This is Mike. This rig has an incredible story. This camper has been well loved and well taken care of. So many more adventures to come!
It is so beautiful to talk to long time owners about all the adventures they have enjoyed in their FWC. Thanks for sharing just a little of your story Mike! We wish you many more happy adventures! ✌️
Mike Darlington, from Flagstaff, AZ has quite a truck camper love story to tell. Over the years, Mike has owned numerous “older” Four Wheel Campers. After a five year search, in April, 2020 Mike discovered and bought an extremely rare 1978 Chevy Blazer and a matching 1980’s vintage Four Wheel Camper. Mike promptly became only the second owner of this rig. As Mike described his new purchase, “there are plenty of things that could be improved but it has a ton of character”.
So, as Mike began refurbishing the Blazer and camper, cleaning and updating the electrical and plumbing systems, he also began dating Sarah. In fact, their first date was in the “work in progress” truck camper! But, after a couple months of bringing the truck camper back to life, Mike regrettably had to sell it for a house down payment. Though “heartbroken” about parting with such a unique truck camper, he was falling in love with Sarah!
Fast forward 22 months to February 11, 2022. Out of the blue, Mike gets a message that the Blazer and camper are for sale, at of all places, a small used car lot in Ohio. The person who left a message had never seen such a truck camper before, and in searching on the internet, found a blog story about
Mike restoring the very rig sitting before them on the lot. The truck camper discoverers actually registered to the blog, enabling them to message Mike to ask questions. Mike’s “mind was blown”! However, they were strongly considering buying the rig. But, amazingly, they ultimately decided Mike and the rig should have the opportunity to be reunited.
Mike bought the truck camper, and incredibly, it made it back to Arizona two days before Sarah and Mike were married! So, the rig that was their first date chariot also swept them away on their wedding day!
Mike sums up the events and emotions well….”Words cannot express my excitement to have this truck back and to finish what I started, as well as use it the way it was originally intended. Fate is the only thing that comes to mind. I was meant to have it back. It will stay in the family forever to be used hard and lovingly cared for as long as I’m able.”
