at LEAST share silhouettes and their named brass all wear the same available gear. It paints the Exiles as a dissonant group, brass at each others' throats and nobody agrees or cares enough to present a unified group identity. No wonder the Legion and other groups see them as shams. It is infuriating, and I've seen like no discussion on it, and I just finally needed to let it out.

The animation osmo used when getting his limbs cut off is actually from the base game the NCR soldiers between Nelson and camp forlorn hope that are missing their limbs use that animation. Of course you'll never see the soldiers unless you have the base game without any patches or are using a mod that restores them because obsidian removed them in a patch because they caused stability issues with dead money on consoles.

The crusaders were shit too wdyem?! The new cananites were already mormons and were done flawlessly. They merely made them mormons (they also botched what a mormon is btw as a woman wouldn't be leading in that type of society) because they realized that they were ripping off Christianity's knight's templar. Then they tweaked it to be only rip off mormonism and add a king arthur but female twist to make it "different" by small technicalities. The whole zealous knight routine again like new canans Mormonism was done flawlessly by the brotherhood of steel itself. The crusaders are the biggest unoriginal rip off faction in this mod. Even the ncr has a warlord/jamesbond thing going. Is all I'm going to say. And i hate their questline with a passion.

Closest NCR gets to this is "help me snipe those crucified troops at Nelson" and even then it's just because it's a Legion territory, and they already on a cross, AND even then game gives you option to clear out Nelson and save them. Some could also mention Morales corpse situation, but dude is already dead, and you can make a good deed by bringing his body to safety.

Here they have 20, and they squander almost all of them... to rescue a dude they met yesterday. Hell, they have even less reason to view the Courier as a valuable asset because they broke from the NCR before the NCR-Legion war even started.

The conflict that sets this story in motion, heavily relies on something that didn't happen during Operation: Sunburst. That being: A lot of NCR troops dying for Helios One. Nowhere in New Vegas' story, is it mentioned, to the player, that the NCR suffered major casualties, while fighting the Brotherhood of Steel. It was the Brotherhood being slaughtered, during the battle, not the NCR. The writers are literally make up things up.

I’ve been thinking of how to fix this mod, and I think it would’ve made more sense if the conflict was the Bitter Springs incident. Even though the Khans weren’t perfect, the slaughter of innocents by orders of higher-up’s was inhumane and it’s the focus of Boone’s growth. Having it as the Bitter Springs incident being the breaking point for the exiles would have their motivations be more focused on the issues of bureaucracy and Corruption, the ACTUAL main problem of the NCR in Vegas.

@@Paag603 We know what the NCR considers heavy casualties; 109 deaths at the First Battle of Hoover Dam, which put a serious dampener on victory celebrations. Operation Sunburst is never mentioned as anything less than a crushing NCR victory, without anything even approaching the amount of deaths suffered at Hoover Dam. The Brotherhood were in a tactically poor position (In the middle of a valley surrounded by hills and cliff-sides), they lacked effective battlefield leadership, given they ended up relying on McNamara, a regular Paladin, to lead them out instead of Hardin, and Elijah was being useless, and given Oliver's dialogue if your bluff about the Brotherhood fails in an Independent run, the NCR can issue Armour-Piercing rounds like candy when they need to. Human waves is never a tactic legitimately used in war outside of the worst battlefields of the First World War, especially by a victorious party. Even Russia, the country famous for it, didn't use human waves to win World War 2 (It's actually a common misconception of their Deep Battle doctrine, which is a hell of a lot more complicated and far too unwieldy to explain here). While the NCR did badly outnumber the Brotherhood, intelligent tactics, good positioning, and a fuckton of Armour-Piercing rounds also contributed to the defeat of the Brotherhood.
