I need to go back and do the approach trail. At the time I didn't want to spend a day that didn't count. It took 10 years for me to finally make it there , and I was ready to start clicking off miles.

Hi. If you do this over time in sections, how do you get back to your starting point? Just back track or is there a " service" to get you back to your vehicle?

I just hiked from the Springer Mountain trail head to Amicalola Park this past weekend 2/24/24 it was 11-1/2 miles you guys really need to stop saying 8-1/2 miles that's not even close to the actual milage. It might be 8-1/2 to the bottom of Springer Mountain but it is certainly not to the first white blaze.

Hiking the Approach Trail is a Waste of time if you have already Hiked it before. I’ve Hiked it Twice and when I start my 2025 Thru-Hike I will Not be Hiking the Approach Trail. I tell all my friends it’s a Waste of time because it has Nothing to do with the AT. You might disagree, but it’s True. Nothing at all to do with the AT. I say Start at Springer Mountain where the AT starts and you’ll be happy and from there on your pounding the miles to Katahdin!! I’ve seen a lot of people get hurt doing the Approach Trail and come back the next year and not do it and complete their AT Thru-Hike! So I say? Don’t Do the Approach Trail!!! Waste of Time and Energy and it doesn’t mean a thing to the AT Thru-Hike!!! Happy Trails!!!

I was going through my subscriptions and saw you there on my list. I haven't seen you since your big hike in 21. It was nice to hear your voice and see some clips of the area. Someday i would like to attempt a long hike. Still working. Not sure if i will be able to retire in time to attempt a hike of that magnitude. Still dreaming but spend most of my free time hiking in Missouri and summer trips out west. Good to see you, you look great. Keep that cheerful smile going, it helps pull people through

Not entirely true. Much of the Approach Trail was originally built as part of the Appalachian Trail, before the southern terminus was relocated from Mount Oglethorpe to Springer Mountain.
