Some people need to hear something many times to be convinced that they really do need to maintain their vehicle to keep it running well and remain reliable. I have a 120 2007 model that has just clocked 555000 km. It has had regular oil and filter changes at 10000km. 2 sets of injectors and is due its third set. It is used on a regular country delivery runs and is driven sensibly. It has had coolant changes and other bits as required. Just listen to what Anthony says and take notice of his advice if you want your Prado to keep going. I am aiming at a million kms for this vehicle.

IIn Australia , just in General , 10w - 40 is the Oil grade you want to use . IT'S a HOT PLACE . Forget what the Water Temp gauge says , that's only HALF the story................... So yeah , I agree with you .

I recently bough a Prado running rough. watch your vids and worked out its a cracked piston. 280ks. motor never opened. anyway me and a mate decided to rebuild it. big job in a back yard. anyway we honed and replaced pistons etc but left crank in place. new injector and recon head. finally it all came together and.... it runs nice. moral of the story, its a big expensive job so everyone i see i tell get your injectors duty cyl tested. Also it is a nicely designed motor built to perform and last.

Can you please give us your opinion on diesel additives, especially the one's that "clean" the fuel system etc. Not saying it must replace the required maintenance, but is it worth it using it to make systems last even longer?

I just swapped out my injectors at 244000. Got them checked when pulled out...Still had alot of life in them. I service oil every 5000 filters every 10000 and have a Catch can, Extra Fuel filter

They didn’t have any good life left in them that finished about 64,000 km ago They might have 1,000,000 kg in them Just blowing smoke and running badly if the engine last that long due to wrong combustion caused by them

Poor piston design is the main issue regardless of new injectors. Mine was bone stock when it went didn't miss a service. Thats why the manufacturer comes to party with rebuilding.

Great video, like you say these engines are worth minding newer 2.4 & 2.8 not a patch on them. Btw what grade oil would you use on a 300k km engine instead of 5w 30, i'm in Ireland temps range mostly from 5* to 25* when it does shine!! Bit off topic have you had any problems with front brake discs warping after low kms (10k) new calipers fitted, have oem ones got to go again.

2.2L 2010 Avensis 2AD-FHV engine here. Bought it 3rd hand with 375.000 Km. Injectors where original and clogged. One was stuck to engine and was difficult to remove. Bought cheaper certified rebuilt injectors with 0 BL. Mind you these are Denso piezo's costing 500 eur each new. Rebuilt injectors cost me half. I know it's a gamble but it's what it is... They were replaced by mechanic and code inserted by Bosch service (some mechanic's just don't know how to program ECU's...). Performance was incomparable. So much better. Only after, I knew there's something called "pilot learn". Got Autocom installed because trip to Bosch is expensive and I did it myself. Difference is like night and day. Pedal is so much more precise, the car even more responsive and mpg went all the way up. The ECU is capable of performing self pilot learning while driving but it's sooo much better and precise if you use software like Autocom o DS to perform such task. I quick question. Friends both had 2.8 engines. One 2012 and one 2009. The 2012 only had 86K on it. Filled up at the same servo outback Qld. Both cracked pistons within 50km of each other. After lots of back and forth and 2 fuel tests by Caterpillar came back as Z rated dirty fuel. Blocked injectors cracked piston. 2009 one written off. 2012 one new long motor at a cost to insurance company of over $26k.

Hi Anthony, i use my pyro to give me an idea if how my exhaust gas temp is going and change my driving if the temp creeps up. I like to keep it cool and not over work it unnecessarily. I have a 1kzte engine. Not your preferred engine i know but have had it since new and have 235K kms on the clock. Its a great car. Love your work.

I had my 2014 150 series remap by just autos had 270k on it when sold in 2024 never done injectors towed a van just did regular maintenance and just use crd fuel enhancer Have got the fam on it with there Toyotas 4 cylinder and 8 cylinder they all have better fuel economy and quieter injectors noise

Yes definitely. If they are original injectors they are 15 yrs old.

Correct they don’t crack pistons. They have their own separate set of issues as demonstrated in the videos with those failed engines.

What's the towing capacity for these engines? I beleive its 2500kg? Would i be right to think that? It seems to look like.... they just don't handle doing any hard work unless its always in optimal conditions. Would this be right, Anthony? 😂 I value your content as it's very informative. I own a 2014 Hilux that is tuned to round 250hp and 700nm with brand new genuine +30 injectors. I'll let you know if and when the engine packs it in as its sitting on 165,000 km as we speak. #buddabing 👍🏻

@carsella11 I'd agree. Especially with the fact that the vehicles are sold with a "fit for purpose" towing capacity or GCM to keep this conversation "airtight." The product that's being sold isn't in fact "fit for purpose" then there should be a class action filled against Toyota for the millions of dollars spent in aftermarket genuine engine manufacturing to fix the epidemic of cracked pistons. In my opinion. 👍🏻

Whilst tyre size does make a difference, all terrains don't have the weight or drag as mud terrains. With sympathetic driving in start stop conditions, all terrains a size or two up would have marginal difference. Point being sympathetic

Another prado Toyota professional on utube says the cylinder head cracks, dont blame the injectors as they are trying to overcome the crack/hole by injecting more fuel.

In the interest of not being negative or bugging out somebody else while I’m gonna say is please do not share that fool’s videos here You will need to choose who you listen to. I suggest the Toyota documents which I have shown for many years, confirming the details of injectors, causing wrong combustion, and the upgrade pretty clear that the injectors were a major contributor. We pretty much have that sorted for most part except for the people that didn’t get the maintenance program . The biggest cause is remaps chips and tunes, but believe whoever you want.
