I love Kevin Costner's appreciation for John Ford's classic westerns, and Clint's Unforgiven. Kevin's own film, Open Range, is probably his best western too. To those that haven't seen it, I recommend it very much.
@brucekuehn40318 күн бұрын
I streamed it and enjoyed many of the sequences, but didn’t feel it as a whole film. This is probably because it is really just 3 hours of a much longer piece. I hesitate to mention Star Wars (which is really a Western anyway), but at least there were whole films that fit into a larger saga. Good characters, beautiful settings, grand music, but Horizon didn’t stretch out, it was just a peak of it.

How is it underrated? It's highly rated, got good reviews from critics' and watchers alike and won several awards. The word "underrated" has been butchered by people that don't use it properly.
@sash9249Күн бұрын
@@Dreadpirateflappy Most western fans wouldn't rate it highly in the pantheon of great westerns. They would underrate it. That's what underrated means. Hope that makes sense for ya dude. . Let me know if you need smaller words, or a diagram.

One of my favorite westerns and one of my favorite movies too is the gunfighter with gregory peck, it's on criterion now, with a digitally remastered blu ray release. The gunfighter is a fantastic film about a man played by gregory peck who is a gunfighter, who has gotten into gunfights, and wherever he goes some young gunfighter always wants to take him on. The ox bow incident is another film that is a terrific western that is fairly dark for it's time, and it involves mob justice.

Love that he singled out the writing for Unforgiven. The script - which i think was penned in the 70's - was sitting in development hell for years before Eastwood bought the rights and the scriptwriter got emotional in an early screening as barely a word of his original script had been changed.
