We just did this on our motorcycle's. Things to remember. Virginia is still closed because of covid. You can't eat inside any restaurants. They're no gas stations on the parkway. Pack a lunch. The north Carolina section is by far the best. Stop at little Switzerland, then right up the road ten minutes is the apple orchard. The best views are in NC. hope this helps

@@AmericasParks I get it. We are about 2 years away from the vagabond lifestyle. I've been lucky to have a wife who is willing to rough it a little. I'm getting to old and creaky to tent it anymore. I've been blessed with visiting many incredible places, Tetons, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Cascade's, Boundary waters in Minn, just to name a few. We were thinking about one of those class "B" oversized vans that are nimble and can easily accommodate us. Head, Queen bed and small appliances for quick meals. As long as I can get a hitch setup to haul my BMW R1200 Bike, I'm good to go. Once a week we hit a hotel for a day or two.

We are attempting to do our BRP trip over 7 days/ 6 nights and I'd love to drive the whole parkway if possible. We just missed crossing paths. We were doing parts of the North Carolina section October 16-18. You were smart to go during the week. It was an absolute madhouse that weekend. We have done most of the highlights in previous trips so we focused on lesser known hikes and avoided the crowds...somewhat. The BRP is one of my favorite NPS sites and one we frequent several times a year. I haven’t completed the entire parkway yet, only have from Roanoke to Fancy Gap left. As for the video, great job again. Nice overview of your key stops, which were great choices by the way, and the fall colors came through vividly. Your timing was excellent for peak fall colors. It can be so hit or miss. If you do a return trip to area a few suggestions. Sharp Top and Grandfather Mountain are indeed worthwhile hikes, highly recommended. The main hike for Grandfather Mountain is through the state park but it is $20 per person. The trail (GF Trail to Calloway Peak) is fun and challenging with ladders, cables, and scrambling, nothing too precarious though. You can also get to Calloway Peak on GF Mountain, for free, via the Profile Trail on the north side of the mountain. At Linville Falls you can hike down to base of the falls via the Plunge Basin Trail, highly recommended as well. Around Linville Falls is the Linville Gorge Wilderness. There are some great hikes here which are Table Rock Mountain, Hawksbill Mountain, and the Chimneys. Some final recommendations along the BRP are Craggy Pinnacle, Craggy Gardens, Mt. Mitchell, Black Balsam Knob area, Beacon Heights, and Skinny Dip Falls. Also, there is a small plane crash site near Waterrock Knob that you can reach. If I didn’t already say it, great video and looking forward to the individual videos.

Her family came in the 1820s to the Balsams where I would find her in 1960. She was from the Cowee Mtn area. Her grandmother taught in a one room school in Little Canada, NC. A first glance and our lives were joined until 2021 when I had to lay her to her rest up in the Balsams, the Great Smokies, really high up. The roof of the East Coast. Miss her something fierce. That's some trip Randy and got to say 28 degrees is way to hot for me. Some stunning Autumn (Fall) colours and the lodge, on the lake at the Peaks of Otter was superb, what a stop off place. Colour in the sky was pretty special as well, that blew my mind at 11:30, what a way to end the day. I loved the view from Rough Ridge, the colours in the trees was amazing, as were the Falls at Linville. Perfect start to day no.4 with the cloud inversion over the forest. Spoilt for choice with the food in Little Switzerland and just loved the Falls there and a good place to call it a day at the 'spooky graveyard' Epic trip but sorry Randy, I think Julie is only the second greatest wife in the world, as Mrs Metalman holds the No.1 spot 😛. Thank you! Good question - just added the dates to the description. We were there October 19-22, 2020. Thankfully, we hit peak colors, but I understand it changes each year due to rainfall, temps, etc. There should be some prediction charts on the Internet. Also, the area covers a large degree of altitude changes, so it's impossible to get full colors at every location. Enjoy!

Randy AND Julie, thanks again for taking us along on a great adventure. This is a great video--super scenes, excellent soundtrack, and cool editing. My first experience on the BRP was as a child with my mother, my sister, and both grandmothers shortly after the death of my father. These great ladies did not want us to miss seeing the world. My next experiences came while serving as a Naval Officer based in Norfolk, VA. Whenever we were in port and I did not have duty, I looked for weekend trips and the Parkway became a staple as I could reach it fairly easily. Sometimes I chose a north-south route and other times I reversed it. (Hey and speaking of the Navy I loved the capture of the fighter flyover). My latest experiences have come with my own family. We particularly enjoyed a trip from the Skyline Drive through the Parkway and on into the Smokies. After each of our trips over the past 26 years of marriage we have selected a picture for an 8X10 to go on our wall [I think I may have mentioned that before]. One of our best shots is at Mabry Mill. My wife's brother and his wife live on the NC coast which means we can sometimes fit a trip on part of the Parkway in as we travel to or return from their place to Indiana. So as you can guess it is a place of great memories for us. Thanks for making me smile today! God bless you and yours.
