as a vietnamese born american i never appreciated the traditional basket 'til i got older and recognized the craftmanship. the vietnamese still have a bamboo steamed fish basket that used once and throw away after one use. unfortunately the vietnamese dont view bamboo/coconut products as high value like westerners.

Bir şey çok olursa kıymet bilinmiyor ne yazık ki. Benim ülkemde (Türkiye) bambu çok değerli çünkü yetişmiyor. Bizde Mısır yaprağından sazlıktan sepet yapılıyor.

Very interesting. But what is being done with the bamboo strips is weaving, not knitting. Different word and a very different technique.

元々草鞋を編む、竹籠を編むといった技術は、農村生活者なら誰でもできた事だった。 外国からより安く、便利で丈夫なものが輸入されれば淘汰されるのが自然。 家内性手工業が滅びるのは開国した時点で決まっていた。 だから技術は滅びるのに任せて、ビデオアーカイブとして保存しておくのが適切なのかも知れない。

Bamboos are not poisonous. It is to prevent particles entering the lung. Even bakers often get baker's lung working with no respiratory protection over time.
